Clifford geometric algebra: Real and complex spinor data tables

The modern algebra concepts are used to construct tables of algebraic spinors related to Clifford algebra multivectors with real and complex coefficients. The following data computed by Mathematica are presented in form of tables for individual Clifford geometric algebras: 1. Initial idempotent; 2. Two-sided ideal; 3. Left ideal basis (otherwise projector, or spinor basis); 4. Matrix representations (reps) for basis vectors in Clifford algebras in spinor basis; 5. General spinor; 6. Spinor in matrix form; 7. Squared hermitian norm of the spinor. Earlier in 1998, only the first four items computed by Maple were published by R. Ablamowicz.

Multivector (MV) functions in Clifford algebras of arbitrary dimension: Defective MV case

Explicit formulas to calculate MV functions in a basis-free representation are presented for an arbitrary Clifford geometric algebra Cl(p,q). The formulas are based on analysis of the roots of minimal MV polynomial and covers defective MVs, i.e. the MVs that have non-diagonalizable matrix representations. The method may be generalized straightforwardly to matrix functions and to finite dimensional linear operators. The results can find wide application in Clifford algebra analysis.

Logarithm of multivector in real 3D Clifford algebras

Closed form expressions for a logarithm of general multivector (MV) in base-free form in real geometric algebras (GAs) Cl(p,q) are presented for all n=p+q=3. In contrast to logarithm of complex numbers (isomorphic to Cl(0,1), 3D logarithmic functions, due to appearance of two double angle arc tangent functions, allow to include two sets of sheets characterized by discrete coefficients. Formulas for generic and special cases of individual blades and their combinations are provided.

Coordinate-free exponentials of general multivector (MV) in Cl(p,q) algebras for p+q=3

Closed form expressions in a coordinate-free form in real Clifford geometric algebras (GAs) Cl(0,3), Cl(3,0)$, Cl(1,2) and Cl(2,1) are found for exponential function when the exponent is the most general multivector (MV). The main difficulty in solving the problem is connected with an entanglement or mixing of vector and bivector components. After disentanglement, the obtained formulas simplify to the well-known Moivre-type trigonometric/hyperbolic function for vector or bivector exponentials. The presented formulas may find wide application in solving GA differential equations, in signal processing, automatic control and robotics.

Negative flow of energy in a mechanical wave

A classical system, which is analogous to the quantum one with a backflow of probability, is proposed. The system consists of a chain of masses interconnected by springs, as well attached by other springs to fixed supports. Thanks to the last springs the cutoff frequency and dispersion appears in the spectrum of waves propagating along the chain. It is shown that this dispersion contributes to the appearance of a backflow of energy. In the case of the interference of the two waves, the magnitude of this backflow is an order of magnitude higher than the value of the probability backflow in the mentioned quantum problem. The equation of Green's function is considered, and it is shown that the backflow of energy is also possible when the system is excited by two consecutive short pulses. This classical backflow phenomenon is explained by the branching of energy flow to local modes, what is confirmed by the results for the forced damped oscillator. It is shown that even in such a simple system the backflow of energy takes place (both an instantaneous and on average) and the energy comes back to external force.

Square root of a multivector of Clifford algebras in 3D: A game with signs

An algorithm to extract the square root in radicals from a multivector (MV) in real Clifford algebras Cl(p,q) for n=p+q <=3 is presented. We show that in the algebras Cl(3,0), Cl(1,2) and Cl(0,3) there are up to four isolated roots in a case of the most general (generic) MV. The algebra Cl(2,1) makes up an exception and the MV here can have up to 16 isolated roots. In addition to isolated roots, a continuum of roots can appear in all algebras except p+q=1. A number of examples are provided to illustrate properties of various roots that may appear in n=3 Clifford algebras.

Classical analog to the Airy wave packet

The solution of the Liouville equation for the ensemble of free particles is presented and the classical analog to the quantum accelerating Airy wave packet is constructed and discussed. Considering the motion of various classical packets -- with an infinite and restricted distribution of velocities of particles -- and also the motion of their fronts, we demonstrate in the simplest and most definite way why the packet can display a more sophisticated behavior (even acceleration) as compared with a free individual particle that moves at a fixed velocity. A comparison of this classical solution with the quantum one in the Wigner representation of quantum mechanics which provides the closest analogy is also presented.

Inverse of multivector: Beyond p+q=5 threshold

The algorithm of finding inverse multivector (MV) numerically and symbolically is of paramount importance in the applied Clifford geometric algebra (GA) $Cl_{p,q}$. The first general MV inversion algorithm was based on matrix representation of MV. The complexity of calculations and size of the answer in a symbolic form grow exponentially with the GA dimension $n=p+q$. The breakthrough occurred when D. Lundholm and then P. Dadbeh found compact inverse formulas up to dimension $n\le5$. The formulas were constructed in a form of Clifford product of initial MV and its carefully chosen grade-negation counterparts. In this report we show that the grade-negation self-product method can be extended beyond $n=5$ threshold if, in addition, properly constructed linear combinations of such MV products are used. In particular, we present compact explicit MV inverse formulas for algebras of vector space dimension $n=6$ and show that they embrace all lower dimensional cases as well. For readers convenience, we have also given various MV formulas in a form of grade negations when $n\le5$.

