Restricted isometries in finite-dimensional $\ell^p$-spaces

Abstract

For $d,n\in\mathbb{Z}_{\geq1}$ and $p\in[1,\infty)\setminus\{2\}$, we characterize all linear maps $s\colon\ell_d^p\to\ell_n^p$ for which there is $E\subseteq X_d$ such that $\|s(ξ)\|_p=\|ξ|_E\|_p$ for every $ξ\in\ell_d^p$. We call these maps \emph{restricted isometries}. Our Lamperti-type theorem gives a unique description of each such operator using a set transformation, a positive amplitude function, and a unimodular phase function. In particular, it includes noninjective and nonsurjective operators, even when the dimensions differ. We further characterize restricted isometries between finite $\ell^p$-spaces with arbitrary positive atomic weights. Applications include formulas counting set transformations and uniform restricted isometries, as well as a geometric description of all restricted isometries with fixed column supports.

Variational principles and aplications to symmetric PDEs

In this paper, we explore various equivalences of Ekeland's variational principle within the framework of group-invariant mappings. We introduce and analyze several key theorems, including the Drop theorem, the Petal theorem, Caristi-Kirk fxed-point theorem, and Takahashi's theorem, all of them within this context. Moreover, we extend the classical Drop theorem and Petal theorem to a more generalized setting. We also demonstrate the practical signifcance of these findings through numerous applications to diverse areas of mathematics. In particular, in the context of partial differential equations, we explore their implications on the solution of the Plateau problem, and in control theory. We also extend the classical Pontyargin maximum principle.

Recent perspectives on the Invariant Subspace Problem

We review recent work connected with the invariant subspace problem for operators, in particular new developments in the last 15 years. In particular, we include discussions of almost-invariant subspaces, universal operators, specific classes of operators and new results in the framework of Banach spaces.

A solution to a conjecture on the norm of the Copson operator minus the Identity for monotone sequences

We investigate the operator distance between the Identity and the Copson operator on the cone of nonnegative, nonincreasing sequences within the Lebesgue sequence spaces $\ell^p(\mathbb{N})$. By proving the exact value of this distance, we confirm a conjecture originally formulated by A. Ben Said, S. Boza, and J. Soria in ``The norm of Hardy-type oscillation operators in the discrete and continuous settings'' (\emph{Analysis and Applications}, 2025).
