Natural measures and statistical properties of non-statistical maps with multiple neutral fixed points

In this article we show that a large class of infinite measure preserving dynamical systems that do not admit physical measures nevertheless exhibit strong statistical properties. In particular, we give sufficient conditions for existence of a distinguished natural measure $\nu$ such that the pushforwards of any absolutely continuous probability measure converge to $\nu$. Moreover, we obtain a distributional limit law for empirical measures. We also extend existing results on the characterisation of the set of almost sure limit points for empirical measures. Our results apply to various intermittent maps with multiple neutral fixed points preserving an infinite $\sigma$-finite absolutely continuous measure.

Non-statistical behavior via Statistical instability: Non-statistical Anosov-Katok diffeomorphisms

\textit{Non-statistical dynamics} are those for which a set of points with positive measure (w.r.t. a reference probability measure which is in most examples the Lebesgue on a manifold) do not have a convergent sequence of empirical measures. In this paper, we show that behind the existence of non-statistical dynamics, there is some other dynamical property: \textit{statistical instability}. To this aim, we present a general formalization of the notions of statistical stability and instability and introduce sufficient conditions on a subset of dynamical systems to contain non-statistical maps in terms of statistical instability. We follow this idea and introduce a new class of non-statistical maps in the space of Anasov-Katok diffeomorphisms of the annulus.

Non-statistical rational maps

We show that in the family of degree $d\geq 2$ rational maps of the Riemann sphere, the closure of strictly postcritically finite maps contains a (relatively) Baire generic subset of maps displaying maximal non-statistical behavior: for a map $f$ in this generic subset, the set of accumulation points of the sequence of empirical measures of almost every point in the phase space is the largest possible one that is, the set of all $f$-invariant measures. The proofs is based on a transversality argument which allows us to control the behavior of the orbits of critical points for maps close to strictly postcritically finite rational maps and also a new concept developed in the author's PhD thesis, that we call statistical bifurcation.
