A unified proof of sharp bounds for the Jacobi heat kernel with trace and estimates of multiplicative constants

We give a unified and optimized proof of the sharp bounds for the Jacobi heat kernel, which were obtained gradually in several papers in recent years. We lay particular emphasis on tracing and estimating all constants appearing throughout the entire reasoning. This allows us to quantitatively control the multiplicative constants in the Jacobi heat kernel bounds in terms of the parameters involved. Consequently, analogous control extends to a number of interrelated heat kernels. In particular, we obtain quantitative control in terms of the associated dimension for the spherical heat kernel and for all other heat kernels on compact rank one symmetric spaces.

On sharp heat kernel estimates in the context of Fourier-Dini expansions

We prove sharp estimates of the heat kernel associated with Fourier-Dini expansions on $(0,1)$ equipped with Lebesgue measure and the Neumann condition imposed on the right endpoint. Then we give several applications of this result including sharp bounds for the corresponding Poisson and potential kernels, sharp mapping properties of the maximal heat semigroup and potential operators and boundary convergence of the Fourier-Dini semigroup.

On new identities involving zeros of Bessel functions

We derive new identities involving zeros of the Bessel function $J_{\nu}$ and some related functions. These are special cases of more general identities obtained in this note, which might also be of interest.

See or Hear? Exploring the Effect of Visual and Audio Hints and Gaze-assisted Task Feedback for Visual Search Tasks in Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is emerging in visual search tasks for increasingly immersive interactions with virtual objects. We propose an AR approach providing visual and audio hints along with gaze-assisted instant post-task feedback for search tasks based on mobile head-mounted display (HMD). The target case was a book-searching task, in which we aimed to explore the effect of the hints together with the task feedback with two hypotheses. H1: Since visual and audio hints can positively affect AR search tasks, the combination outperforms the individuals. H2: The gaze-assisted instant post-task feedback can positively affect AR search tasks. The proof-of-concept was demonstrated by an AR app in HMD and a comprehensive user study (n=96) consisting of two sub-studies, Study I (n=48) without task feedback and Study II (n=48) with task feedback. Following quantitative and qualitative analysis, our results partially verified H1 and completely verified H2, enabling us to conclude that the synthesis of visual and audio hints conditionally improves the AR visual search task efficiency when coupled with task feedback.

On non-centered maximal operators related to a non-doubling and non-radial exponential measure

We investigate mapping properties of non-centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operators related to the exponential measure $d\mu(x) = \exp(-|x_1|-\ldots-|x_d|)dx$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$. The mean values are taken over Euclidean balls or cubes ($\ell^{\infty}$ balls) or diamonds ($\ell^1$ balls). Assuming that $d \ge 2$, in the cases of cubes and diamonds we prove the $L^p$-boundedness for $p > 1$ and disprove the weak type $(1,1)$ estimate. The same is proved in the case of Euclidean balls, under the restriction $d \le 4$ for the positive part.

On derivatives, Riesz transforms and Sobolev spaces for Fourier-Bessel expansions

We study the problem of an appropriate choice of derivatives associated with discrete Fourier-Bessel expansions. We introduce a new so-called essential measure Fourier-Bessel setting, where the relevant derivative is simply the ordinary derivative. Then we investigate Riesz transforms and Sobolev spaces in this context. Our main results are $L^p$-boundedness of the Riesz transforms (even in a multi-dimensional situation) and an isomorphism between the Sobolev and Fourier-Bessel potential spaces. Moreover, throughout the paper we collect various comments concerning two other closely related Fourier-Bessel situations that were considered earlier in the literature. We believe that our observations shed some new light on analysis of Fourier-Bessel expansions.

Mapping properties of fundamental harmonic analysis operators in the exotic Bessel framework

We prove sharp power-weighted $L^p$, weak type and restricted weak type inequalities for the heat semigroup maximal operator and Riesz transforms associated with the Bessel operator $B_{\nu}$ in the exotic range of the parameter $-\infty < \nu < 1$. Moreover, in the same framework, we characterize basic mapping properties for other fundamental harmonic analysis operators, including the heat semigroup based vertical $g$-function and fractional integrals (Riesz potential operators).

Genuinely sharp heat kernel estimates on compact rank-one symmetric spaces, for Jacobi expansions, on a ball and on a simplex

We prove genuinely sharp two-sided global estimates for heat kernels on all compact rank-one symmetric spaces. This generalizes the authors' recent result obtained for a Euclidean sphere of arbitrary dimension. Furthermore, similar heat kernel bounds are shown in the context of classical Jacobi expansions, on a ball and on a simplex. These results are more precise than the qualitatively sharp Gaussian estimates proved recently by several authors.

