Global strong solutions to a one-dimensional full non-Newtonian fluid with far field vacuum

In this paper, the Cauchy problem for a one-dimensional heat conducting compressible non-Newtonian fluid is considered. The constitute equation of the non-Newtonian fluid is determined by two nonlinear terms $(|u_x|^{q-2}u_x)_x$ and $(|\theta_x|^{p-2}\theta_x)_x$ with $1<p,q<2.$ When the vacuum occurs at the far field, the local and global existence of strong solutions are established for the Cauchy problem. The results indicate that the non-Newtonian fluid possesses time-dependence boundedness of the energy if the vacuum occurs at the far field and the density decays slowly at the far field as time goes to infinity. This is the key difference from the well-known result developed by Li and Xin (Advances in Mathematics 361(2020), 106923) for the one-dimensional heat conductive compressible Navier-Stokes system.

Blow-Up Theory and Liouville-Type Theorem for Solutions of a Class of Generalized Camassa-Holm-Kadomtsev-Petviashvili Equations

We investigate the blow-up behavior and Liouville-type theorems of solutions to a class of generalized Camassa-Holm-Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (CH-KP) equations with a generally smooth nonlinear term $g(u)$. First, using the continuation method, we establish a blow-up criterion that is independent of the regularity index of initial data. Under the assumption that $ g'(u)$ is uniformly bounded, we prove the blow-up theorem and a weighted blow-up result by means of characteristic lines, a priori estimates and the Riccati inequality. Moreover, we extend these blow-up results to the setting where $g'(u)$ is polynomially controlled, which includes typical nonlinearities such as $ g(u)=\kappa u+3u^2 $ for the classical CH-KP equations. Furthermore, a Liouville-type uniqueness theorem is established under the condition $g(u) \geq \gamma u^2$ with $u \neq 0$, $g(u)>\gamma u^2$.

On decay of solutions to the anisotropic Boussinesq equations near the hydrostatic balance in half space $\mathbb{R}_+^3$

The system of the Boussinesq equations is one of the most important models for geophysical fluids. This paper focuses on the initial-boundary problem of the 3D incompressible anisotropic Boussinesq system with horizontal dissipation. The goal here is to assess the stability property and large-time behavior of perturbations near the hydrostatic balance. By utilizing the structure of the system, the energy methods and the means of bootstrapping argument, we prove the global stability property in the Sobolev space $H^3(\mathbb{R}^3_+)$. After taking a Fourier transform in $x_h = (x_1, x_2)$ and Fourier cosine and sine transforms in $x_3$ for the system, we obtain the decay rates for the global solution itself as well as its derivatives.

On the stability and exponential decay of the 3D MHD system with mixed partial dissipation near a equilibrium state

A main result of this paper establishes the global stability of the 3D MHD equations with mixed partial dissipation near a background magnetic field in the domain $\Omega=\mathbb{T}^2\times\mathbb{R}$ with $\mathbb{T}^2=[0, 1]^2$. More precisely, each velocity equation lacks its own directional dissipation, and the magnetic equation lacks vertical dissipation in the MHD system. The key point to obtain the stability result is that we decompose the solution $(u,b)$ into the zeroth horizontal mode and the non-zeroth modes and complete the desired bound with the strong Poincar\'{e} type inequalities in the treatment of several nonlinear terms. Then we focus on the large-time behavior of the solution, where the non-zeroth modes decay exponentially in $H^2$, and the solution converges to its zeroth horizontal mode.

Stability and inviscid limit of the 3D anisotropic MHD system near a background magnetic field with mixed fractional partial dissipation

A main result of this paper establishes the global stability of the three-dimensional MHD equations near a background magnetic field with mixed fractional partial dissipation with $\alpha, \beta\in(\frac{1}{2}, 1]$. Namely, the velocity equations involve dissipation $(\Lambda_1^{2\alpha} + \Lambda_2^{2\alpha}+\sigma \Lambda_3^{2\alpha})u$ with the case $\sigma=1$ and $\sigma=0$. The magnetic equations without partial magnetic diffusion $\Lambda_i^{2\beta} b_i $ but with the diffusion $(-\Delta)^\beta b$, where $\Lambda_i^{s} (s>0)$ with $i=1, 2, 3$ are the directional fractional operators. Then we focus on the vanishing vertical kinematic viscosity coefficient limit of the MHD system with the case $\sigma=1$ to the case $\sigma=0$. The convergent result is obtained in the sense of $H^1$-norm.

