Model of single-electron performance of micropixel avalanche photodiodes

An approximate iterative model of avalanche process in a pixel of micropixel avalanche photodiode initiated by a single photoelectron is presented. The model describes development of the avalanche process in time, taking into account change of electric field within the depleted region caused by internal discharge and external recharge currents. Conclusions obtained as a result of modelling are compared with experimental data. Simulations show that typical durations of the front and rear edges of the discharge current have the same magnitude of less than 50 ps. The front of the external recharge current has the same duration, however duration of the rear edge depends on value of the quenching micro-resistor. It was found that effective capacitance of the pixel calculated as the slope of linear dependence of the pulse charge on bias voltage exceeds its real capacitance by a factor of two, while the total pixel voltage drop equals twice the value of bias overvoltage.

On possibilities of application of Miller formula for determination of parameters of Micropixel Avalanche Photodiodes

Miller formula modified to take into account voltage drop on serial resistor of an avalanche photodiode is considered. It is proven by experimental data that modified Miller formula can describe operation of both regular and micropixel avalanche photodiodes with good enough precision. It is shown that operation parameters of the devices can be determined using a linear extrapolation of the voltage-current curve for both regular avalanche photodiode and the one operating in Geiger mode.

In-medium modification and decay asymmetry of omega mesons in cold nuclear matter

We discuss an asymmetry of the decay $ω->e^+e^-$ in nuclear matter with respect to the electron and positron energies. This asymmetry is sensitive to the properties of the $ω$ meson self-energy and, in particular, it has a non-trivial dependence on the $ω$ energy and momentum. Therefore, this asymmetry may serve as a powerful tool in studying the properties of the $ω$ meson in the nuclear medium.

Multi-layer scintillation detector for the MOON double beta decay experiment: Scintillation photon responses studied by a prototype detector MOON-1

An ensemble of multi-layer scintillators is discussed as an option of the high-sensitivity detector Mo Observatory Of Neutrinos (MOON) for spectroscopic measurements of neutrino-less double beta decays. A prototype detector MOON-1, which consists of 6 layer plastic-scintillator plates, was built to study the sensitivity of the MOON-type detector. The scintillation photon collection and the energy resolution, which are key elements for the high-sensitivity experiments, are found to be 1835+/-30 photo-electrons for 976 keV electrons and sigma = 2.9+/-0.1% (dE/E = 6.8+/-0.3 % in FWHM) at the Qbb ~ 3 MeV region, respectively. The multi-layer plastic-scintillator structure with good energy resolution as well as good background suppression of beta-gamma rays is crucial for the MOON-type detector to achieve the inverted hierarchy neutrino mass sensitivity.

GRECP/RCC calculation of the spectroscopic constants for the HgH molecule and its cation

Generalized relativistic effective core potential (GRECP) calculations of spectroscopic constants of the HgH molecule ground and low excited states and the HgH+ cation ground state are carried out, with correlation included by the Fock-space relativistic coupled cluster (RCC) method. Basis set superposition errors (BSSE) are estimated and discussed. It is demonstrated that connected triple excitations of the 13 outermost electrons are necessary to obtain accurate results for mercury hydride. Spectroscopic constants derived from potential curves which include these terms are in very good agreement with experiment, with errors of a few mbohr in Re, tens of wavenumbers in excitation energies and vibrational frequencies, and proportionately for other properties. Comparison with previous calculations is also presented.

Is there window for "supersoft" Pomeron in $J/ψ$ photoproduction at low energy?

The low energy $J/ψ$ photoproduction cross-section has been studied on the basis of the Pomeron model. To incorporate the discrepancy between experimental data and the predictionns by the conventional models, i.e. the sum of the soft Pomeron with intercept 1.08 and the hard Pomeron with intercept 1.418, a Regge trajectory associated with a scalar meson (f,a) exchange which we call "supersoft" Pomeron, is introduced additionally. To distinguish between the conventional model and this new additional Pomeron, observations related to other polarization observables in upcoming polarized experiments are discussed.

All-electron Dirac-Coulomb and RECP calculations of excitation energies for mercury atom with combined CI/MBPT2 method

Calculations of transition energies between low-lying states of mercury atom are performed in the frame of combined CI/MBPT2 method. Results of all-electron relativistic calculations (using the Dirac-Coulomb Hamiltonian) are compared with experimental data and results of other four-component calculations. The results of the RECP calculations are compared with the corresponding all-electron results in order to estimate accuracy of different RECPs. Contributions from correlations in different shells to the calculated excitation energies as well as effects of basis set truncation at different orbital angular momenta, nuclear models, errors in gaussian approximation of the GRECP components are reported. Analysis of the obtained results shows that at least 34 external electrons of mercury atom should be correlated and the one-electron basis set should contain up to h angular momentum functions in order to reach a reliable agreement with experimental data within 200 1/cm. It is concluded that correlations of the 4f electrons can be efficiently taken into account for 20 electron GRECP at the generation stage.

Enhancement of the electric dipole moment of the electron in BaF molecule

We report results of ab initio calculation of the spin-rotational Hamiltonian parameters including P- and P,T-odd terms for the BaF molecule. The ground state wave function of BaF molecule is found with the help of the Relativistic Effective Core Potential method followed by the restoration of molecular four-component spinors in the core region of barium in the framework of a non-variational procedure. Core polarization effects are included with the help of the atomic Many Body Perturbation Theory for Barium atom. For the hyperfine constants the accuracy of this method is about 5-10%.
