$\mathrm{K}^{*}(\mathrm{892})^{0}$ and $\mathrm{ϕ(1020)}$ production in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV

The production of $\mathrm{K}^{*}(\mathrm{892})^{0}$ and $\mathrm{ϕ(1020)}$ resonances has been measured in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV using the ALICE detector. Resonances are reconstructed via their hadronic decay channels in the rapidity interval $-$0.5 $<$ $y$ $<$ 0 and the transverse momentum spectra are measured for various multiplicity classes up to $p_{\rm T}$ = 20 GeV/$c$ for $\mathrm{K}^{*}(\mathrm{892})^{0}$ and $p_{\rm T}$ = 16 GeV/$c$ for $\mathrm{ϕ(1020)}$. The $p_{\rm T}$ -integrated yields and mean transverse momenta are reported and compared with previous results in pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions. The $x_{\mathrm{T}}$ scaling for $\mathrm{K}^{*}(\mathrm{892})^{0}$ and $\mathrm{ϕ(1020)}$ resonance production is newly tested in p-Pb collisions and found to hold in the high-$p_{\rm T}$ region at Large Hadron Collider energies. The nuclear modification factors ($R_{\rm pPb}$) as a function of $p_{\rm T}$ for $\mathrm{K}^{*0}$ and $\mathrmϕ$ at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV are presented along with the new $R_{\rm pPb}$ measurements of $\mathrm{K}^{*0}$, $\mathrmϕ$ , $Ξ$, and $Ω$ at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. At intermediate $p_{\rm T}$ (2-8 GeV/$c$), $R_{\rm pPb}$ of $Ξ$, $Ω$ show a Cronin-like enhancement, while $\mathrm{K}^{*0}$ and $\mathrmϕ$ show no or little nuclear modification. At high $p_{\rm T}$ ($>$ 8 GeV/$c$), the $R_{\rm pPb}$ values of all hadrons are consistent with unity within uncertainties. The $R_{\rm pPb}$ of $\mathrm{K}^{*}(\mathrm{892})^{0}$ and $\mathrm{ϕ(1020)}$ at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 8.16 and 5.02 TeV show no significant energy dependence.

Constraining the ${\rm\overline{K}N}$ coupled channel dynamics using femtoscopic correlations at the LHC

The interaction of $\rm{K}^{-}$ with protons is characterised by the presence of several coupled channels, systems like ${\rm \overline{K}^0}$n and $πΣ$ with a similar mass and the same quantum numbers as the $\rm{K}^{-}$p state. The strengths of these couplings to the $\rm{K}^{-}$p system are of crucial importance for the understanding of the nature of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance and of the attractive $\rm{K}^{-}$p strong interaction. In this article, we present measurements of the $\rm{K}^{-}$p correlation functions in relative momentum space obtained in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}~=~13$ TeV, in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}~=~5.02$ TeV, and (semi)peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}~=~5.02$ TeV. The emitting source size, composed of a core radius anchored to the $\rm{K}^{+}$p correlation and of a resonance halo specific to each particle pair, varies between 1 and 2 fm in these collision systems. The strength and the effects of the ${\rm \overline{K}^0}$n and $πΣ$ inelastic channels on the measured $\rm{K}^{-}$p correlation function are investigated in the different colliding systems by comparing the data with state-of-the-art models of chiral potentials. A novel approach to determine the conversion weights $ω$, necessary to quantify the amount of produced inelastic channels in the correlation function, is presented. In this method, particle yields are estimated from thermal model predictions, and their kinematic distribution from blast-wave fits to measured data. The comparison of chiral potentials to the measured $\rm{K}^{-}$p interaction indicates that, while the $πΣ-\rm{K}^{-}$p dynamics is well reproduced by the model, the coupling to the ${\rm \overline{K}^0}$n channel in the model is currently underestimated.

$Σ(1385)^{\pm}$ resonance production in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV

Hadronic resonances are used to probe the hadron gas produced in the late stage of heavy-ion collisions since they decay on the same timescale, of the order of 1 to 10 fm/$c$, as the decoupling time of the system. In the hadron gas, (pseudo)elastic scatterings among the products of resonances that decayed before the kinetic freeze-out and regeneration processes counteract each other, the net effect depending on the resonance lifetime, the duration of the hadronic phase, and the hadronic cross sections at play. In this context, the $Σ(1385)^{\pm}$ particle is of particular interest as models predict that regeneration dominates over rescattering despite its relatively short lifetime of about 5.5 fm/$c$. The first measurement of the $Σ(1385)^{\pm}$ resonance production at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}= 5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector is presented in this Letter. The resonances are reconstructed via their hadronic decay channel, $Λπ$, as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) and the collision centrality. The results are discussed in comparison with the measured yield of pions and with expectations from the statistical hadronization model as well as commonly employed event generators, including PYTHIA8/Angantyr and EPOS3 coupled to the UrQMD hadronic cascade afterburner. None of the models can describe the data. For $Σ(1385)^{\pm}$, a similar behaviour as ${\rm K}^{*} (892)^{0}$ is observed in data unlike the predictions of EPOS3 with afterburner.