Position-dependent spin-orbit coupling for ultracold atoms

We theoretically explore atomic Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) subject to position-dependent spin-orbit coupling (SOC). This SOC can be produced by cyclically laser coupling four internal atomic ground (or metastable) states in an environment where the detuning from resonance depends on position. The resulting spin-orbit coupled BEC phase-separates into domains, each of which contain density modulations - stripes - aligned either along the x or y direction. In each domain, the stripe orientation is determined by the sign of the local detuning. When these stripes have mismatched spatial periods along domain boundaries, non-trivial topological spin textures form at the interface, including skyrmions-like spin vortices and anti-vortices. In contrast to vortices present in conventional rotating BECs, these spin-vortices are stable topological defects that are not present in the corresponding homogenous stripe-phase spin-orbit coupled BECs.

Interaction of hopfions of charge 1 and 2 from product ansatz

We continue the discussion on the interaction energy of the axially symmetric Hopfions evaluated directly from the product anzsatz. The Hopfions are given by the projection of Skyrme model solutions onto the coset space SU(2)/U(1). Our results show that if the separation between the constituents is not small, the product ansatz can be considered as a good approximation to the general pattern of Hopfions interaction both in repulsive and attractive channel.

Hopfions interaction from the viewpoint of the product ansatz

We discuss the relation between the solutions of the Skyrme model of lower degrees and the corresponding axially symmetric Hopfions which is given by the projection onto the coset space SU(2)/U(1). The interaction energy of the Hopfions is evaluated directly from the product ansatz. Our results show that if the separation between the constituents is not very small, the product ansatz can be considered as a relatively good approximation to the general pattern of the charge one Hopfions interaction both in repulsive and attractive channel.

Hopfion canonical quantization

We study the effect of the canonical quantization of the rotational mode of the charge Q=1 and Q=2 spinning Hopfions. The axially-symmetric solutions are constructed numerically, it is shown the quantum corrections to the mass of the configurations are relatively large.

Closed form solution for a double quantum well using Gröbner basis

Analytical expressions for spectrum, eigenfunctions and dipole matrix elements of a square double quantum well (DQW) are presented for a general case when the potential in different regions of the DQW has different heights and effective masses are different. This was achieved by Gröbner basis algorithm which allows to disentangle the resulting coupled polynomials without explicitly solving the transcendental eigenvalue equation.

Baby Skyrmions stabilized by canonical quantization

We analyse the effect of the canonical quantization of the rotational mode of the O(3) $σ$-model which includes the Skyrme term. Numerical evidence is presented that the quantum correction to the mass of the rotationally-invariant charge $n=1,2$ configurations may stabilize the solution even in the limit of vanishing potential. The corresponding range of values of the parameters is discussed.

The $α$ particle as a canonically quantized multiskyrmion

The rational map approximation to the solution to the SU(2) Skyrme model with baryon number B=4 is canonically quantized. The quantization procedure leads to anomalous breaking of the chiral symmetry, and exponential falloff of the energy density of the soliton at large distances. The model is extended to SU(2) representations of arbitrary dimension. These soliton solutions capture the double node feature of the empirical $α$ particle charge form factor, but as expected lead to a too compact matter distribution. Comparison to phenomenology indicates a preference for the fundamental representation.

The Deuteron as a Canonically Quantized Biskyrmion

The ground state configurations of the solution to Skyrme's topological soliton model for systems with baryon number larger than 1 are well approximated with rational map ansätze, without individual baryon coordinates. Here canonical quantization of the baryon number 2 system, which represents the deuteron, is carried out in the rational map approximation. The solution, which is described by the 6 parameters of the chiral group SU(2)$\times$SU(2), is stabilized by the quantum corrections. The matter density of the variational quantized solution has the required exponential large distance falloff and the quantum numbers of the deuteron. Similarly to the axially symmetric semiclassical solution, the radius and the quadrupole moment are, however, only about half as large as the corresponding empirical values. The quantized deuteron solution is constructed for representations of arbitrary dimension of the chiral group.

Nucleon form factors in the canonically quantized Skyrme model

The explicit expressions for the electric, magnetic, axial and induced pseudoscalar form factors of the nucleons are derived in the {\it ab initio} quantized Skyrme model. The canonical quantization procedure ensures the existence of stable soliton solutions with good quantum numbers. The form factors are derived for representations of arbitrary dimension of the SU(2) group. After fixing the two parameters of the model, $f_π$ and $e$, by the empirical mass and electric mean square radius of the proton, the calculated electric and magnetic form factors are fairly close to the empirical ones, whereas the the axial and induced pseudoscalar form factors fall off too slowly with momentum transfer.
