Evidence for Solar-Cycle Modulation of the Alpha-to-Proton Temperature Ratio in Solar Wind

The influence of collisional age $(A_c)$ on the alpha-to-proton temperature ratio $(T_\alpha/T_p)$ has been explored in the past. However, the modulation of this ratio with respect to the solar cycle has remained unexplored so far. We show solar-cycle modulation of $T_\alpha/T_p$ and $A_c$ using nearly three decades of in-situ observations from Wind spacecraft across distinct solar wind speed regimes and solar activity phases. Our results reveal that in the slow solar wind with velocity $<400$ km s$^{-1}$, where $A_c$ happens to be typically $>1$, the ratio $T_\alpha/T_p$ stays close to unity. This suggests frequent Coulomb collisions efficiently iron out temperature differences. In contrast, the fast wind with velocity $>500$ km s$^{-1}$, where $A_c$ happens to be typically $<1$, mass-proportional heating is most pronounced, with $T_\alpha/T_p$ often exceeding 4. The intermediate speed regime ($400$-$500$ km s$^{-1}$) represents a gradual transition between the slow and fast wind populations in terms of their solar-cycle dependence. This behavior reflects the changing dominance of high-speed streams from polar coronal holes during minima to denser slow wind during maxima. These results suggest that mass-proportional ion heating at 1 AU is not solely governed by local collisional physics but is significantly modulated by the solar cycle dependent variations in the solar wind sources.

Statistical insights on the decorrelation lengths of solar wind parameters at L1 point under varying conditions

Understanding the spatial coherence of solar wind plasma and magnetic field properties is essential for interpreting multi-spacecraft observations and for characterizing the large-scale structure of heliospheric transients. In this study, we quantify the spatial correlation of six key solar wind parameters - interplanetary magnetic field components, bulk flow speed, proton number density, and the alpha-to-proton abundance ratio - using simultaneous measurements from the ACE and Wind spacecraft as a function of their instantaneous separation distance. The analysis is performed separately for intervals of background solar wind, Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections (ICMEs), and Stream Interaction Regions (SIRs). The decay of the Pearson correlation coefficient with distance is modeled using an exponential function to infer characteristic de-correlation length scales. We find that the bulk solar wind speed is the most spatially coherent parameter in all regimes, while plasma composition exhibits the weakest coherence. Magnetic field coherence shows strong dependence on solar wind structure: ICMEs display near-unity correlations and the largest magnetic coherence scales, consistent with organized, flux-rope-like configurations, whereas SIRs exhibit reduced coherence - particularly in the north - south magnetic field component - reflecting compressed and turbulent plasma. The background solar wind exhibits intermediate behavior, with large-scale coherence in bulk plasma properties but shorter coherence lengths in magnetic fluctuations. These results provide a quantitative framework for distinguishing solar wind structures based on their spatial coherence properties and have important implications for multi-point solar wind studies and space weather applications.

Pluralis v0.1: Towards a Multicultural, Multimodal, Multilingual Benchmark for AI Risk and Reliability

Current AI safety evaluation and benchmarking frameworks predominantly rely on Western-centric culture-agnostic defaults that mask critical regional laws, socio-linguistic nuances, and cultural taboos, leaving Vision-Language Models (VLMs) vulnerable in global deployments. We introduce Pluralis v0.1: a novel multimodal, multi-regional, and multilingual dataset built from a culture-first perspective. Spanning 6,448 prompts across six Asia-Pacific countries (Bangladesh, India, Korea, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan) and eight languages, Pluralis diverges from prior work by natively sourcing localized safety hazards rather than adapting Western datasets. Crucially, it introduces a multimodal evaluation paradigm: user text (e.g., "Should I gift this?") and an image referring to "this" (e.g., a clock) - both innocuous in isolation, but synergistically triggering specific legal or cultural violations. Pluralis disentangles universal safety violations from localized cultural appropriateness, establishing the latter as a first-class evaluation axis. To operationalize this, we present Judge-Pluralis, an agreement-gated LLM-as-a-Judge ensemble trained on examples classified in an empirically derived cultural taxonomy. Observing VLM behavior on a subset of the Pluralis surfaces recurring, locale-specific failure modes such as image misidentifications with downstream harm, missed item-context-locale interactions, and inadequate refusals. These failure modes vary systematically across locales and languages, exposing blind spots that globally averaged metrics conceal. Ultimately, Pluralis is not presented as a solved evaluation framework for cultural alignment, but rather as a first step and catalyst for future innovation. We call upon the research community to utilize this foundation to advance the science of multilingual, multicultural evaluation to better support AI cultural alignment globally.

