Type I-II/II-I vortices from dimension-six self-interaction

We show that adding a dimension-six self-interaction to the Abelian-Higgs or Ginzburg Landau model results in a remarkable and rich structure of multi-vortex solutions. Besides the standard type I (attractive) and type II (repulsive) regimes, separated by the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfeld limit (BPS), we identify two new possibilities: type I-II vortices, which attract at short distances and repel at long distances; and type II-I vortices, with the opposite behaviour. Specifically, within the type II-I regime, multi-vortex solutions form chunks of the Abrikosov lattice or clusters. Conversely, in the I-II regime, axially symmetric multi-vortices are stable; nevertheless, depending on the model parameters and topological charge (winding number), they can be either the ground state or not.

Scattering of wobbling vortices

We investigate the dynamical role of internal vibrational modes in the Abelian Higgs model, focusing on how Derrick-type excitations modify vortex dynamics and scattering processes. We study the scattering of excited vortices and show that the interplay between spectral flow and mode excitation generates effective forces and enables resonant energy transfer between translational and internal degrees of freedom. As a result, vortex dynamics become strongly non-adiabatic, exhibiting super-elastic collisions, oscillatory dependence of the final state on initial conditions, and the emergence of fractal structures in scattering diagrams. Our results demonstrate that internal vibrational modes play a fundamental role in vortex interactions, going beyond the standard moduli space approximation and revealing a rich phenomenology driven by mode dynamics.

Oscillons in the broken vacuum and global vortex annihilation

In contrast to the complex $ϕ^4$ model, vortex-antivortex collisions in the complex $ϕ^6$ theory reveal a resonant structure due to the existence of a remarkably stable, long-lived, large amplitude oscillon in the broken vacuum. Surprisingly, it persists despite the absence of a mass gap associated with the flat direction in the broken vacuum. We demonstrate that its existence is related to a far-distance modification of the potential, namely, the appearance of an unbroken (false or true) vacuum.

BPS and semi-BPS kink families in two-component scalar field theories with fourth-degree polynomial potentials

We perform a systematic study of kink solutions in two-component scalar field theories in $(1+1)$ dimensions with interaction terms of at most quartic order. Our approach is based on the Bogomolny formalism, constructing scalar potentials from suitable superpotentials and analyzing the corresponding first-order equations. While cubic polynomial superpotentials naturally generate quartic interactions, we show that more general functional forms also lead to admissible models within the same class. In this way, we identify new models supporting continuous families of kinks with nontrivial internal structure, such that they can be interpreted as composite configurations formed by multiple localized energy lumps.
