Tuning between collective dynamics and scrambling through initial-state symmetry alignment in long-range spin models

Abstract

Long-range interactions in many-body quantum systems give rise to a wide range of dynamical phenomena, from collective dynamics well described by integrable mean-field models with symmetric all-to-all couplings, to fast scrambling of quantum information from disordered long-range interactions. Here, we investigate scenarios in which both regimes emerge within a single deterministic, translation-invariant XY spin model with long-range couplings. We consider a sparse powers-of-two (PWR2) graph, where each spin interacts with a logarithmic number of neighbors, and a power-law-decaying model. By altering the initial state via local perturbations on a completely symmetric state, we show that the dynamics changes from collective to scrambling as witnessed by bipartite and multipartite entanglement measures. We characterize this collective-to-scrambling crossover using Lyapunov exponents in the semiclassical regime, and show that the spectral properties of the coupling graph adjacency matrix provide a very efficient tool to predict the onset of fast scrambling. Our results offer a unified framework for controlling the switch between collective and scrambling dynamics in a setup accessible in experiments with neutral atoms in cavities or in tweezer arrays.

Quantum entanglement and contextuality with complexifications of $E_8$ root system

The Witting configuration with 40 complex rays was suggested as a possible reformulation of Penrose model with two spin-3/2 systems based on geometry of dodecahedron and used for analysis of nonlocality and contextuality in quantum mechanics. Yet another configuration with 120 quantum states is considered in presented work. Despite of different number of states both configurations can be derived from complexification of 240 minimal vectors of 8D real lattice corresponding to root system of Lie algebra $E_8$. An analysis of properties of suggested configuration of quantum states is provided using many analogies with properties of Witting configuration.

Metric Learning with Quantum Feature Spaces

The $2^N$ dimensions of Hilbert space give quantum metric learning exponentially many mutually orthogonal states with which to separate classes, but the same exponential dimension also degrades its optimization landscape and the tractability of evaluating its metric. By letting a classical network predict all gate parameters of a fixed ansatz, we isolate the reachable state manifold and its fidelity metric. We prove that this separability is already present on the unentangled manifold $\mathbb{M}_{\text{unentangled}} = (\mathbb{CP}^1)^N$, which saturates the $2^N$ maximal orthogonal capacity needed for classification, while entanglement adds states only at intermediate separations, which are costly to resolve under finite sampling. The same size carries costs. Global fidelity causes exponential gradient collapse across both unentangled ($Θ(c^{-N})$) and entangled ($Θ(4^{-N})$) manifolds; as fidelities concentrate, the fidelity signal-to-noise ratio at a fixed shot budget also decays exponentially in $N$; and because $\mathbb{M}_{\text{unentangled}}$ already holds $2^N$ orthogonal states, expressive, unconstrained encoders under contrastive losses reach trivial minima by \emph{geometric shattering} even without entanglement. We introduce Quantum Projective Metric Learning (QPMeL), an exact $O(N)$ closed-form kernel on $\mathbb{M}_{\text{unentangled}}$ that circumvents circuit simulation. QPMeL resolves gradient collapse via a curriculum annealing from a $1$-local observable regime (restoring $Θ(1/N^2)$ polynomial variance) to the global product kernel. Empirically, QPMeL as a complete design exceeds eight and matches two of 11 published quantum few-shot designs.

Quantum Mechanics as a Reversible Diffusion Theory

This paper proposes an interpretation of quantum mechanics, relying on the time-symmetric stochastic dynamics of quantum particles and on non-classical probability theory. Our main purpose is to demonstrate that the wave function and its complex conjugate can be interpreted as complex probability distributions in two complex diffusion equations related to non-real forward and backward in time stochastic motions respectively. We say non-real because Schroedinger forward and backward diffusions describe both reversible (real trajectories) and irreversible trajectories (non-real trajectories). The reversible trajectories are the only real trajectories and are given by the intersection of those forward and backward processes. It turns out that if we translate this intersection using set-theoretic language, we are led to a reversible diffusion described by Born rule probabilities. This proposal is useful also for explaining more about the role of complex numbers in quantum mechanics that produces this so-called "wave-like" nature of quantum reality. Our perspective also challenges the notion of physical superposition and aims at a derivation of superposition principle not based on the linearity of Schroedinger's equation but relying on pure probability theory. Moreover, it is suggested that, embracing the idea of stochastic processes in quantum theory, explains the reasons for the appearance of classical behavior in large objects, in contrast to the quantum behavior of small ones. In other words, we claim that a combination of a probabilistic and no-ontic view (neither epistemic though) of the wave function with a stochastic hidden-variables approach, may provide some insight into the quantum physical reality and potentially establish the groundwork for a novel interpretation of quantum mechanics.