Measurement of beauty production via non-prompt ${\rm D}^{0}$ mesons in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

The production of non-prompt ${\rm D}^{0}$ mesons from beauty-hadron decays was measured at midrapidity ($\left| y \right| < 0.5$) in Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02~\mathrm{TeV}$ with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. Their nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm AA}$), measured for the first time down to $p_{\rm T}=1~\mathrm{GeV}/c$ in the $0-10$% and $30-50$% centrality classes, indicates a significant suppression, up to a factor of about three, for $p_{\rm T} > 5~\mathrm{GeV}/c$ in the $0-10$% central Pb-Pb collisions. The data are described by models that include both collisional and radiative processes in the calculation of beauty-quark energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma, and quark recombination in addition to fragmentation as a hadronisation mechanism. The ratio of the non-prompt to prompt ${\rm D}^{0}$-meson $R_{\rm AA}$ is larger than unity for $p_{\rm T} > 4~\mathrm{GeV}/c$ in the $0-10$% central Pb-Pb collisions, as predicted by models in which beauty quarks lose less energy than charm quarks in the quark-gluon plasma because of their larger mass.

Inclusive quarkonium production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV

This article reports on the inclusive production cross section of several quarkonium states, $\mathrm{J}/ψ$, $ψ{\rm (2S)}$, $Υ\rm(1S)$, $Υ\rm(2S)$, and $Υ\rm(3S)$, measured with the ALICE detector at the LHC, in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV. The analysis is performed in the dimuon decay channel at forward rapidity ($2.5 < y < 4$). The integrated cross sections and transverse-momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) and rapidity ($y$) differential cross sections for $\mathrm{J}/ψ$, $ψ{\rm (2S)}$, $Υ\rm(1S)$, and the $ψ{\rm (2S)}$-to-$\mathrm{J}/ψ$ cross section ratios are presented. The integrated cross sections, assuming unpolarized quarkonia, are: $σ_{\mathrm{J}/ψ}$($p_{\rm T}<20$ GeV/c) = 5.88 $\pm$ 0.03 $\pm$ 0.34 $μ$b, $σ_{ψ{\rm (2S)}}$($p_{\rm T}<12$ GeV/c) = 0.87 $\pm$ 0.06 $\pm$ 0.10 $μ$b, $σ_{Υ\rm(1S)}$($p_{\rm T}<15$ GeV/c) = 45.5 $\pm$ 3.9 $\pm$ 3.5 nb, $σ_{Υ\rm(2S)}$($p_{\rm T}<15$ GeV/c) = 22.4 $\pm$ 3.2 $\pm$ 2.7 nb, and $σ_{Υ\rm(3S)}$($p_{\rm T}<15$ GeV/c) = 4.9 $\pm$ 2.2 $\pm$ 1.0 nb, where the first (second) uncertainty is the statistical (systematic) one. For the first time, the cross sections of the three $Υ$ states, as well as the $ψ{\rm (2S)}$ one as a function of $p_{\rm T}$ and $y$, are measured at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV at forward rapidity. These measurements also significantly extend the $\mathrm{J}/ψ$ $p_{\rm T}$ reach and supersede previously published results. A comparison with ALICE measurements in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 2.76$, 7, 8, and 13 TeV is presented and the energy dependence of quarkonium production cross sections is discussed. Finally, the results are compared with the predictions from several production models.

