The minimum width condition for neutrino conversion in matter

Abstract

We find that for small vacuum mixing angle $θ$ and low energies ($s\ll M^2_Z$) the width of matter, $d_{1/2}$, needed to have conversion probability $P\geq 1/2$ should be larger than $d_{min}= π/(2\sqrt{2} G_{F} \tan 2 θ)$: $d_{1/2}\geq d_{min}$. Here $G_F$ is the Fermi constant, $s$ is the total energy squared in the center of mass and $M_Z$ is the mass of the $Z$ boson. The absolute minimum $d_{1/2}=d_{min}$ is realized for oscillations in a uniform medium with resonance density. For all the other density distributions (monotonically varying density, castle wall profile, etc.) the required width $d_{1/2}$ is larger than $d_{min}$. The width $d_{min}$ depends on $s$, and for $Z$-resonance channels at $s\sim M^2_Z$ we get that $d_{min}(s)$ is 20 times smaller than the low energy value. We apply the minimum width condition, $d\geq d_{min}$, to high energy neutrinos in matter as well as in neutrino background. Using this condition, we conclude that the matter effect is negligible for neutrinos propagating in AGN and GRBs environments. Significant conversion can be expected for neutrinos crossing dark matter halos of clusters of galaxies and for neutrinos produced by cosmologically distant sources and propagating in the universe.

On the Origin of QCD Collectivity in High-Multiplicity Jets: A Transport Model Study

The CMS Collaboration has observed an enhancement of elliptic azimuthal anisotropy ($v^{\ast}_2$) in high-multiplicity jets. To investigate its microscopic origin, we employ a hybrid transport model that couples jets generated with \textsc{PYTHIA~8} to partonic and hadronic rescattering. The analysis is performed in the jet frame, where the jet momentum defines the longitudinal axis. We characterize the initial-state geometry using the eccentricity vectors of shower partons and quantify the geometric response by correlating them with the final-state flow vectors of hadrons. By systematically varying the partonic and hadronic interactions, we find that the anisotropy enhancement is dominated by hadronic rescattering in the present model and increases with the initial eccentricity. We further classify jets using the Soft Drop variable $z_gθ_g^β$ and show that this momentum-space substructure variable is sensitive to the initial coordinate-space geometry, although the predicted substructure dependence differs from the current CMS measurement. These results support a geometry--response mechanism for collective behavior inside jets and establish jet substructure as a promising experimental handle on the initial geometry. They also motivate models that treat parton branching and transport interactions concurrently.

Phenomenological Study of Lepton Flavor Violation in Z Boson Decays with Constrained MSSM Extended by Type-II Seesaw Model

In this work, we study the lepton flavor violation (LFV) of Z boson decays in the framework of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM) extended by the type-II seesaw model. The branching ratios of $Z\longrightarrow l_i l_j$ decays are calculated in this model. Here, $l_i$ and $l_j$ are different flavor charged leptons. After fitting to the experimental mass limits of the neutrino and supersymmetric particles, we have found that the branching ratios for LFV decays of Z boson are in the order of $6 \times {10}^{-10}$ for $e μ$ channel and of $1 \times {10}^{-9}$ for both $τμ$ and $τe$ decay channels. Considering recent experimental constraints on $l_{i}\rightarrow l_{j} γ$ decays, the branching ratios for LFV decays of Z boson get an additional suppression of $10^{-8}$ for $e μ$ channel and of $10^{-3}$ for both $τμ$ and $τe$ decay channels. The branching ratios theoretical predictions are several orders below the recent experimental limits for both scenarios, which give a very low probability to observe the LFV decays of Z boson in the future experiments.

The Masses of Fermions in the context of the Supersymmetric $SU(3)_{C}\times SU(3)_{L}\times U(1)_{N}$ Model

We will study in details the masses spectrum of fermions of the Minimal Supersymmetric $SU(3)_{C}\times SU(3)_{L}\times U(1)_{N}$ Model. We will consider the case in which all the usual neutral scalars fields of this model obtain vacuum expectation values, in both case when we have $R$-parity conservation, respect the invariance of the quantum number, ${\cal F}\equiv B+L$, where $B$ is the baryon number while $L$ is the total lepton number, and the oppposite ones, it means $R$-parity violation. We will present numerical predictions for all the fermions of this model, we will show that all masses and mixing angles are in agreement with current experimental data.
