Endomorphisms of B(H), extensions of pure states, and a class of representations of O_n

Abstract

Let F_n be the fixed-point algebra of the gauge action of the circle on the Cuntz algebra O_n. For every pure state ρof F_n and every representation θof C(T) we construct a representation of O_n, and we use the resulting class of representations to parameterize the space of all states of O_n which extend ρ. We show that the gauge group acts transitively on the pure extensions of ρand that the action is p-to-1 with p the period of ρunder the usual shift. We then use the above representations of O_n to construct endomorphisms of B(H) which we classify up to conjugacy in terms of the parameters ρand θ. In particular our construction yields every ergodic endomorphism αwhose tail algebra $\bigcap_kα^k(B(H))$ has a minimal projection, and our results classify these ergodic endomorphisms by an equivalence relation on the pure states of F_n. As examples we analyze the ergodic endomorphisms arising from periodic pure product states of F_n, for which we are able to give a geometric complete conjugacy invariant, generalizing results of Stacey, Laca, and Bratteli-Jorgensen-Price on the shifts of Powers.

Tensor Products of Fell Bundles over Groups

We extend the theory of tensor products of C*-algebras to the larger category of Fell bundles over locally compact groups. We prove that, like in the case of C*-algebras, there exist maximal and minimal tensor products. Given two Fell bundles, we compare the tensor products of their cross-sectional algebras with the cross-sectional algebras of their tensor products. As applications we prove that, under certain conditions, the cross-sectional C*-algebra of a Fell bundle is nuclear or exact whenever so is its fiber over the unit element of the group.

Isomorphism classes for quantum Heisenberg manifolds

We embed the quantum Heisenberg manifold in a crossed product algebra. This enables us to show that, in the irrational case, all tracial states on $\dc$ induce the same homomorphism on the K_0-group. We conclude that two irrational quantum Heisenberg manifolds $\dc$ and $D^c_{μ' ν'}$ are isomorphic if and only if the parameters $(μ,ν)$ and $(μ',ν')$ belong to the same orbit under the usual action of $GL_2(\ZZ)$ on the torus.

Quantum Mechanics and Operator algebras on the Hilbert ball

Cirelli, Manià and Pizzocchero generalized quantum mechanics by Kähler geometry. Furthermore they proved that any unital C$^{*}$-algebra is represented as a function algebra on the set of pure states with a noncommutative $*$-product as an application. The ordinary quantum mechanics is regarded as a dynamical system of the projective Hilbert space ${\cal P}({\cal H})$ of a Hilbert space ${\cal H}$. The space ${\cal P}({\cal H})$ is an infinite dimensional Kähler manifold of positive constant holomorphic sectional curvature. In general, such dynamical system is constructed for a general Kähler manifold of nonzero constant holomorphic sectional curvature $c$. The Hilbert ball $B_{\cal H}$ is defined by the open unit ball in ${\cal H}$ and it is a Kähler manifold with $c<0$. We introduce the quantum mechanics on $B_{\cal H}$. As an application, we show the structure of the noncommutative function algebra on $B_{\cal H}$.