Singular limit of 2D second grade fluid past an obstacle

In this paper, we consider the 2D second grade fluid past an obstacle satisfying the standard non-slip boundary condition at the surface of the obstacle. Second grade fluid model is a well-known non-Newtonian model, with two parameters: $\alpha$ representing length-scale, while $\nu > 0$ corresponding to viscosity. We prove that, under the constraint condition $\nu = {o}(\alpha^\frac{4}{3})$, the second grade fluid with a suitable initial velocity converges to the Euler fluid as $\alpha$ tends to zero. Moreover, we estimate the convergence rate of the solution of second grade fluid equations to the one of Euler fluid equations as $\nu$ and $\alpha$ approach zero.

Global Well-Posedness of 2D Second Grade Fluid Equations in Exterior Domain

In this article, we consider 2D second grade fluid equations in exterior domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions. For initial data $\boldsymbol{u}_0 \in \boldsymbol{H}^3(\Omega)$, the system is shown to be global well-posed. Furthermore, for arbitrary $T > 0$ and $s \geq 3$, we prove that the solution belongs to $L^\infty([0, T]; \boldsymbol{H}^s(\Omega))$ provided that $\boldsymbol{u}_0$ is in $\boldsymbol{H}^s(\Omega)$.

Global Well-Posedness of 2D Euler-$\alpha$ Equations in Exterior Domain

After casting Euler-$\alpha$ equations into vorticity-stream function formula, we obtain some very useful estimates from the properties of the vorticity formula in exterior domain. Basing on these estimates, one can have got the global existence and uniqueness of the solutions to Euler-$\alpha$ equations in 2D exterior domain provided that the initial data is regular enough.

Subsonic flows past a profile with a vortex line at the trailing edge

We established the existence, uniqueness and stability of subsonic flows past an airfoil with a vortex line at the trailing edge. Such a flow pattern is governed by the two dimensional steady compressible Euler equations. The vortex line attached to the trailing edge is a contact discontinuity for the Euler system and is treated as a free boundary. The problem is formulated and solved by using the implicit function theorem. The main difficulties are due to the fitting of the vortex line with the profile at the trailing edge and the possible subtle instability of the vortex line at the far field. Suitable choices of the weights and elaborate barrier functions are found to deal with such difficulties.

The Limit Behavior of the Second Grade Fluid

In the paper, the limit behavior of solutions to the second-grade fluid system with no-slip boundary conditions is studied as both $\nu$ and $\alpha$ tend to zero. More precisely, it is verified that the convergence from second-grade fluid system to Euler system holds as $\nu$ and $\alpha$ tend to zero independently under the radial symmetry case.

Existence theorems for the Cauchy problem of 2D nonhomogeneous incompressible non-resistive MHD equations with vacuum

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem of the nonhomogeneous incompressible non-resistive MHD on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with vacuum as far field density and prove that the 2D Cauchy problem has a unique local strong solution provided that the initial density and magnetic field decay not too slow at infinity. Furthermore, if the initial data satisfy some additional regularity and compatibility conditions, the strong solution becomes a classical one.

On classical solutions to the Cauchy problem of the 2D compressible non-resistive MHD equations with vacuum

In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem of the compressible non-resistive MHD on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with vacuum as far field density. We prove that the 2D Cauchy problem has a unique local strong solution provided the initial density and magnetic field decay not too slow at infinity. Furthermore, if the initial data satisfies some additional regularity and compatibility conditions, the strong solution becomes a classical one. Additionally, we establish a blowup criterion for the 2D compressible non-resistive MHD depending solely on the density and magnetic fields.

