Multiplicity of surface polariton configurations in bi-isotropic media with anomalous Hall current

In this work, we investigate surface polaritons (SPs) arising at the interface between a simple dielectric and a bi-isotropic medium, in the lossless regime and in the presence of small losses. For the former, non-Dyakonov surface polaritons can arise for positive permittivities and magnetoelectric parameters. General restrictions on the permittivities and bi-isotropic parameter (existence conditions) are derived. For the latter, the effect of small losses is considered, and the characteristic surface plasmon-polariton lengths are discussed. The propagation length can exhibit a local maximum for specific values of the magnetoelectric parameter, an unusual new behavior that can be regarded as a signature of these chiral surface polaritons. Surface waves in an interface involving a bi- isotropic medium with an anomalous Hall effect (AHE) are also examined. Multiple configurations for their occurrence are obtained, revealing a richer scenario with distinct regimes of propagation and coexistence in the parameter space. The presence of a non-null AHE contribution creates a magnetoelectric range for which the surface wave propagation is forbidden, providing an additional signature of surface-polariton propagation in bi-isotropic media with an AHE contribution.

Double rotatory power reversal, continuous Kerr angle, and enhanced reflectance in bi-isotropic media with anomalous Hall current

We investigate the optical properties of bi-isotropic materials under the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) of axion electrodynamics. Four refractive indices associated with circularly polarized waves are achieved, implying circular birefringence with rotatory power endowed with double sign reversal, an exotic optical signature for chiral dielectrics. The Kerr rotation and ellipticity are analyzed, with an unusual observation of a giant rotation angle deprived of discontinuity. Anomalous enhanced reflectance (R greater than unity) is also reported, associated with negative refraction stemming from the anomalous transport properties. These effects constitute the singular optical signature of a nonequilibrium bi-isotropic medium with the AHE.

Anomalous increasing super reflectance in chiral matter

Magnetic and anomalous Hall conductivities induce anomalous transport features and novel optical phenomena in chiral systems. Here, we investigate reflection properties on the surface of a medium ruled by axion electrodynamics, which effectively describes optical aspects of Weyl semimetals. We show that these chiral media can manifest anomalous reflectance (R greater than unity) for some frequency windows, depending on the signs of the two involved conductivities. Such a reflectance can increase with the frequency, being always greater than 1 in certain frequency bands. We also examine the complex Kerr angles at normal incidence on the chiral medium. Giant Kerr angle is observed within the absorption window, while the Kerr ellipticity may be used to determine the relative sign of the magnetic conductivity.