Measurement of of $^{3}\overline{\rm He}$ nuclei absorption in matter and impact on their propagation in the galaxy

In our Galaxy, light antinuclei composed of antiprotons and antineutrons can be produced through high-energy cosmic-ray collisions with the interstellar medium or could also originate from the annihilation of dark-matter particles that have not yet been discovered. On Earth, the only way to produce and study antinuclei with high precision is to create them at high-energy particle accelerators. Although the properties of elementary antiparticles have been studied in detail, the knowledge of the interaction of light antinuclei with matter is limited. We determine the disappearance probability of $^{3}\overline{\rm He}$ when it encounters matter particles and annihilates or disintegrates within the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. We extract the inelastic interaction cross section, which is then used as input to calculations of the transparency of our Galaxy to the propagation of $^{3}\overline{\rm He}$ stemming from dark-matter annihilation and cosmic-ray interactions within the interstellar medium. For a specific dark-matter profile, we estimate a transparency of about 50%, whereas it varies with increasing $^{3}\overline{\rm He}$ momentum from 25% to 90% for cosmic-ray sources. The results indicate that $^{3}\overline{\rm He}$ nuclei can travel long distances in the Galaxy, and can be used to study cosmic-ray interactions and dark-matter annihilation.

Investigating the role of strangeness in baryon$-$antibaryon annihilation at the LHC

Annihilation dynamics plays a fundamental role in the baryon$-$antibaryon interaction (B$-\rm{\overline{B}}$) at low-energy and its strength and range are crucial in the assessment of possible baryonic bound states. Experimental data on annihilation cross sections are available for the p$-\rm{\overline{p}}$ system but not in the low relative momentum region. Data regarding the B$-\rm{\overline{B}}$ interaction with strange degrees of freedom are extremely scarce, hence the modeling of the annihilation contributions is mainly based on nucleon$-$antinucleon (N$-\rm{\overline{N}}$) results, when available. In this letter we present a measurement of the p$-\rm{\overline{p}}$, p$-\overlineΛ\oplus\rm{\overline{p}}-Λ$ and $Λ-\overlineΛ$ interaction using correlation functions in the relative momentum space in high-multiplicity triggered pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. In the p$-\rm{\overline{p}}$ system the couplings to the mesonic channels in different partial waves are extracted by adopting a coupled-channel approach with recent $χ\rm{EFT}$ potentials. The inclusion of these inelastic channels provides good agreement with the data, showing a significant presence of the annihilation term down to zero momentum. Predictions obtained using the Lednický$-$Lyuboshits formula and scattering parameters obtained from heavy-ion collisions, hence mainly sensitive to elastic processes, are compared with the experimental p$-\overlineΛ\oplus\rm{\overline{p}}-Λ$ and $Λ-\overlineΛ$ correlations. The model describes the $Λ-\overlineΛ$ data and underestimates the p$-\overlineΛ\oplus\rm{\overline{p}}-Λ$ data in the region of momenta below 200 MeV/$c$. The observed deviation indicates a different contribution of annihilation channels to the two systems containing strange hadrons.

Inclusive, prompt and non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ production at midrapidity in p$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV

A measurement of inclusive, prompt, and non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ production in p$-$Pb collisions at a nucleon$-$nucleon centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV is presented. The inclusive ${\rm J}/ψ$ mesons are reconstructed in the dielectron decay channel at midrapidity down to a transverse momentum $p_{\rm T} = 0$. The inclusive ${\rm J}/ψ$ nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm pPb}$ is calculated by comparing the new results in p$-$Pb collisions to a recently measured proton$-$proton reference at the same centre-of-mass energy. Non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ mesons, which originate from the decay of beauty hadrons, are separated from promptly produced ${\rm J}/ψ$ on a statistical basis for $p_{\rm T}$ larger than 1.0 GeV/$c$. These results are based on the data sample collected by the ALICE detector during the 2016 LHC p$-$Pb run, corresponding to an integrated luminosity ${\cal L}_{\rm int} = 292 \pm 11 \; {\rm μb}^{-1}$, which is six times larger than the previous publications. The total uncertainty on the $p_{\rm T}$-integrated inclusive ${\rm J}/ψ$ and non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ cross section are reduced by a factor 1.7 and 2.2, respectively. The measured cross sections and $R_{\rm pPb}$ are compared with theoretical models that include various combinations of cold nuclear matter effects. From the non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ production cross section, the ${\rm b\overline{b}}$ production cross section at midrapidity, $\mathrm{d}σ_{\rm b\overline{b}}/\mathrm{d}y$, and the total cross section extrapolated over full phase space, $σ_{\rm b\overline{b}}$, are derived.

