Compton scattering by pion: there is no room for the off-shell effects

We show that the off-shell contributions in Compton scattering by pion may exist only in the single exchange diagrams. These contributions are canceled completely in the total gauge-invariant amplitude as it confirmed by one-loop calculations. It explains, in particular, some results of the chiral pertubation theory in the order $p^4$ but this cancelation has no relation to chiral symmetry.

Effect of the unitary mixing scalar--vector

We consider the procedure of dressing of scalar and vector particles when there exists the off--diagonal loop connecting vector and scalar propagators. Instead of single Dyson equations for scalar and vector, we have in this case a system of three equations for coupled full propagators. Using the $π-a_1$ system as an example, we discuss the physical meaning of this effect and the renormalization procedure for coupled propagators. The considered effect of the unitary S~--~V mixing may exits also in the "Higgs boson~--~Z~(~W~)" system for extended electroweak models.

Another look at the angular distributions of the $γγ\toππ$ reactions

We analyze the existing data on the angular distributions of the $γγ\to π^+ π^- ,π^0 π^0$ reactions with using of the unitary model for helicity 2 amplitude. The purpose is to obtain the D--wave parameters and S--wave cross section. We obtain from experiment in the first time the values of $α+ β$ for sum of the electric and magnetic pion's polarizabilities. We found the S-wave cross sections much smaller as compared with previous similar analysis. Comparison of the $γγ\to π^+ π^-$ and $γγ\to π^0 π^0$ data gives an indication for a marked I = 2, J = 2 contribution in region of $f_2(1270)$.

First estimates of the $(α+ β)^π$ from two--photon experiments

We carry out the semi--model analysis of existing data on the angular distributions of the $γγ\rightarrowπ^+ π^- ,\ π^0 π^0$ reactions with purpose to obtain S-wave cross section and D-wave's parameters. In the first time we obtain from experiment the sum of electrical and magnetic pion polarizabilities: $(α+ β)^{π^+} = 0.28 \pm 0.07$ (MARK-II \cite{M2}), \ \ $(α+ β)^{π^+} = 0.38 \pm 0.05$ (CELLO \cite{CELLO}), \ \ $(α+ β)^{π^0} = 1.26 \pm 0.06$ (Crystal Ball \cite{CB}) \ \ in units of $10^{-42} \ cm^3$ ($e^2=4 πα$).

Is the scalar meson seen in CELLO data on $γγ\rightarrowπ^+π^-$ ?

We analyze the CELLO angular distributions $γγ\rightarrowπ^+π^-$ with the unitary model \cite{KS-86} for helicity 2 amplitude. In contrast to previous analysis \cite{CELLO} we do not see any QED damping. The obtained S--wave does not contradict to low--energy theorem and demonstrates more clealy the resonance--like behaviour near 1.3 Gev.

$π^+$ and $π^0$ Polarizabilities from {$γγ\rightarrowππ$} Data on the Base of S-Matrix Approach

We suggest the most model-independent and simple description of the $γγ\rightarrowππ$ process near threshold in framework of S-matrix approach. The amplitudes contain the pion polarizabilities and rather restricted information about $ππ$ interaction. Application of these formulae for description of MARK-II \cite{M2} and Crystal Ball \cite{CB} data gives: $(α-β)^{C}=(6.0\pm 1.2)\cdot 10^{-42} {\rm cm}^{3}$, $(α-β)^{N}=(-1.4\pm 2.1)\cdot 10^{-42} cm^3$ (in units system $e^2 = 4 πα$) at the experimental values of $ππ$ scattering lengths. Both values are compartible with current algebra predictions.
