Improving the efficiency of a Hyperpower method for approximating inverse matrices

In this manuscript, scalar norm-type accelerators are used for first time in order to increase the order of convergence of known iterative methods for solving the matrix equation $X^{-1}-A=0$, while decreasing the number of matrix-matrix products. Specifically, our proposed scheme upgrades the order of convergence in a $50\%$, achieving the sixth-order of convergence with the computational cost of fourth-order Hyperpower method, in terms of matrix-matrix multiplications. In the main results, not only the convergence and its order is proven, but also its efficiency and stability. This new technique provides good numerical results, even compared with existing fourth-, sixth- and eighth-order schemes in large matrices of up to $10^6$ entries, but also promises the opening of a new kind of procedures with good performance and scalability. Finally, an application to digital image restoration is made to show the behavior of the method, compared with existing ones.

A plausible Parametrization of Modal Basis for Dynamical Systems Analysis

In the field of solid dynamics, knowing the corresponding modal basis of the system is capital, in order to improve design with respect to a desired dynamical behavior, such as avoiding natural frequencies at specific values or designing mechanical systems that can account for desired frequency spectrum. However, the determination of the modal basis involve the resolution of an eigenvalue problem, which can be expensive to perform for large systems, especially when dealing with a optimization of a parametric system design. In the present work, we propose to determine the parametrization of modal basis by considering an advanced Deep Learning technique based on the Rank Reduction AutoEncoder (RRAE). The RRAE is based on an autoencoder whose latent space is constrained through a truncated Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) approximation. This formulation enables the latent space to capture the dominant features of the data efficiently. As a result, the autoencoder is guided toward learning the underlying physical behavior represented across the dataset, mitigating overfitting and spurious predictions. The main idea consists of identifying a reduced parameter space using the RRAE for the first eigenvector, while the remaining modes are subsequently reconstructed through neural networks that take the same reduced parameter space as input, thereby coupling all modes in a nonlinear parametric framework. The proposed architecture is validated through the parametrization of the modal basis in 1D and 2D problems.

Introducing memory to a family of multi-step multidimensional iterative methods with weight function

In this paper, we construct a derivative-free multi-step iterative scheme based on Steffensen's method. To avoid excessively increasing the number of functional evaluations and, at the same time, to increase the order of convergence, we freeze the divided differences used from the second step and use a weight function on already evaluated operators. Therefore, we define a family of multi-step methods with convergence order 2m, where m is the number of steps, free of derivatives, with several parameters and with dynamic behaviour, in some cases, similar to Steffensen's method. In addition, we study how to increase the convergence order of the defined family by introducing memory in two different ways: using the usual divided differences and the Kurchatov divided differences. We perform some numerical experiments to see the behaviour of the proposed family and suggest different weight functions to visualize with dynamical planes in some cases the dynamical behaviour.

A fractional Traub method with $(2α+1)$th-order of convergence and its stability

Some fractional Newton methods have been proposed in order to find roots of nonlinear equations using fractional derivatives. In this paper we introduce a fractional Newton method with order $α+1$ and compare with another fractional Newton method with order $2α$. We also introduce a fractional Traub method with order $2α+1$ and compare with its first step (fractional Newton method with order $α+1$). Some tests and analysis of the dependence on the initial estimations are made for each case.

Drawing dynamical and parameter planes of iterative families and methods

In this paper the complex dynamical analysis of the parametric fourth-order Kim's iterative family is made on quadratic polynomials, showing the Matlab codes generated to draw the fractal images necessary to complete the study. The parameter spaces associated to the free critical points have been analyzed, showing the stable (and unstable) regions where the selection of the parameter will provide us excellent schemes (or dreadful ones).
