Consequence of the Wigner Rotation: Perturbative QCD Analysis of the Pion Form Factor

Abstract

We analyse the perturbative contributions from the higher helicity ($λ_{1}+λ_{1}=\pm 1$) components, which should be naturally contained in the light-cone wave function for the pion as a consequence of the Wigner rotation, in the QCD calculation of the pion form factor. It is pointed out that the contributions may provide the other fraction needed to fit the pion form factor data besides the perturbative contributions from the ordinary helicity components evaluated using the factorization formula with the asymptotic form of the distribution amplitude. We suggest a way to test the higher helicity state contributions.

Anatomy of RHN DM relic in the vanilla scotogenic neutrino mass model

The scotogeneic neutrino mass models are very popular choices to generate light neutrino masses via radiative mechanism. In these models, the particles running in the loop are distinguished from the standard model due to an imposed $\mathcal{Z}_2$ symmetry under which the loop particles are odd. Therefore, the lightest particle running in the loop can be a viable dark matter candidate. In this paper, we revisit the minimal scotogenic neutrino mass model and study the anatomy of right handed neutrino (RHN) DM relic, taking into account contributions from self-annihilation, co-annihilation, conversion-driven processes, as well as production via the freeze-in mechanism. We impose the constraints from direct detection and collider searches of DM including anomalous magnetic moment of muon, charged lepton flavor violation and low-energy neutrino oscillation data to show that the lightest RHN can be a viable DM in the mass range: $M_{h}/2\lesssim M_{\rm DM}\lesssim2000 {\rm GeV}$ (thermal DM) and $0.1 ~{\rm GeV}\lesssim M_{\rm DM}\lesssim 1000 {\rm GeV}$ (non-thermal DM), where $M_h$ denotes the Standard Model Higgs mass and $M_{\rm DM}$ is the RHN dark matter mass. We also find the displaced vertex signatures of long lived particles which can be probed at future colliders.

Measuring Ultralight-Axion Coherence with Galaxy Polarization Correlations

Ultralight axion-like particles coupled to photons rotate the linear polarization of distant sources. We propose using the three-dimensional two-point correlation of galaxy polarization-rotation angles to measure not only the amplitude of this birefringence field but also its spatial coherence scale. For a nonrelativistic ALP component with an isotropic Gaussian velocity distribution, the equal-time field correlation has an $e^{-1}$ scale $L_{\rm G}^{\rm phys}=\sqrt{6}/(m_a v_a)$, where $v_a$ is the three-dimensional rms ALP velocity dispersion. A detected turnover in the galaxy-pair correlation therefore measures the characteristic momentum scale $m_a v_a$, while the correlation amplitude constrains $g_{aγ}\sqrt{Ω_a/Ω_{\rm DM}}$. For a fiducial survey with $10^6$ polarized galaxies over a quarter of the sky to $z=2$ and effective per-galaxy scatter $σ_{\rm tot}=10^\circ$, we find $5σ$ sensitivity to sub-degree correlated rotations over $m_a(10^{-3}c/v_a)\sim10^{-29}$--$10^{-27}\,{\rm eV}$, with $σ[\log_{10}(m_a v_a)]\lesssim0.1$ for detected signals across much of this range. This provides a geometric late-time probe complementary to CMB birefringence and structure-formation constraints.

Orbital angular momentum at small $x$ in the large $N_c\&N_f$ limit

We extend the small-$x$ analysis of the quark and gluon orbital angular momentum (OAM) distributions in the proton from the large-$N_c$ limit considered in our earlier works to the large-$N_c\&N_f$ limit, in which the numbers of quark colors $N_c$ and flavors $N_f$ are large with their ratio held fixed. Working in the double-logarithmic approximation (DLA), summing powers of $α_s \ln^2(1/x)$ with $α_s$ the strong coupling and $x$ the proton's momentum fraction carried by a parton, we correct the small-$x$ operator expression for the quark OAM distribution suggested earlier in \cite{Kovchegov:2024wjs} and relate both the quark and gluon OAM distributions to the impact-parameter moments of the polarized dipole amplitudes. We derive the large-$N_c\&N_f$ evolution equations for these moment amplitudes in the DLA; these include a new equation for the moment amplitude governing the quark OAM. We then solve these evolution equations numerically together with the helicity evolution for $N_f = 2,3,4,5,6$ and $N_c =3$. We find that, similar to the large-$N_c$ case, the OAM distributions share a common small-$x$ intercept with the helicity distributions, $L_{q+\bar{q}}(x,Q^2) \sim L_G(x,Q^2) \sim ΔΣ(x,Q^2) \sim ΔG(x,Q^2) \sim \left(\frac{1}{x} \right)^{α_h}$ with the intercept $α_h \approx {3.48 \sqrt{α_s N_c/2π}}$ for $N_f = N_c = 3$ (cf.~\cite{Borden:2025ehe}): this result, along with $α_h$ for other values of $N_f \neq 0$ that we studied, is smaller than the intercept of $3.66\sqrt{α_s N_c/2π}$ found in the large-$N_c$ limit. We also compute the ratios of the OAM distributions to the helicity parton distribution functions as $x\to 0$, obtaining $L_{q+\bar{q}}(x,Q^2)/ΔΣ(x,Q^2) = -1$ and $L_G(x,Q^2)/ΔG(x,Q^2) = -2$ at $Q^2=10\, \mathrm{GeV}^2$, with both ratios being independent of $N_f$.