Maximal estimates for a generalized spherical mean Radon transform acting on radial functions

We study a generalized spherical means operator, viz. generalized spherical mean Radon transform, acting on radial functions. As the main results, we find conditions for the associated maximal operator and its local variant to be bounded on power weighted Lebesgue spaces. This translates, in particular, into almost everywhere convergence to radial initial data results for solutions to certain Cauchy problems for classical Euler-Poisson-Darboux and wave equations. Moreover, our results shed some new light to the interesting and important question of optimality of the yet known $L^p$ boundedness results for the maximal operator in the general non-radial case. It appears that these could still be notably improved, as indicated by our conjecture of the ultimate sharp result.

Two-weight mixed norm estimates for a generalized spherical mean Radon transform acting on radial functions

We investigate a generalized spherical means operator, viz. generalized spherical mean Radon transform, acting on radial functions. We establish an integral representation of this operator and find precise estimates of the corresponding kernel. As the main result, we prove two-weight mixed norm estimates for the integral operator, with general power weights involved. This leads to weighted Strichartz type estimates for solutions to certain Cauchy problems for classical Euler-Poisson-Darboux and wave equations with radial initial data.

Maximal operators of exotic and non-exotic Laguerre and other semigroups associated with classical orthogonal expansions

Classical settings of discrete and continuous orthogonal expansions, like Laguerre, Bessel and Jacobi, are associated with second order differential operators playing the role of the Laplacian. These depend on certain parameters of type that are usually restricted to a half-line, or a product of half-lines if higher dimensions are considered. Following earlier research done by Hajmirzaahmad, we deal in this paper with Laplacians in the above-mentioned contexts with no restrictions on the type parameters and bring to attention naturally associated orthogonal systems that in fact involve the classical ones, but are different. This reveals new frameworks related to classical orthogonal expansions and thus new potentially rich research areas, at least from the harmonic analysis perspective. To support the last claim we focus on maximal operators of multi-dimensional Laguerre, Bessel and Jacobi semigroups, with unrestricted type parameters, and prove that they satisfy weak type (1,1) estimates with respect to the appropriate measures. Generally, these measures are not (locally) finite, which makes a contrast with the classical situations and generates new difficulties. An important partial result of the paper is a new proof of the weak type (1,1) estimate for the classical multi-dimensional Laguerre semigroup maximal operator.

On Harmonic Analysis Operators in Laguerre-Dunkl and Laguerre-Symmetrized Settings

We study several fundamental harmonic analysis operators in the multi-dimensional context of the Dunkl harmonic oscillator and the underlying group of reflections isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$. Noteworthy, we admit negative values of the multiplicity functions. Our investigations include maximal operators, $g$-functions, Lusin area integrals, Riesz transforms and multipliers of Laplace and Laplace-Stieltjes type. By means of the general Calder\'on-Zygmund theory we prove that these operators are bounded on weighted $L^p$ spaces, $1 < p < \infty$, and from weighted $L^1$ to weighted weak $L^1$. We also obtain similar results for analogous set of operators in the closely related multi-dimensional Laguerre-symmetrized framework. The latter emerges from a symmetrization procedure proposed recently by the first two authors. As a by-product of the main developments we get some new results in the multi-dimensional Laguerre function setting of convolution type.

Riesz-Jacobi transforms as principal value integrals

We establish an integral representation for the Riesz transforms naturally associated with classical Jacobi expansions. We prove that the Riesz-Jacobi transforms of odd orders express as principal value integrals against kernels having non-integrable singularities on the diagonal. On the other hand, we show that the Riesz-Jacobi transforms of even orders are not singular operators. In fact they are given as usual integrals against integrable kernels plus or minus, depending on the order, the identity operator. Our analysis indicates that similar results, existing in the literature and corresponding to several other settings related to classical discrete and continuous orthogonal expansions, should be reinvestigated so as to be refined and in some cases also corrected.

Potential operators associated with Hankel and Hankel-Dunkl transforms

We study Riesz and Bessel potentials in the settings of Hankel transform, modified Hankel transform and Hankel-Dunkl transform. We prove sharp or qualitatively sharp pointwise estimates of the corresponding potential kernels. Then we characterize those $1\le p,q \le \infty$, for which the potential operators satisfy $L^p-L^q$ estimates. In case of the Riesz potentials, we also characterize those $1\le p,q \le \infty$, for which two-weight $L^p-L^q$ estimates, with power weights involved, hold. As a special case of our results, we obtain a full characterization of two power-weight $L^p-L^q$ bounds for the classical Riesz potentials in the radial case. This complements an old result of Rubin and its recent reinvestigations by De N\'apoli, Drelichman and Dur\'an, and Duoandikoetxea.

Sharp estimates for potential operators associated with Laguerre and Dunkl-Laguerre expansions

We study potential operators associated with Laguerre function expansions of convolution and Hermite types, and with Dunkl-Laguerre expansions. We prove qualitatively sharp estimates of the corresponding potential kernels. Then we characterize those $1 \le p,q \le \infty$, for which the potential operators are $L^p-L^q$ bounded. These results are sharp analogues of the classical Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev fractional integration theorem in the Laguerre and Dunkl-Laguerre settings.
