Homotopy operations on higher Lie algebras

Abstract

We determine the multiplicative structures of the homotopy operations on derived Lie algebras, derived restricted Lie algebras and partition Lie algebras, as well as the relation between these. Under Koszul duality, this follows from a calculation of the homotopy operations on derived rings, p-truncated algebras and divided power algebras over $\mathbb{F}_p$.

On the rank of the double cohomology of moment-angle complexes

In [6], the authors construct a cochain complex $C\!H^*(\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{K}})$ on the cohomology of a moment-angle complex $\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{K}}$ and call the resulting cohomology the double cohomology, $H\!H^*(\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{K}})$. In this paper, we study the change of rank in double cohomology after gluing an $n$-simplex to a simplicial complex $\mathcal{K}$ in certain conditions. As an application, we give a positive answer to an open problem in [6]: For any even integer $r$, there always exists a simlicial complex $\mathcal{K}$ such that $\operatorname{rank} H\!H^*(\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{K}})=r$.

Equivariant formality and representation theory

Let $G$ be a compact connected Lie group and $K$ its connected Lie subgroup. Using the $K$-theoretic version of equivariant formality developed in [F2] which involves analysis of vector bundles over $G/K$, we find two characterizations of equivariant formality of the isotropy action of $K$ on $G/K$. The first one equates equivariant formality with a "smoothness" condition of the restriction map of the representation ring of $G$ to that of $K$. The second characterization asserts that equivariant formality amounts to the equivariant $K$-theoretic index pairing of two certain special $K$-theory classes being nontrivial in some sense. By applying these characterizations, we are able to give a representation theoretic criterion for equivariant formality of the isotropy action by a circle subgroup, as well as an invariant theory criterion for the case where $K$ is a torus of dimension one less than the rank of $G$, culminating in a complete classification of equivariant formality where $G$ is further assumed to be simple.

The Art of Toda Brackets-A Journey through the Homotopy Groups of SO(n) in degrees 23-29

This book has several fundamental aims, one of which is to serve as a reference book for computing unstable homotopy groups using methods of the Toda school. The Toda bracket serves the art of constructing homotopy liftings and extensions of maps. It plays a fundamental role in dealing with composition relations of homotopy classes. This book brings together in Appendix A.3 all known results on the $2$-primary components of unstable homotopy groups of spheres obtained using the art of Toda brackets as the principal tool, with explicit generators. It also explains in Appendix A.2 the conventions used to name the generators. The book mainly presents calculations of the $2$-primary components of the homotopy groups $π_i(\mathit{SO}(n))$ for all $23\leq i\leq 28$ and all $n,$ as well as some $π_{29}(\mathit{SO}(n)),$ with explicit generators, while retaining two possible group structures for $π_{28}(\mathit{SO}(11)).$ In degree $29,$ the cases $7\leq n\leq14$ remain under investigation. The odd-primary components of the homotopy groups $π_i(\mathit{SO}(n))$ in the above range can be computed with little effort; these computations essentially amount to looking up the relevant entries in existing tables.