Forward rapidity J/$ψ$ production as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 5.02 and 13 TeV

The production of J/$ψ$ is measured as a function of charged-particle multiplicity at forward rapidity in proton$-$proton (pp) collisions at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s} =$ 5.02 and 13 TeV. The J/$ψ$ mesons are reconstructed via their decay into dimuons in the rapidity interval (2.5 $< y <$ 4.0), whereas the charged-particle multiplicity density (${\rm d}N_{\rm{ch}}/{\rm d}η$) is measured at midrapidity $(|η| < 1)$. The production rate as a function of multiplicity is reported as the ratio of the yield in a given multiplicity interval to the multiplicity-integrated one. This observable shows a linear increase with charged-particle multiplicity normalized to the corresponding average value for inelastic events (${{\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}η}/{\langle {\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}η\rangle}$), at both the colliding energies. Measurements are compared with available ALICE results at midrapidity and theoretical model calculations. First measurement of the mean transverse momentum ($\langle p_{\mathrm{T}}\rangle$) of J/$ψ$ in pp collisions exhibits an increasing trend as a function of ${{\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}η}/{\langle {\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}η\rangle}$ showing a saturation towards high charged-particle multiplicities.

Neutral to charged kaon yield fluctuations in Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76TeV

We present the first measurement of event-by-event fluctuations in the kaon sector in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt {s_{\rm NN}}=$ 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The robust fluctuation correlator $ν_{\rm dyn}$ is used to evaluate the magnitude of fluctuations of the relative yields of neutral and charged kaons, as well as the relative yields of charged kaons, as a function of collision centrality and selected kinematic ranges. While the correlator $ν_{\rm dyn}[\rm K^+,\rm K^-]$ exhibits a scaling approximately in inverse proportion of the charged particle multiplicity, $ν_{\rm dyn}[\rm K_S^0,\rm K^{\pm}]$ features a significant deviation from such scaling. Within uncertainties, the value of $ν_{\rm dyn}[\rm K_S^0,\rm K^{\pm}]$ is independent of the selected transverse momentum interval, while it exhibits a pseudorapidity dependence. The results are compared with HIJING, AMPT and EPOS-LHC predictions, and are further discussed in the context of the possible production of disoriented chiral condensates in central Pb-Pb collisions.

General balance functions of identified charged hadron pairs of $(π,{\rm K},{\rm p})$ in Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV

First measurements of balance functions (BFs) of all combinations of identified charged hadron $(π,\rm K,\rm p)$ pairs in Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV recorded by the ALICE detector are presented. The BF measurements are carried out as two-dimensional differential correlators versus the relative rapidity ($Δy$) and azimuthal angle ($Δφ$) of hadron pairs, and studied as a function of collision centrality. The $Δφ$ dependence of BFs is expected to be sensitive to the light quark diffusivity in the quark$-$gluon plasma. While the BF azimuthal widths of all pairs substantially decrease from peripheral to central collisions, the longitudinal widths exhibit mixed behaviors: BFs of $ππ$ and cross-species pairs narrow significantly in more central collisions, whereas those of $\rm KK$ and $\rm pp$ are found to be independent of collision centrality. This dichotomy is qualitatively consistent with the presence of strong radial flow effects and the existence of two stages of quark production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Finally, the first measurements of the collision centrality evolution of BF integrals are presented, with the observation that charge balancing fractions are nearly independent of collision centrality in Pb$-$Pb collisions. Overall, the results presented provide new and challenging constraints for theoretical models of hadron production and transport in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Production of K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ and $ϕ(1020)$ in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV

The production of K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ and $ϕ(1020)$ mesons in proton-proton (pp) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV has been measured using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The transverse momentum ($p_{\mathrm{T}}$) distributions of K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ and $ϕ(1020)$ mesons have been measured at midrapidity $(|y|<0.5)$ up to $p_{\mathrm{T}} = 20$ GeV$/c$ in inelastic pp collisions and for several Pb-Pb collision centralities. The collision centrality and collision energy dependence of the average transverse momenta agree with the radial flow scenario observed with stable hadrons, showing that the effect is stronger for more central collisions and higher collision energies. The $\mathrm{K^{*0}/K}$ ratio is found to be suppressed in Pb-Pb collisions relative to pp collisions: this indicates a loss of the measured K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ signal due to rescattering of its decay products in the hadronic phase. In contrast, for the longer-lived $ϕ(1020)$ mesons, no such suppression is observed. The nuclear modification factors ($R_{\rm AA}$) of K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ and $ϕ(1020)$ mesons are calculated using pp reference spectra at the same collision energy. In central Pb-Pb collisions for $p_{\rm T} > 8$ GeV$/c$, the $R_{\rm AA}$ values of K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ and $ϕ(1020)$ are below unity and observed to be similar to those of pions, kaons, and (anti)protons. The $R_{\rm AA}$ values at high $p_{\mathrm T}$ ($>$~8 GeV$/c$) for K$^{*}(892)^{0}$ and $ϕ(1020)$ mesons are in agreement within uncertainties for $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 5.02$ and 2.76 TeV.

