Renormalization of Bilinear Quark Operators for Overlap Fermions

Abstract

We present non-perturbative renormalization constants of fermionic bilinears on the lattice in the quenched approximation at beta=6.1 using an overlap fermion action with hypercubic(HYP)-blocked links. We consider the effects of the exact zero modes of the Dirac operator and find they are important in calculating the renormalization constants of the scalar and pseudoscalar density. The results are given in the RI' and MS bar schemes and compared to the perturbative calculations.

Gauge-Covariant Wavelets for Quark-Propagator Sparsening and Distillation in Lattice QCD

We develop a novel gauge-covariant wavelet framework for computing hadronic correlation functions in lattice QCD. Two complementary approaches connect spatial localization and resolution-scale separation to propagator sparsening and distillation. A gauge-covariant fast wavelet transform, based on compactly supported biorthogonal filters, coarse-grains quark propagators and reduces early-time excited-state contamination relative to direct decimation at equal spatial reduction. A second construction applies a resolvent filter of the spatial covariant Laplacian to localized sources, generating a distillation subspace without computing Laplacian eigenpairs. We detail its gauge covariance, smearing profiles, and implementation in exact and stochastic distillation. Spatial localization enables unbiased Hansen-Hurwitz sampling of hadronic contractions, reducing their computational cost substantially. We also examine momentum aliasing induced by fixed coarse grids and the use of random grid shifts to remove unwanted contributions in expectation. Numerical benchmarks of the proposed methods are performed with single hadrons, the I = 2 two-pion system, the deuteron channel, and boosted nucleons. The extracted energy levels agree very well with full or conventional distillation calculations within statistical uncertainties. We quantify the costs of on-demand basis construction and contractions, demonstrate contraction speedups at comparable statistical precision. These studies establish a practical foundation of wavelet-based propagator compression and operator construction for multi-operator calculations of hadronic and nuclear systems, particularly at larger lattice volumes.

Two-nucleon scattering amplitudes at light quark masses from lattice QCD

We present a lattice-QCD determination of nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitudes at pion masses of $M_π\approx 200$ MeV and $M_π\approx 280$ MeV at a single lattice spacing $a \approx 0.064$ fm on two CLS ensembles. The finite-volume energy spectra are extracted from large Hermitian correlation matrices constructed within the distillation framework using an extensive basis of two-nucleon interpolating operators. To reliably relate the finite-volume spectra to the infinite-volume scattering amplitudes, we employ two recently developed formalisms that explicitly account for the long-range interaction generated by one-pion exchange: the plane-wave quantization condition and the relativistic left-hand-cut formalism. We discuss the quark-mass dependence of the nucleon-nucleon scattering lengths, effective ranges, shape parameters and pole positions. At all pion masses considered, our analysis prefers virtual states in both isospin channels by more than $1σ$. Comparing also results from our previous calculation at $M_π\approx 710$ MeV, we observe that the inverse scattering lengths and binding momenta approach their physical-point phenomenological values monotonically as the pion mass is varied.

Impact of Irrep Truncations on Quantum Simulations of QCD

Quantum simulations of lattice gauge theories with continuous gauge groups require a choice of basis (how states of the gauge theory map to the qubit computational basis) and truncation scheme (which of the infinitely many gauge theory basis states should be omitted in the map to the finite dimensional qubit Hilbert space.) The most common choices are adapted to an electric basis for the gauge theory, where the basis states for each link are associated with irreducible representations of the gauge group. Electric bases and truncations are generally advantageous for preserving gauge symmetries and simulating the strong coupling regime, but their effectiveness in the weak coupling regimes of physical interest are less well understood. In this work, we compute relative probabilities $p(R')/p(R)$ for finding a link in the irreps $R,R'$ in the ground state of SU(3) lattice gauge theory using Euclidean Monte Carlo methods and weak-coupling lattice perturbation theory. The observables that compute these relative probabilities are constructed by introducing seams into an anisotropic lattice, and by a similar construction we are also able to measure relative probabilities of different site singlets (ways that electric flux braids together into a gauge singlet) at each vertex. With these methods we can quantify, for example, the importance of higher electric flux states in the weak coupling ground state. These results directly inform what truncations are needed to accurately capture non-abelian gauge dynamics near the continuum limit.