Solar Wind Heating Near the Sun: A Radial Evolution Approach

Characterizing the plasma state in the near-Sun environment is essential to constrain the mechanisms that heat and accelerate the solar wind. In this study, we use Parker Solar Probe (PSP) observations from Encounters 1 through 24 to investigate the radial evolution of solar wind plasma and magnetic field properties in this region. Using intervals with high field-of-view ($>85\%$) coverage, we derive the radial profiles of magnetic field strength ($|B|$), proton density ($N$), bulk speed ($V$), total proton temperature ($T$), parallel ($T_\parallel$) and perpendicular ($T_\perp$) temperatures, temperature anisotropy ($T_\perp/T_\parallel$), plasma beta ($\beta$), Alfv\'{e}n Mach number ($M_A$), and magnetic field fluctuations ($\delta B/B$) for sub and super-Alfv\'{e}nic regions. In super-Alfv\'{e}nic regions, power-law of $|B|$, $N$, $V$, and $T$ as a function of heliocentric distance are broadly consistent with previous \textit{Helios} results at $>0.3$ AU. The radial evolution of the components of the temperature tensor reveals distinct behavior: $T_\perp$ decreases monotonically with distance, whereas $T_\parallel$ exhibits a non-monotonic trend -- decreasing in the sub-Alfv\'{e}nic region, increasing just beyond the Alfv\'{e}n surface. We interpret the increase in $T_\parallel$ as a proxy for proton beam occurrence. We further examine the evolution of magnetic field fluctuations, finding decreasing radial/parallel fluctuations but enhanced tangential/normal/perpendicular fluctuations in sunward direction. These fluctuations may provide free energy for beam generation and particle heating via wave-particle interactions.

Evidence for in situ particle energization during the May-2024 event based on ASPEX instrument on board Aditya-L1

The interaction between interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejection (ICME) structures can alter the geo-effectiveness of the ICME events in myriad ways. Many aspects of these interaction processes are not well-understood till date. Using the energy spectra measured in two mutually orthogonal top hat analyzers (THA 1 and 2), which are part of the Solar Wind Ion Spectrometer (SWIS) subsystem of the Aditya Solar Wind Particle EXperiment (ASPEX) on board India's Aditya L1 mission, we gain insights into intricate features of ICME ICME interactions during May 2024 solar event. We report here an unprecedented two-orthogonal-plane perspective of ICME ICME interactions for the first time from the L1 point. The investigation reveals a special interaction region formed by the propagation of the forward shock driven by complex ejecta in the preceding ICME. The interaction causes the formation of a downstream region spanning over 13 hours, which propagates in the interplanetary medium. The observations reveal that this region serves as a site for proton and alpha particle energization, and the particles within this region get distributed from one plane to the other. The presence of forward shock and particle energization is confirmed by the energetic particle flux measurements by the SupraThermal and Energetic Particle Spectrometer (STEPS) of ASPEX. These observations provide an unprecedented perspective on how solar wind ions become energized and distributed in an ICME-ICME interaction region.

One Year of ASPEX-STEPS Operation: Characteristic Features, Observations and Science Potential

The SupraThermal and Energetic Particle Spectrometer (STEPS), a subsystem of the Aditya Solar wind Particle EXperiment (ASPEX) onboard India's Aditya-L1 satellite, is designed to study different aspects of energetic particles in the interplanetary medium from the Sun-Earth L1 point using six detector units oriented in different directions. This article presents details of the one-year operation (08 January 2024 - 28 February 2025) of the AL1-ASPEX-STEPS after the insertion of the satellite into the final halo orbit around the L1 point with emphasis on performance, science observations, and scientific potentials. Four out of six AL1-ASPEX-STEPS units exhibit a stable detector response throughout the observation period, confirming operational robustness. This work also includes the temporal variation of particle fluxes, spectra of ions during selected quiet times and transient events, and cross-comparisons with existing instruments at the L1 point. A strong correlation (with coefficient of determination, R2 ~ 0.9) is observed in the cross-comparison study, establishing the reliability of the AL1- ASPEX-STEPS observations. AL1-ASPEX-STEPS also captures different forms of energetic ion spectra similar to those observed by previous missions. These results underscore the instrument's potential to contribute significantly to the study of energetic particle acceleration, transport, and long-term space weather monitoring from the Sun-Earth L1 vantage point.

