The K^- αscattering length and the reaction dd \to αK^+ K^-

Abstract

We present predictions for the the K^- αscattering length obtained within the framework of the multiple scattering approach. Evaluating the pole position of the K^- αscattering amplitude within the zero range approximation, we find a loosely bound K^- αstate with a binding energy of E_R = -2 ... -7 MeV and a width Γ_R = 11 ... 18 MeV. We propose to measure the K^- αscattering length through the final state interaction between the αand K^- meson produced in the reaction dd \to αK^+ K^-. It is found that the K^-αinvariant mass distribution from this reaction at energies near the threshold provides a new tool to determine the s-wave K^- αscattering length.

Inclusive Neutral-Kaon Photoproduction on the Deuteron

We report on our study of inclusive neutral-kaon photoproduction on the deuteron, $d(γ,K^0)YN$, for photon energies between 0.9 and 1.1 GeV. The calculation is performed in the impulse approximation, with the deuteron wave function generated from the Bonn One-Boson-Exchange-Potential in $q$-space (OBEPQ) within a non-relativistic framework, while the kinematics and the elementary operator are kept relativistic. For the elementary operator we employ a recently developed isobar model that includes high-spin nucleon and $Δ$ resonances and has been constrained by nearly 20,000 data points, and we compare its predictions systematically with those of the Kaon-Maid model. For the first time, the NKS1 and NKS2 data are subjected to a quantitative analysis within a modern elementary production framework. The New Operator provides a considerably better description of the data, whereas Kaon-Maid overestimates the measured cross section by up to a factor of four at the higher photon energies, a discrepancy that can be traced back to its unconstrained $γn \to K^0Λ$ amplitude. We further show that the finite photon-energy and kaon-angle bins of the existing measurements generate a theoretical uncertainty comparable to the difference between the two models, so that a proper comparison with the data requires the calculation to be averaged over the experimental acceptance. A three-dimensional mapping of the cross section over the kaon momentum and angle reveals a narrow quasi-free ridge, accompanied by a second structure associated with the opening of the $Σ$ channels, from which we identify the kinematics most favorable for future measurements. Finally, the tensor target asymmetries are found to be far less sensitive to the elementary operator than the cross section, and therefore probe the nuclear dynamics in a way that is complementary to the cross section.

Dissipative spin hydrodynamics in Bjorken flow and thermal dilepton production

We investigate the boost-invariant expansion of a recently developed first-order spin hydrodynamic framework in which the spin chemical potential is treated as a leading-order hydrodynamic variable. Considering a symmetric energy-momentum tensor and a separately conserved spin tensor, we derive the coupled evolution equations for the medium temperature and the independent components of the spin chemical potential in the presence of both viscous and spin-diffusive transport coefficients. For a boost-invariant system, only the magnetic-like components of the spin chemical potential survive, and their evolution is shown to depend sensitively on the spin transport coefficients. The transverse spin components decay more rapidly due to spin dissipation, while the longitudinal component survives for a longer duration. We further demonstrate that the evolution of the spin degrees of freedom modifies the temperature profile of the expanding medium. Using the resulting temperature profiles, we calculate thermal dilepton production rates from quark-antiquark annihilation. We find that the presence of spin dynamics enhances the dilepton yield relative to standard dissipative hydrodynamics, with the magnitude of the enhancement depending on the spin transport coefficients. Within the simplified hydrodynamic evolution considered here, our results qualitatively indicate that thermal dileptons can possibly provide an indirect probe of spin dynamics and spin transport in the quark-gluon plasma.

Direct Calculation of the Two-Neutrino Double-Beta Decay Rate Including the Full Lepton-Energy Dependence

The calculation of the two-neutrino double-beta decay (DBD) rates has so far relied on approximations that decouple the nuclear structure from the emitted lepton kinematics. To ensure a more rigorous treatment, we propose an approach which incorporates the full interdependence between nuclear structure and lepton kinematics within a unified formula and performs calculations without resorting to these approximations. Deviations of the decay rates and electron spectra from the traditional methods, such as closure, non-closure, and Taylor expansion approximations, are presented and discussed for the isotopes $^{82}$Se and $^{136}$Xe. Our approach gives a more realistic description of the DBD process and paves the way for further theoretical and experimental investigations into the correlated nuclear structure interplay with emitted lepton kinematics contributing to the dynamics of the process. Extensions of this framework to other isotopes and to neutrinoless double-beta decay are currently underway.
