ePNGCAT: the first eROSITA all-sky data release
Abstract
The eROSITA telescope array aboard the joint German--Russian Spektrum-Roentgen-Gamma (SRG) mission delivered the deepest soft all-sky X-ray survey to date, scanning the entire sky more than four times between December 2019 and February 2022. The potential of the survey remains, however, hampered by the fact that only data for the half of the sky owned by the German consortium have been released publicly, whereas the other half remains accessible only to the Russian consortium, effectively making eROSITA a "half-sky" survey for most applications. The only publicly accessible all-sky "data product" as of 2026 is a single press-release image published in June 2020 jointly by both consortia to celebrate the completion of the first all-sky survey (eRASS1). Here I present the first all-sky eROSITA catalogue based on this image, containing around 63 thousand sources with an estimated completeness of about 50% above $3\times10^{-13}$ erg cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ in the 0.2-2.3 keV band and a positional accuracy of $\sim$1 arcmin, validated against the full eRASS1 catalogue for half the sky and against several external catalogues. The catalogue is thus comparable with 2RXS, the deepest truly all-sky survey generally available, and gives a first glimpse of the eastern Galactic hemisphere with eROSITA. In this hemisphere, about 11000 detected sources have no counterpart in ROSAT or other public X-ray catalogues and are expected to be genuine new X-ray sources. Besides the catalogue, I release calibrated HEALPix maps to facilitate studies of large-scale extended emission, such as the eROSITA bubbles, or of Galactic absorption that require full sky coverage (https://zenodo.org/records/23640281), as well as the complete analysis pipeline to make the results fully reproducible (https://github.com/doroshv/eropngcat).
