Corrigendum to: Elliptic Boundary Value Problems with Fractional Regularity Data: The First Order Approach

The preliminary material of the monograph (arXiv:1607.03852) written by the first two authors contains two major imprecisions that necessitates a number of (in the end harmless) changes throughout the entire text. One is about identification of abstract and concrete Hardy spaces for perturbed Dirac operators, the other one about interpolation of quasi-Banach function spaces. Since these erroneous statements are not unlikely to spread, we provide a detailed corrigendum, including further background and corrected statements for all affected results. All other results remain unchanged.

Variational Carleson operators in UMD spaces

We prove $L^p$-boundedness of variational Carleson operators for functions valued in intermediate UMD spaces. This provides quantitative information on the rate of convergence of partial Fourier integrals of vector-valued functions. Our proof relies on bounds on wave packet embeddings into outer Lebesgue spaces on the time-frequency-scale space $\mathbb{R}^3_+$, which are the focus of this paper.

On the dual of variable Lebesgue spaces with unbounded exponent

We study the dual space of the variable Lebesgue space $\Lp$ with unbounded exponent function $\pp$ and provide an answer to a question posed in~[fiorenza-cruzuribe2013]. Our approach is to decompose the dual into a topological direct sum of Banach spaces. The first component corresponds to the dual in the bounded exponent case, and the second is, intuitively, the dual of functions that live where the exponent is unbounded (in a heuristic sense). The second space is extremely complicated, and we illustrate this with a series of examples. In the special case of the variable sequence space $\ell^\pp$, we show that this piece can be further decomposed into two spaces, one of which can be characterized in terms of a generalization of finitely additive measures. As part of our work, we also considered the question of dense subsets in $\Lp$ for unbounded exponents. We constructed two examples, one for general variable Lebesgue spaces $\Lp$ and one in the sequence space $\lp$. This gives an answer to another question from~[fiorenza-cruzuribe2013].

The bilinear Hilbert transform in UMD spaces

We prove $L^p$-bounds for the bilinear Hilbert transform acting on functions valued in intermediate UMD spaces. Such bounds were previously unknown for UMD spaces that are not Banach lattices. Our proof relies on bounds on embeddings from Bochner spaces $L^p(\mathbb{R};X)$ into outer Lebesgue spaces on the time-frequency-scale space $\mathbb{R}^3_+$.

Banach-valued modulation invariant Carleson embeddings and outer-$L^p$ spaces: the Walsh case

We prove modulation invariant embedding bounds from Bochner spaces $L^p(\mathbb{W};X)$ on the Walsh group to outer-$L^p$ spaces on the Walsh extended phase plane. The Banach space $X$ is assumed to be UMD and sufficiently close to a Hilbert space in an interpolative sense. Our embedding bounds imply $L^p$ bounds and sparse domination for the Banach-valued tritile operator, a discrete model of the Banach-valued bilinear Hilbert transform.

A dichotomy concerning uniform boundedness of Riesz transforms on Riemannian manifolds

Given a sequence of complete Riemannian manifolds $(M_n)$ of the same dimension, we construct a complete Riemannian manifold $M$ such that for all $p \in (1,\infty)$ the $L^p$-norm of the Riesz transform on $M$ dominates the $L^p$-norm of the Riesz transform on $M_n$ for all $n$. Thus we establish the following dichotomy: given $p$ and $d$, either there is a uniform $L^p$ bound on the Riesz transform over all complete $d$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds, or there exists a complete Riemannian manifold with Riesz transform unbounded on $L^p$.

Fourier multipliers in Banach function spaces with UMD concavifications

We prove various extensions of the Coifman-Rubio de Francia-Semmes multiplier theorem to operator-valued multipliers on Banach function spaces. Our results involve a new boundedness condition on sets of operators which we call $\ell^{r}(\ell^{s})$-boundedness, which implies $\mathcal{R}$-boundedness in many cases. The proofs are based on new Littlewood-Paley-Rubio de Francia-type estimates in Banach function spaces which were recently obtained by the authors.