Existence of weak solutions for non-stationary flows of fluids with shear thinning dependent viscosities under slip boundary conditions in half space

The author treats the system of motion for an incompressible non-Newtonian fluids of the stress tensor described by $p-$potential function subject to slip boundary conditions in $\mathbb{R}^3_+$. Making use of the Oseen-type approximation to this model and the $L^\infty$-truncation method, one can establish the existence theorem of weak solutions for $p-$potential flow with $p\in(\frac{8}{5},2]$ provided that large initial data.

The uniform time of existence of the smooth solution for 3D Euler-$\alpha$ equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions

After reformulate the incompressible Euler-$\alpha$ equations in 3D smooth domain with Drichlet data, we obtain the unique classical solutions to Euler-$\alpha$ equations exist in uniform time interval independent of $\alpha$. We also show the solution of the Euler-$\alpha$ converge to the corresponding solution of Euler equation in $L^2$ in space, uniformly in time. In the sequel, it follows that the $H^s$ $(s>\frac{n}{2}+1)$ solutions of Euler-$\alpha$ equations exist in any fixed sub-interval of the maximum existent interval for the Euler equations provided that initial is regular enough and $\alpha$ is small sufficiently.

Approximation of 2D Euler Equations by the Second-Grade Fluid Equations with Dirichlet Boundary Conditions

The second-grade fluid equations are a model for viscoelastic fluids, with two parameters: $\alpha > 0$, corresponding to the elastic response, and $\nu > 0$, corresponding to viscosity. Formally setting these parameters to $0$ reduces the equations to the incompressible Euler equations of ideal fluid flow. In this article we study the limits $\alpha, \nu \to 0$ of solutions of the second-grade fluid system, in a smooth, bounded, two-dimensional domain with no-slip boundary conditions. This class of problems interpolates between the Euler-$\alpha$ model ($\nu = 0$), for which the authors recently proved convergence to the solution of the incompressible Euler equations, and the Navier-Stokes case ($\alpha = 0$), for which the vanishing viscosity limit is an important open problem. We prove three results. First, we establish convergence of the solutions of the second-grade model to those of the Euler equations provided $\nu = \mathcal{O}(\alpha^2)$, as $\alpha \to 0$, extending the main result in [19]. Second, we prove equivalence between convergence (of the second-grade fluid equations to the Euler equations) and vanishing of the energy dissipation in a suitably thin region near the boundary, in the asymptotic regime $\nu = \mathcal{O}(\alpha^{6/5})$, $\nu/\alpha^2 \to \infty$ as $\alpha \to 0$. This amounts to a convergence criterion similar to the well-known Kato criterion for the vanishing viscosity limit of the Navier-Stokes equations to the Euler equations. Finally, we obtain an extension of Kato's classical criterion to the second-grade fluid model, valid if $\alpha = \mathcal{O}(\nu^{3/2})$, as $\nu \to 0$. The proof of all these results relies on energy estimates and boundary correctors, following the original idea by Kato.

Convergence of the 2D Euler-$\alpha$ to Euler equations in the Dirichlet case: indifference to boundary layers

In this article we consider the Euler-$\alpha$ system as a regularization of the incompressible Euler equations in a smooth, two-dimensional, bounded domain. For the limiting Euler system we consider the usual non-penetration boundary condition, while, for the Euler-$\alpha$ regularization, we use velocity vanishing at the boundary. We also assume that the initial velocities for the Euler-$\alpha$ system approximate, in a suitable sense, as the regularization parameter $\alpha \to 0$, the initial velocity for the limiting Euler system. For small values of $\alpha$, this situation leads to a boundary layer, which is the main concern of this work. Our main result is that, under appropriate regularity assumptions, and despite the presence of this boundary layer, the solutions of the Euler-$\alpha$ system converge, as $\alpha \to 0$, to the corresponding solution of the Euler equations, in $L^2$ in space, uniformly in time. We also present an example involving parallel flows, in order to illustrate the indifference to the boundary layer of the $\alpha \to 0$ limit, which underlies our work.
