FeynCraft: A Game of Feynman Diagrams

FeynCraft is a browser-based game that is designed to teach players the particle interactions of the Standard Model of particle physics, and how to link these interactions together to produce valid Feynman diagrams. It is primarily targeted at undergraduates and lecturers in introductory courses in particle physics, but we anticipate that it should also be useful for school pupils and teachers studying the basics of particle physics, and perhaps also current researchers. Users may draw particle lines and link them together to form vertices and complete diagrams, and FeynCraft determines invalid vertices using a sequence of simple rules, showing users which vertices are invalid and why. Diagrams may be drawn that involve both fundamental Standard Model particles and hadrons (where hadrons are represented by their constituent quark content). Users can also be presented with a process for which they must draw valid Feynman diagrams -- FeynCraft is able to generate such 'problems' at random, but there is also the facility to create, share, import and solve curated sets of problems. Alternatively, one is able to specify the process, and ask FeynCraft itself to generate the Feynman diagrams. Finally, we include several overlay options that give more information on a Feynman diagram (e.g. QCD colour flow, interaction strengths), and the option to export a drawn diagram as LaTeX code.

On the Right Nucleus of Petit Algebras

Let $D$ be division algebra over its center $C$, let $\sigma$ be an endormorphism of $D$, let $\delta$ be a left $\sigma$-derivation of $D$, and let $R=D[t;\sigma,\delta]$ be a skew polynomial ring. We study the structure of a class of nonassociative algebras, denoted by $S_f$, whose construction canonically generalises that of the associative quotient algebras $R/Rf$ where $f\in R$ is right-invariant. We determine the structure of the right nucleus of $S_f$ when the polynomial $f$ is bounded and not right invariant and either $\delta = 0$, or $\sigma = {\rm id}_D$. As a by-product, we obtain a new proof on the size of the right nuclei of the cyclic (Petit) semifields $\mathbb{S}_f$. We look at subalgebras of the right nucleus of $S_f$, generalising several of Petit's results \cite{petit1966certains} and introduce the notion of semi-invariant elements of the coefficient ring $D$. The set of semi-invariant elements is shown to be equal to the nucleus of $S_f$ when $f$ is not right-invariant. Moreover, we compute the right nucleus of $S_f$ for certain $f$. In the final chapter of this thesis we introduce and study a special class of polynomials in $R$ called generalised A-polynomials. In a differential polynomial ring over a field of characteristic zero, A-polynomials were originally introduced by Amitsur \cite{amitsur1954differential}. We find examples of polynomials whose eigenring is a central simple algebra over the field $C \cap {\rm Fix}(\sigma) \cap {\rm Const}(\delta)$.

A generalisation of Amitsur's A-polynomials

We find examples of polynomials $f\in D[t;\sigma,\delta]$ whose eigenring $\mathcal{E}(f)$ is a central simple algebra over the field $F = C \cap {\rm Fix}(\sigma) \cap {\rm Const}(\delta)$.

The eigenspaces of twisted polynomials over cyclic field extensions

Let $K$ be a field and $\sigma$ an automorphism of $K$ of order $n$.Employing a nonassociative algebra, we study the eigenspace of a bounded skew polynomial $f\in K[t;\sigma]$. We mainly treat the case that $K/F$ is a cyclic field extension of degree $n$ with Galois group generated by $\sigma$. We obtain lower bounds on the dimension of the eigenspace, and compute it in special cases as a quotient algebra. Conditions under which a monic polynomial $f\in F[t]\subset K[t;\sigma]$ is reducible are obtained in special cases.