One year of ASPEX-SWIS operation -- Characteristic features, observations and science potential

The Aditya-L1 mission, India's first dedicated solar observatory positioned at the first Lagrange point (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, carries the Solar Wind Ion Spectrometer (SWIS) as part of the ASPEX payload suite. Even before settling into its Halo orbit, SWIS has been providing nearly continuous in-situ measurements of solar wind ion spectra. Moments of the velocity distribution functions (VDFs) have been calculated to derive key solar wind parameters such as density, bulk speed, and temperature. In this study, we assess the performance of SWIS (hereafter referred to as AL1-ASPEX-SWIS) by comparing its measurements with contemporaneous data from the Wind and DSCOVR missions. In this study, we assess the performance of SWIS (hereafter referred to as AL1-ASPEX-SWIS) by comparing its measurements with contemporaneous data from the Wind and DSCOVR missions. A detailed case study of the interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) event on August 7, 2024, is presented, where sharp changes in bulk speed, thermal speed, and number density were found to be well-aligned with independent observations-confirming the instrument's ability to capture dynamic solar wind features. Spectral analysis of kinetic fluctuations revealed a well-defined inertial range with a spectral slope consistent with magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. Furthermore, a 17-month statistical comparison (from January 2024 to May 2025) shows a strong correlation in bulk velocity (R2 = 0.94 with Wind), with expected variations in thermal speed and density arising from differences between instruments. These findings demonstrate the scientific value of AL1-ASPEX-SWIS for monitoring both transient solar events and long-term solar wind conditions.

Multi-directional investigations on quiet time suprathermal ions measured by ASPEX-STEPS on-board Aditya L1

The origin, acceleration and anisotropy of suprathermal ions in the interplanetary medium during quiet periods have remained poorly understood issues in solar wind physics. To address these aspects, we derive the spectral indices for the quiet time suprathermal ions based on the measurements by the four directionally separated sensors that are part of the Supra-Thermal and Energetic Particle Spectrometer (STEPS) of Aditya Solar Wind Particle EXperiment (ASPEX) on-board Aditya L1 spacecraft. Three out of four STEPS sensors Parker Spiral (PS), Inter-Mediate (IM), Earth Pointing (EP) are in one plane (nearly aligned with the ecliptic plane) while the fourth sensor North Pointing (NP) is in a mutually orthogonal plane. The energy ranges covered by the PS, IM, EP and NP sensors are 0.36-1.32 MeV, 0.14-1.22 MeV, 0.39-1.33 MeV and 0.12-1.23 MeV respectively. The quiet intervals are identified during January November, 2024 and the derived spectral indices (differential directional flux versus energy) are found to be in the range of 2.0 for all directions in the time scale of a few days revealing isotropic nature of their distribution. Further analysis of elemental abundance ratios (3He/4He, Fe/O, and C/O) during the same quiet intervals obtained from the Ultra-Low Energy Isotope Spectrometer (ULEIS) on board the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) spacecraft suggests possible contributions from the leftover ions from the previous impulsive (Solar flares) and gradual events (CMEs) in the quiet time suprathermal ion pool.

Energetic ($<$ 2 MeV) ion fluxes measured by ASPEX-STEPS on board Aditya-L1 during its earth-bound phase

During its earth-bound phase of the Aditya-L1 spacecraft of India, the Supra-Thermal and Energetic Particle Spectrometer (STEPS) of the Aditya Solar wind Particle EXperiment (ASPEX) was operated whenever the orbit was above 52000 km during 11 - 19 September 2023. This phase of operation provided measurements of energetic ions (with energies 0.1--2 MeV) in the magnetosphere, magnetosheath, and interplanetary medium. Three interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICME) hit the magnetosphere during this period. This provided opportunity to examine the relative roles of ICME-generated solar energetic particles (SEPs) and substorm generated energetic ions on the magnetosphere. We approach this objective by detailed spectral analyses of energetic ion fluxes measured by two units of ASPEX-STEPS. We identify three distinctly different conditions of the north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF $B_z$ = 0, $>$ 0, and $<$ 0) and use the derived spectral indices to understand this relative role. By combining these with the simultaneous energetic ion flux variations from the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) around the Sun-Earth first Lagrangian (L1) point and the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) in the Earth's magnetosphere, we show that the polarity of IMF $B_z$ influences the energetic ion spectra in the magnetosphere by modulating the interplay of the ICME-generated SEP with the energetic particles generated inside the magnetosphere by substorms. Interestingly, ASPEX-STEPS observations also indicate towards directional anisotropy based on spectral indices. This suggests spatially inhomogeneous mixing of energetic ions coming from different source processes.

ProdRev: A DNN framework for empowering customers using generative pre-trained transformers

Following the pandemic, customers, preference for using e-commerce has accelerated. Since much information is available in multiple reviews (sometimes running in thousands) for a single product, it can create decision paralysis for the buyer. This scenario disempowers the consumer, who cannot be expected to go over so many reviews since its time consuming and can confuse them. Various commercial tools are available, that use a scoring mechanism to arrive at an adjusted score. It can alert the user to potential review manipulations. This paper proposes a framework that fine-tunes a generative pre-trained transformer to understand these reviews better. Furthermore, using "common-sense" to make better decisions. These models have more than 13 billion parameters. To fine-tune the model for our requirement, we use the curie engine from generative pre-trained transformer (GPT3). By using generative models, we are introducing abstractive summarization. Instead of using a simple extractive method of summarizing the reviews. This brings out the true relationship between the reviews and not simply copy-paste. This introduces an element of "common sense" for the user and helps them to quickly make the right decisions. The user is provided the pros and cons of the processed reviews. Thus the user/customer can take their own decisions.