Prompt and non-prompt J/$ψ$ production cross sections at midrapidity in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 13 TeV

The production of J/$ψ$ is measured at midrapidity ($|y|<0.9$) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 13 TeV, through the dielectron decay channel, using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The data sets used for the analyses correspond to integrated luminosities of $\mathcal{L}_{\rm int}$ = 19.4 $\pm$ 0.4 nb$^{-1}$ and $\mathcal{L}_{\rm int}$ = 32.2 $\pm$ 0.5 nb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 13 TeV, respectively. The fraction of non-prompt J/$ψ$ mesons, i.e. those originating from the decay of beauty hadrons, is measured down to a transverse momentum $p_{\rm T}$ = 2 GeV/$c$ (1 GeV/$c$) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV (13 TeV). The $p_{\rm T}$ and rapidity ($y$) differential cross sections, as well as the corresponding values integrated over $p_{\rm T}$ and $y$, are carried out separately for prompt and non-prompt J/$ψ$ mesons. The results are compared with measurements from other experiments and theoretical calculations based on quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The shapes of the $p_{\rm T}$ and $y$ distributions of beauty quarks predicted by state-of-the-art perturbative QCD models are used to extrapolate an estimate of the $\rm b\overline{b}$ pair cross section at midrapidity and in the total phase space. The total $\rm b\overline{b}$ cross sections are found to be $σ_{\rm b \overline{\rm b}} = 541 \pm 45 (\rm stat.) \pm 69 (\rm syst.)_{-12}^{+10} (\rm extr.)~{\rm μb}$ and $σ_{\rm b \overline{\rm b}}~=~218 \pm 37 (\rm stat.) \pm 31 (\rm syst.)_{-9.1}^{+8.2} (\rm extr.)~{\rm μb}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 and 5.02 TeV, respectively. The value obtained from the combination of ALICE and LHCb measurements in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV is also provided.

Study of very forward energy and its correlation with particle production at midrapidity in pp and p-Pb collisions at the LHC

The energy deposited at very forward rapidities (very forward energy) is a powerful tool for characterising proton fragmentation in pp and p$-$Pb collisions. The correlation of very forward energy with particle production at midrapidity provides direct insights into the initial stages and the subsequent evolution of the collision. Furthermore, the correlation with the production of particles with large transverse momenta at midrapidity provides information complementary to the measurements of the underlying event, which are usually interpreted in the framework of models implementing centrality-dependent multiple parton interactions. Results about very forward energy, measured by the ALICE zero degree calorimeters (ZDCs), and its dependence on the activity measured at midrapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV and in p$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}=8.16$ TeV are discussed. The measurements performed in pp collisions are compared with the expectations of three hadronic interaction event generators: PYTHIA 6 (Perugia 2011 tune), PYTHIA 8 (Monash tune), and EPOS LHC. These results provide new constraints on the validity of models in describing the beam remnants at very forward rapidities, where perturbative QCD cannot be used.

Observation of a multiplicity dependence in the $p_{\rm T}$-differential charm baryon-to-meson ratios in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV

The production of prompt $D^{0}$, $D^{+}_{\rm s}$, and $Λ_{\rm c}^{+}$ hadrons, and their ratios, $D^{+}_{\rm s}$/$D^{0}$ and $Λ_{\rm c}^{+}$/$D^{0}$, are measured in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at midrapidity ($|y| <0.5$) with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed as a function of the charm-hadron transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) in intervals of charged-particle multiplicity, measured with two multiplicity estimators covering different pseudorapidity regions. While the strange to non-strange $D^{+}_{\rm s}$/$D^{0}$ ratio indicates no significant multiplicity dependence, the baryon-to-meson $p_{\rm T}$-differential $Λ_{\rm c}^{+}$/$D^{0}$ ratio shows a multiplicity-dependent enhancement, with a significance of 5.3$σ$ for $1< p_{\rm T} < 12$ GeV/$c$, comparing the highest multiplicity interval with respect to the lowest one. The measurements are compared with a theoretical model that explains the multiplicity dependence by a canonical treatment of quantum charges in the statistical hadronisation approach, and with predictions from event generators that implement colour reconnection mechanisms beyond the leading colour approximation to model the hadronisation process. The $Λ_{\rm c}^{+}$/$D^{0}$ ratios as a function of $p_{\rm T}$ present a similar shape and magnitude as the $Λ/K^{0}_{s}$ ratios in comparable multiplicity intervals, suggesting a potential common mechanism for light- and charm-hadron formation, with analogous multiplicity dependence. The $p_{\rm T}$-integrated ratios, extrapolated down to $p_{\rm T}$=0, do not show a significant dependence on multiplicity within the uncertainties.