Rescaled extrapolation for vector-valued functions

We extend Rubio de Francia's extrapolation theorem for functions valued in UMD Banach function spaces, leading to short proofs of some new and known results. In particular we prove Littlewood-Paley-Rubio de Francia-type estimates and boundedness of variational Carleson operators for Banach function spaces with UMD concavifications.

Complex interpolation of $Z$-spaces

We prove that the $Z$-spaces $Z^{p,q}_s$ form a complex interpolation scale for all $0 < p,q \leq \infty$ and $s \in \mathbb{R}$, filling a gap in recent work with Pascal Auscher.

Elliptic Boundary Value Problems with Fractional Regularity Data: The First Order Approach

We study well-posedness of boundary value problems of Dirichlet and Neumann type for elliptic systems on the upper half-space with coefficients independent of the transversal variable, and with boundary data in fractional Besov-Hardy-Sobolev (BHS) spaces. Our approach uses minimal assumptions on the coefficients, and in particular does not require De Giorgi-Nash-Moser estimates. Our results are completely new for the Hardy-Sobolev case, and in the Besov case they extend results recently obtained by Barton and Mayboroda. First we develop a theory of BHS spaces adapted to operators which are bisectorial on $L^2$, with bounded $H^\infty$ functional calculus on their ranges, and which satisfy $L^2$ off-diagonal estimates. In particular, this theory applies to perturbed Dirac operators $DB$. We then prove that for a nontrivial range of exponents (the identification region) the BHS spaces adapted to $DB$ are equal to those adapted to $D$ (which correspond to classical BHS spaces). Our main result is the classification of solutions of the elliptic system $\operatorname{div} A \nabla u = 0$ within a certain region of exponents. More precisely, we show that if the conormal gradient of a solution belongs to a weighted tent space (or one of their real interpolants) with exponent in the classification region, and in addition vanishes at infinity in a certain sense, then it has a trace in a BHS space, and can be represented as a semigroup evolution of this trace in the transversal direction. As a corollary, any such solution can be represented in terms of an abstract layer potential operator. Within the classification region, we show that well-posedness is equivalent to a certain boundary projection being an isomorphism. We derive various consequences of this characterisation, which are illustrated in various situations, including in particular that of the Regularity problem for real equations.

$L^p$-$L^q$ off-diagonal estimates for the Ornstein--Uhlenbeck semigroup: some positive and negative results

We investigate $L^p(\gamma)$-$L^q(\gamma)$ off-diagonal estimates for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup $(e^{tL})_{t > 0}$. For sufficiently large $t$ (quantified in terms of $p$ and $q$) these estimates hold in an unrestricted sense, while for sufficiently small $t$ they fail when restricted to maximal admissible balls and sufficiently small annuli. Our counterexample uses Mehler kernel estimates.

Interpolation and embeddings of weighted tent spaces

Given a metric measure space $X$, we consider a scale of function spaces $T^{p,q}_s(X)$, called the weighted tent space scale. This is an extension of the tent space scale of Coifman, Meyer, and Stein. Under various geometric assumptions on $X$ we identify some associated interpolation spaces, in particular certain real interpolation spaces. These are identified with a new scale of function spaces, which we call $Z$-spaces, that have recently appeared in the work of Barton and Mayboroda on elliptic boundary value problems with boundary data in Besov spaces. We also prove Hardy--Littlewood--Sobolev-type embeddings between weighted tent spaces.

Non-uniformly local tent spaces

We develop a theory of `non-uniformly local' tent spaces on metric measure spaces. As our main result, we give a remarkably simple proof of the atomic decomposition.

Tent spaces over metric measure spaces under doubling and related assumptions

In this article, we define the Coifman-Meyer-Stein tent spaces $T^{p,q,α}(X)$ associated with an arbitrary metric measure space $(X,d,μ)$ under minimal geometric assumptions. While gradually strengthening our geometric assumptions, we prove duality, interpolation, and change of aperture theorems for the tent spaces. Because of the inherent technicalities in dealing with abstract metric measure spaces, most proofs are presented in full detail.
