Heterotic String Thermofield Dynamics

Abstract

Physical aspects of the thermofield dynamics of the D=10 heterotic thermal string theory are exemplified through the infrared behaviour of the one-loop dual symmetric cosmological constant in association with the global phase structure of the thermal string ensemble.

Giant graviton integrated correlators at finite coupling and all orders in $1/N$

We study the giant graviton integrated correlator in SU$(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills at finite complexified coupling $τ$. Despite the formidable complexity arising from the heavy nature of the operators considered, the large-$N$ expansion simplifies dramatically and exhibits manifest modular invariance. At each order in $1/N$, the expansion coefficients are linear combinations of non-holomorphic Eisenstein series thus capturing the full spectrum of perturbative and non-perturbative effects in the Yang-Mills coupling. Furthermore, we find additional contributions which are modular functions exponentially suppressed in $N$. In the 't Hooft limit, this yields an all-orders result in the $1/N$ expansion at arbitrary coupling $λ$, extending beyond prior results of leading orders. For the U$(N)$ theory, we obtain a closed-form expression valid for all $N$ and $τ$, and show that the coupling-dependent sector of the large-$N$ expansion is universal between SU$(N)$ and U$(N)$ to all orders. Crucially, we exploit the integrated correlator constraints and determine the giant graviton correlator itself to two-loop order at finite $N$, previously only accessible in the planar limit.

Large-$N$ Carrollian Thermodynamics from AdS Black-Hole Phase-Space Contractions

We develop the boundary large-rank interpretation of finite Carrollian black-hole thermodynamics and its sourced stress, scalar spectral and interacting thermal observables. Correlated scaling of the time generator and Newton coupling preserves the extended Hamiltonian differential while the generator temperature vanishes and the holographic normalization grows. The Brown--York source variation fixes the relative weights of energy density, momentum density and spatial stress, giving Ward equations on the Carrollian and thermal time scales. Boundary volume and normalization variations reproduce the bulk pressure work and characterize the Hawking--Page crossing through a chemical potential. Source coupling fixes the scalar operator map and spectral clock Jacobian. Numerical solutions in four-dimensional Schwarzschild-AdS determine angular transmission and finite-frequency absorption. In the type IIB family, the logarithmic scrambling interval imposes an additional hierarchy between rank and 't Hooft coupling. We derive a correlated limit in which the string length vanishes while a finite transverse Regge kernel survives in the normalized four-point functional. Its integrated attenuation and spatial width obey a common relation. This interacting observable distinguishes large-rank sequences with the same leading thermodynamics and asymptotic Regge growth rate. Thermal Fourier--Mellin moments retain the scalar spectrum in a contracting frequency window. Time translations shift their weights with angular source terms retained. The BTZ dictionary supplies the corresponding large-central-charge equilibrium example.

Coarse-Graining and Long-Range Response in Generated Systems

Coarse-graining should retain the response to the perturbations and observations of interest. We study this requirement for systems defined by generating operations and observation maps. Equality of all allowed future outputs defines an observation-sufficient quotient; fibre consistency gives differentiable descent for bounded surjective linear maps between Banach spaces. Linearising the state equation and the observation together produces a response whose kernel, source, readout and direct term transform consistently under coarse-graining. We derive an exact comparison identity valid also for noninvertible coarse maps. Eliminating residual states yields a memory representation and, under decay bounds, controlled finite-memory approximations. For isolated critical modes, analytic Fredholm theory gives the pole and visibility conditions; reciprocal realisations with a positive crossing matrix have positive finite-rank residues. An arithmetic merge and a reflecting heat protocol illustrate these results by explicit calculations. Gaussian averaging and quantum-field-theory channels provide further realisations, including the identification of response poles with vacuum spectral atoms under matched spectral hypotheses.