Exploring the N$Λ$-N$Σ$ coupled system with high precision correlation techniques at the LHC

The interaction of $Λ$ and $Σ$ hyperons (Y) with nucleons (N) is strongly influenced by the coupled-channel dynamics. Due to the small mass difference of the $\rm N Λ$ and $\rm N Σ$ systems, the sizeable coupling strength of the $\rm N Σ\leftrightarrow N Λ$ processes constitutes a crucial element in the determination of the N$Λ$ interaction. In this letter we present the most precise measurements on the interaction of p$Λ$ pairs, from zero relative momentum up to the opening of the $\rm N Σ$ channel. The correlation function in the relative momentum space for $\mathrm{p}Λ\oplus\overline{\mathrm{p}}\overlineΛ$ pairs measured in high-multiplicity triggered pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}~=~13$ TeV at the LHC is reported. The opening of the inelastic N$Σ$ channels is visible in the extracted correlation function as a cusp-like structure occurring at relative momentum $k^{*}$ = 289 MeV/$c$. This represents the first direct experimental observation of the $\rm N Σ\rightarrow N Λ$ coupled channel in the p$Λ$ system. The correlation function is compared with recent chiral effective field theory calculations, based on different strengths of the $\rm N Σ\leftrightarrow N Λ$ transition potential. A weaker coupling, as possibly supported by the present measurement, would require a more repulsive three-body NN$Λ$ interaction for a proper description of the $Λ$ in-medium properties, which has implications on the nuclear equation of state and for the presence of hyperons inside neutron stars.

K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^0_{\rm S}$ and K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^\pm$ femtoscopy in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 5.02 and 13 TeV

Femtoscopic correlations with the particle pair combinations K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^0_{\rm S}$ and K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^\pm$ are studied in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ and $13$ TeV by the ALICE experiment. At both energies, boson source parameters are extracted for both pair combinations, by fitting models based on Gaussian size distributions of the sources, to the measured two-particle correlation functions. The interaction model used for the K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^0_{\rm S}$ analysis includes quantum statistics and strong final-state interactions through the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances. The model used for the K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^\pm$ analysis includes only the final-state interaction through the $a_0$ resonance. Source parameters extracted in the present work are compared with published values from pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 7 TeV and the different pair combinations are found to be consistent. From the observation that the strength of the K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^0_{\rm S}$ correlations is significantly greater than the strength of the K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^\pm$ correlations, the new results are compatible with the $a_0$ resonance being a tetraquark state of the form $(q_1,\overline{q_2}, s, \overline{s})$, where $q_1$ and $q_2$ are $u$ or $d$ quarks.

Polarization of $Λ$ and $\overlineΛ$ hyperons along the beam direction in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

The polarization of the $Λ$ and $\overlineΛ$ hyperons along the beam ($z$) direction, $P_{\rm z}$, has been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02TeV recorded with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The main contribution to $P_{\rm z}$ comes from elliptic flow induced vorticity and can be characterized by the second Fourier sine coefficient $P_{\rm z,s2} = \langle P_{\rm z} \sin(2φ- 2 Ψ_{\rm 2}) \rangle$, where $φ$ is the hyperon azimuthal emission angle, and $Ψ_{\rm 2}$ is the elliptic flow plane angle. We report the measurement of $P_{\rm z,\,{\rm s2}}$ for different collision centralities, and in the 30-50% centrality interval as a function of the hyperon transverse momentum and rapidity. The $P_{\rm z,\,{\rm s2}}$ is positive similarly as measured by the STAR Collaboration in Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV, with somewhat smaller amplitude in the semi-central collisions. This is the first experimental evidence of a non-zero hyperon $P_{\rm z}$ in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The comparison of the measured $P_{\rm z,\,{\rm s2}}$ with the hydrodynamic model calculations shows sensitivity to the competing contributions from thermal and the recently found shear induced vorticity, as well as to whether the polarization is acquired at the quark-gluon plasma or the hadronic phase.
