Hyperbolic comparison and rigidity for the hyperspherical radius

Abstract

We prove Gromov's hyperbolic hyperspherical radius comparison and rigidity conjectures in all dimensions $n\ge3$, without the spin assumption. Let $(X^n, g)$ be a smooth, oriented, connected, compact Riemannian manifold with nonempty smooth connected boundary $S$. If ${\rm Sc}_g\ge -n(n-1)$ and $H_S\ge (n-1)\coth R$ for some $R>0$, then ${\rm Rad}(S,g_S)\le\sinh R$, with equality if and only if $(X^n,g)$ is isometric to the closed hyperbolic geodesic ball of radius $R$. Under the same curvature bounds, every smooth $1$-Lipschitz map of nonzero degree from $S$ to the boundary of the hyperbolic geodesic ball of radius $R$ extends to an isometry of the fillings. Here, $g_S$ is the induced boundary metric, $H_S$ is the mean curvature of $S$ with respect to the outward unit normal, and ${\rm Rad}(S,g_S)$ denotes the hyperspherical radius.

Spectral and Schrödinger estimates restricted to submanifolds

Let $M$ be a complete Riemannian manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature and smooth bounded geometry. We prove logarithmic spectral projection estimates restricted to uniformly embedded submanifolds. On surfaces with pinched negative curvature, we also prove frequency-independent $L^2\to L^3$ Schrödinger restriction estimates on compact geodesic segments for times $cλ^{-1}\logλ$. If such a surface is even asymptotically hyperbolic, the $L^2\to L^q$ spectral estimates on complete nontrapped geodesics, for $q>2$, gain the square root of the window width. The high-frequency Schrödinger estimate holds for all times on these surfaces, both on compact segments and on complete nontrapped geodesics. Under a regularity assumption at the spectral threshold, the all-time estimate holds on the absolutely continuous spectral subspace.

Properties of Holomorphic $p$-Contact Manifolds

We continue the study of compact holomorphic $p$-contact manifolds $X$ that we introduced recently by expanding the discussion to include non-Kähler hyperbolicity issues and a differential calculus based on what we call the Lie derivative with respect to a $(0,\,q)$-form with values in the holomorphic tangent bundle of $X$. We also propose the notion of $p$-contact deformations for which we prove a Bogomolov-Tian-Todorov-type unobstructedness theorem to order two. This kind of small deformations of the complex structure is related to the essential horizontal deformations that we introduced in our previous work and forms part of a wider on-going project aimed at developing a non-Kähler mirror symmetry theory that was first tested on the Iwasawa manifold and subsequently on Calabi-Yau page-$1$-$\partial\bar\partial$-manifolds.
