On the randomness and correlation in the trajectories of alpha particle emitted from ${}^{241}$Am: Statistical inference based on information entropy

Most particle detectors are based on the hypothesis that particles are emitted randomly upon nuclear decay. In the present work, we tested the hypothesis of the existence of correlation in the random trajectories of alpha particles emitted from ${}^{241}$Am source and the null hypothesis of random trajectories. The trajectories were clued through the registration of track in a solid-state nuclear track detector. The experimental parameters were optimized to identify the possible sources of correlation in the track registration and the detector conditions upon exposure and etching to avoid misleading results. The optimization included authentication of linearity in registration efficiency with exposure time to prevent coalescence of registered tracks. The statistical inference processes were based upon adaptive quadrates analysis of the spatial data, and entropy and divergence analysis of the quadrate data together with the null hypothesis of Poisson distribution of random trajectories. The clustering and dispersion analysis were performed with central deviation tendency, empirical K-function, radial distribution analysis, and proximity Analysis. Results showed a pattern of gained information within the registered tracks that may be attributed to the alteration in the alpha particles' trajectories induced by the strong electric field due to atoms in the source compound and encapsulation film.

Principal component analysis within nuclear structure

The principal component analysis (PCA) of different parameters affecting collectivity of nuclei predicted to be candidate of the interacting boson model dynamical symmetries are performed. The results show that, the use of PCA within nuclear structure can give us a simple way to identify collectivity together with the parameters simultaneously affecting it.

Identification of Nuclei Exhibiting the SU(3) Dynamical Symmetry

We consider the possibility of identifying nuclei exhibiting the SU(3) dynamical symmetry as those having excitation energy ratio R4/2 >= 3.25. For this purpose, we consider the level statistics of some of these nuclei and perform interacting boson model (IBM) calculation of level schemes, and electromagnetic transition rates. We show that only some of these nuclei may be considered as good examples of the SU(3) dynamical symmetry.

The effect of nuclear deformation on level statistics

We analyze the nearest neighbor spacing distributions of low-lying 2+ levels of even-even nuclei. We grouped the nuclei into classes defined by the quadrupole deformation parameter (Beta2). We calculate the nearest neighbor spacing distributions for each class. Then, we determine the chaoticity parameter for each class with the help of the Bayesian inference method. We compare these distributions to a formula that describes the transition to chaos by varying a tuning parameter. This parameter appears to depend in a non-trivial way on the nuclear deformation, and takes small values indicating regularity in strongly deformed nuclei and especially in those having an oblate deformation.

Level statistics of deformed even-even nuclei

The nearest neighbor spacing distribution of levels of deformed even-even nuclei classified according to their quadrupole deformation parameter is investigated. The results suggest that the oblate deformed nuclei have more regular spectra than prolate ones.