AILuminate: Introducing v1.0 of the AI Risk and Reliability Benchmark from MLCommons

The rapid advancement and deployment of AI systems have created an urgent need for standard safety-evaluation frameworks. This paper introduces AILuminate v1.0, the first comprehensive industry-standard benchmark for assessing AI-product risk and reliability. Its development employed an open process that included participants from multiple fields. The benchmark evaluates an AI system's resistance to prompts designed to elicit dangerous, illegal, or undesirable behavior in 12 hazard categories, including violent crimes, nonviolent crimes, sex-related crimes, child sexual exploitation, indiscriminate weapons, suicide and self-harm, intellectual property, privacy, defamation, hate, sexual content, and specialized advice (election, financial, health, legal). Our method incorporates a complete assessment standard, extensive prompt datasets, a novel evaluation framework, a grading and reporting system, and the technical as well as organizational infrastructure for long-term support and evolution. In particular, the benchmark employs an understandable five-tier grading scale (Poor to Excellent) and incorporates an innovative entropy-based system-response evaluation. In addition to unveiling the benchmark, this report also identifies limitations of our method and of building safety benchmarks generally, including evaluator uncertainty and the constraints of single-turn interactions. This work represents a crucial step toward establishing global standards for AI risk and reliability evaluation while acknowledging the need for continued development in areas such as multiturn interactions, multimodal understanding, coverage of additional languages, and emerging hazard categories. Our findings provide valuable insights for model developers, system integrators, and policymakers working to promote safer AI deployment.

Exploring the Performance of Genetic Algorithm and Variable Neighborhood Search for Solving the Single Depot Multiple Set Orienteering Problem: A Comparative Study

This article discusses the single Depot multiple Set Orienteering Problem (sDmSOP), a recently suggested generalization of the Set Orienteering Problem (SOP). This problem aims to discover a path for each traveler over a subset of vertices, where each vertex is associated with only one cluster, and the total profit made from the clusters visited is maximized while still fitting within the available budget constraints. The profit can be collected only by visiting at least one cluster vertex. According to the SOP, each vertex cluster must have at least one of its visits counted towards the profit for that cluster. Like to the SOP, the sDmSOP restricts the number of clusters visited based on the budget for tour expenses. To address this problem, we employ the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) meta-heuristic. The optimal solution for small-sized problems is also suggested by solving the Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation using the General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) 37.1.0 with CPLEX for the sDmSOP. Promising computational results are presented that demonstrate the practicability of the proposed GA, VNS meta-heuristic, and ILP formulation by demonstrating substantial improvements to the solutions generated by VNS than GA while simultaneously needing much less time to compute than CPLEX.

Quantum Controlled Error-Correction Teleportation (QCECT) Scheme for Satellite Control and Communication

A 5-qubit quantum controlled teleportation scheme incorporated with a 3-qubit quantum error-corrective circuit is proposed for satellite control and communication. This means that the coordinates of a satellite on the unit two-dimensional Bloch sphere representation can be sent to the ground based operator via quantum teleportation. Applying quantum rotation operators to the initial quantum state, to obtain desired changes, the corrected/desired quantum state can be sent back to the satellite to adjust its coordinates.

An Optimized Design of Reversible Sequential Digital Circuits

In the today's era, reversible logics are the promising technology for the designing of low power digital logic system having major application in the field of nanotechnology, quantum computation, DNA and other low power digital circuits. Reversible logics provide zero power dissipation (Ideally) in the digital operations. There are numbers of circuit designed by the reversible logics and sequential circuits have their own importance in the digital systems. In this paper authors provides a optimized approach and optimized design for the sequential circuit (counter as an example) by using the MUX gate (a reversible gate) which provides the better results against the previous designs discussed in the literature. The proposed design has lower quantum cost, garbage output, constant input and total number of logical calculations performing by the design.

In today's world everyday a new technology which is faster, smaller and more complex than its predecessor is being developed. The increased number of transistors packed onto a chip of a conventional system results in increased power consumption that is why Reversible logic has drawn attention of Researchers due to its less heat dissipating characteristics. Reversible logic can be imposed over applications such as quantum computing, optical computing, quantum dot cellular automata, low power VLSI circuits, DNA computing.
