Bounding single-copy information causality violations

Abstract

Information causality is a physical principle that constrains bipartite post-quantum nonlocal correlations from information-theoretic assumptions. A direct characterization of the correlations satisfying it, however, remains difficult because the defining entropic condition must hold for all admissible protocols in the corresponding task. Here, we formulate the single-copy information causality problem as an optimization over all protocol parameters and simplify it by proving a deterministic reduction. We then show that generic adaptive multi-copy protocols can be represented as single-copy protocols applied to an effective behavior obtained by local wirings. As a consequence, for families of correlations closed under wirings, excluding single-copy violations suffices to exclude all finite-copy adaptive-protocol violations. We formulate the resulting membership and set-inclusion problems as optimization problems and discuss possible semidefinite programming relaxations. As an application, we study expansions of the information causality functional around zero-capacity channels, generalizing a method recently employed by Gachechiladze and Miklin to derive the Tsirelson--Landau--Masanes boundary from information causality. For expansions centered on channels whose output distribution has full support, imposing the second-order constraints for all single-copy protocols characterizes exactly the set of macroscopic locality in the CHSH scenario. Expanding instead around appropriate constant-output channels with perturbations that change the channel support, we show that every single-copy IC violation can be witnessed already at first order with a channel of arbitrarily small capacity.

Succession of Ising criticality and its threshold in critical quantum Ising model subject to $X+ZZ$ decoherence

We investigate a mixed state quantum criticality in the Ising model under $X+ZZ$ decoherence. In the doubled Hilbert space formalism, the decohered state resides on the self-dual critical line of the quantum Ashkin-Teller (qAT) model, as a result of the specific choice of the decoherence channel. On the other hand, since the mixed state under $X+ZZ$ decoherence satisfies the Kramers-Wannier self-duality in a weak sense, the Ising criticality of the pure state can be partially preserved in the mixed system. By making use of the combination of the doubled Hilbert space formalism and matrix product states, a numerical study is carried out. We numerically find that, up to moderate decoherence strength, the behavior of the mixed states on the critical line is consistent with Ising-like scaling within the accessible system sizes, with the effective central charge and critical exponents close to the Ising-CFT values $c=1/2$, $η=1/4$, and $η_X=2$. Our results of the central charge and critical exponents contradict the ones in the $c=1$ orbifold boson CFT describing the critical state of the qAT model. In addition, we also numerically observe the flow of the central charge up to strong decoherence. The strong decoherence washes out the remnant Ising criticality and induces strong-to-weak spontaneous symmetry breaking.

Optimal phase estimation in the presence of correlated dephasing

We investigate optimal metrological protocols for phase estimation in the presence of correlated dephasing noise, including spin-squeezed state sensing strategies as well as parallel and adaptive protocols optimized using tensor-network-based numerical methods. The results are benchmarked against fundamental bounds obtained either via the latest quantum comb extension method or an optimized classical simulation method. We find that the spin-squeezed states offer practically optimal performance in the regime where phase fluctuations are positively correlated but can be outperformed by tensor-network-optimized strategies for negatively correlated fluctuations.

MERA: A Mid-Circuit-Measurement Error-Aware Compilation Framework for Quantum Circuits

Mid-circuit measurement (MCM) enables qubit reuse and dynamic control in quantum processors, underpinning resource-efficient algorithms and quantum error correction. However, MCM introduces non-negligible errors, including measurement-induced crosstalk, idling-qubit decoherence, and reset infidelity. Additionally, MCM error rates vary across qubits within the same processor, with some exhibiting substantially higher errors. Existing compilers, including Qiskit-compiler and QR-Map, ignore MCM error variations, leading to fidelity loss in circuits with frequent MCM operations. In this paper, we present MERA, an MCM-error-aware quantum compilation framework that integrates MCM error modeling into the layout, routing, and scheduling stages. We first use the lightweight profiling method to capture a per-qubit MCM error distribution that remains stable for over 24 hours. The distribution guides MERA in applying MCM-error-aware layout and routing, while MERA further incorporates context-aware dynamic decoupling to improve fidelity. In evaluation, MERA delivers 24.94% -- 80.48% average fidelity gains over the Qiskit-compiler (optimization level 3) across different groups in selected benchmarks without additional SWAP overhead. It also boosts the fidelity of QR-Map-generated circuits by 29.26% on average (up to 122.58%), demonstrating its effectiveness for circuits with frequent MCM operations.
