Covariant Wigner function and spin polarization of the Rarita-Schwinger field

Abstract

We study the covariant Wigner function for the spin-$3/2$ Rarita-Schwinger field and its relation to the spin density matrix and the mean spin polarization vector. We obtain a formula relating the covariant Wigner function to the mean spin vector for a weakly interacting field. We then calculate the mean spin vector induced by thermal vorticity, thermal shear, and spin potential at local thermal equilibrium in the Belinfante, canonical and GLW pseudo-gauges. The resulting formula can be used to predict the spin polarization of spin-$3/2$ hadrons, such as the $Ω^-$, in heavy-ion collisions. Differences in the thermal-shear induced polarization in the canonical and Belinfante pseudo-gauges make it possible to use local spin polarization measurements of the $Ω^-$ to discriminate between the two pseudo-gauges.

Numerical study of the three-boson bound-state problem in partial-wave and vector-variable formulations

We present a systematic benchmark of the three-boson bound-state problem in momentum space, comparing one-dimensional (1D) spectator-amplitude, two-dimensional (2D) partial-wave, and three-dimensional (3D) vector-variable formulations. The benchmark controls the interaction representation by embedding the same finite partial-wave interaction space in each formulation, so that discrepancies reflect discretization, interpolation, and quadrature errors. This enables direct 1D--2D--3D comparisons for separable interactions, controlled 2D--3D tests for local interactions, and comparison with the full local interaction in the 3D vector-variable formulation. Binding energies agree at the $10^{-6}$~MeV level for the separable interactions. For the local interactions at $l_{\rm max}=12$, the 2D--3D differences are $2.2\times10^{-6}$~MeV for MT-V and $5.3\times10^{-5}$~MeV for MT-IV. The 2D and 3D equations are also solved in both $t$-matrix-driven and bare-potential-driven forms, whose agreement validates the permutation geometry, quadrature, and interpolation. Fourier transforms to coordinate space yield consistent norm decompositions and spatial observables, providing an independent check of the momentum-space solutions.

Transport simulations with a constrained momentum-dependent chiral mean-field equation of state at various isospin fractions

We present a comparison of the UrQMD model using a chiral mean field EoS (CMF) with flow and pion production data in heavy ion collisions at low beam energies $E_{\mathrm{lab}}=0.2-2.0 A$ GeV and varying iso-spin fraction. The CMF model parameters are constrained by known properties of the high density equation of state of QCD at varying iso-spin fractions. This allows us to calculate the equation of state as well as nuclear interactions for different physical systems like neutron stars and heavy ion collisions in a consistent way. It is found that heavy ion reactions at the upcoming FAIR facility will only have marginal sensitivity on the iso-spin dependence of the high-density equation of state. At lower beam energies, comparing to FOPI, HADES and S$π$rit data, the sensitivity is higher but the observed deviations and systematic uncertainties of the existing data are larger than the sensitivity to the symmetry energy.

Accelerator neutrinos as a probe of in-medium hyperon potentials

Charged-current (anti)neutrino interactions create Lambda and Sigma hyperons inside the nucleus, so the hyperons that reach a detector have crossed nuclear matter and carry the imprint of the in-medium potentials U_Y(rho) that also govern the appearance of hyperons in neutron stars. In the StrangeMC simulation of argon, the reconstructed Lambda yield and momentum and a kaon-vetoed Sigma+ tag respond to U_Lambda and U_Sigma at SBND and DUNE energies. A detector-level forecast, with the production cross sections, fluxes and efficiencies as nuisance parameters and the muon kinematics calibrating the production model, determines U_Lambda at rho* = 0.82 rho_0, independently of the low-density exponent of the potential, to 1.5 MeV statistically and +-31 MeV in total. The largest item, 18 MeV, is the convention by which the cascade applies the potential. The measurement is a check, with different systematics, of the hypernuclear constraint, +-3.3 MeV at rho*, for momentum-independent potentials; U_Sigma is not determined. In the relativistic mean-field equations of state GM1 and FSU2H, anchored to the hypernuclear and Sigma-atom depths, the maximum neutron-star mass depends on the Lambda NN repulsion, which these data do not constrain.
