Determination of the Bjorken Sum and Strong Coupling from Polarized Structure Functions

Abstract

We present a NLO perturbative analysis of all available data on the polarized structure function g_1(x,Q^2) with the aim of making a quantitative test of the validity of the Bjorken sum rule, of measuring α_s, and of deriving helicity fractions. We take particular care over the small x extrapolation, since it is now known that Regge behaviour is unreliable at perturbative scales. For fixed α_s we find that if all the most recent data are included g_A=1.18\pm0.09, confirming the Bjorken sum rule at the 8% level. We further show that the value of α_s is now reasonably well constrained by scaling violations in the structure function data, despite the fact that it cannot yet be reliably fixed by the value of the Bjorken sum: our final result is α_s(m_Z) = 0.120+0.010-0.008. We also confirm earlier indications of a sizeable positive gluon polarization in the nucleon.

Flavon assisted low scale leptogenesis

Low-scale leptogenesis scenarios, such as the resonant leptogenesis, typically require a highly degenerate mass spectrum of right-handed neutrinos (RHNs). This requirement can be circumvented by extending the seesaw framework with a scalar singlet $S$ that couples to RHNs via the $S N^{}_I N^{}_J$ terms (with $I \neq J$), which opens up new decay channels $N^{}_I \to N^{}_J S$ and provides additional sources of CP violation, thereby enabling successful leptogenesis at the TeV scale without the need for mass degeneracy. In this work, for the first time, we point out that the flavon fields, which are introduced in many flavor-symmetry neutrino mass models to be responsible for the generation of RHN masses through the acquisition of non-zero vacuum expectation values, serve as ideal candidates for the $S$ field. Taking as an example a flavor-symmetry neutrino mass model that naturally realizes the experimentally allowed TM1 mixing pattern and has the attractive features that only one flavon field plays the role of $S$ and that it couples to only two RHNs, we demonstrate that the observed neutrino masses and mixing angles can be consistently reproduced, while the observed baryon asymmetry can be achieved within a parameter space compatible with current experimental constraints.

EasyScan_HEP 2: LLM-Agent Parameter-Scan Workflows in High Energy Physics

Large-language-model (LLM) agents are beginning to reshape the preparation and steering of computational workflows in high-energy physics phenomenology. To accommodate this change, we upgrade EasyScan_HEP to make the construction of parameter-scan configuration files more accessible to LLM-agent assistance. EasyScan_HEP 2 exposes command-line and machine-readable interfaces for LLM-agent workflows, allowing an assistant to translate natural language requests into an explicit .ini configuration that defines the scan method, external-program workflow, constraints, and outputs. The resulting configuration can be inspected through a local Web interface. The framework also supports LLM-agent-guided extension to new scan methods, as illustrated by the integration of BESTFIT, EMCEE, and DYNESTY. In this way, EasyScan_HEP 2 adapts parameter-scan workflows to LLM-agent use while preserving reproducibility, transparency, and user control.

Holographic Soliton Crystals for Dense Nuclear Matter and Neutron Stars

We construct a nuclear-matter equation of state (EOS) from holographic QCD in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto (WSS) model, going beyond the homogeneous ansatz by building dense baryonic matter more directly from the solitonic description of holographic baryons. Employing the two-baryon interaction potential obtained from the linearized soliton tails sourced in the curved background by point-like (core) instantons, we assemble an infinite face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal with nearest neighbors in the most attractive channel as an approximation to the quantum liquid of baryons and compute the energy density $\mathcal{E}(n_B)$, the chemical potential $μ_B$, and the pressure $P$. We calibrate the symmetric-matter EOS by fixing the 't Hooft coupling $λ$ and the WSS scale $M_{\rm KK}$ to saturation-density and onset-chemical-potential properties, and by including a quark-mass term to reproduce the physical pion mass $m_π=135\,\mathrm{MeV}$. This fit turns out to remain reasonably close to the parameters required by the vacuum meson sector, while their modification is consistent with Brown-Rho scaling in a dense medium, and the incompressibility at saturation is of the correct order of magnitude, both in clear contrast to the homogeneous approximation. We then extend to beta-equilibrated matter, using phenomenological input for the symmetry energy, and obtain hybrid EOS and neutron-star observables that are compatible with the NICER constraints.
