Small Viscosity Limit of Navier-Stokes Equations in A Quarter Plane with Navier Slip Conditions

Abstract

We study the vanishing-viscosity limit of Leray solutions to the two-dimensional incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in a quarter plane with Navier slip boundary conditions on both edges for a class of compatible well-prepared initial data. By multi-scale analysis, we deduce that a boundary layer of order $O(\sqrtε)$ arises near each edge of the corner and is described by a linearized Prandtl equation, and near the corner, their overlap and nonlinear interaction are captured by a two-dimensional corner profile. Although this profile occurs at order $O(\sqrtε)$, it is governed, in the fast variables, by a nonlinear initial-boundary value problem of Navier--Stokes type. The well-posedness and Sobolev regularity of the outer flow problems, together with the well-posedness and weighted estimates of the boundary-layer and corner-layer problems are obtained on a common time interval $[0,T]$ independent of $ε$. To ensure the required regularity of the outer Euler flow in the critical right-angle domain, it is assumed that the initial vorticity of the outer leading order flow vanishes in a neighborhood of the corner. We then rigorously justify the resulting composite expansion in the small viscosity limit. More precisely, after retaining the leading outer flow, the two weak boundary layers, the nonlinear corner layer, and the order-$ε$ outer correction, the error between the exact solution and this truncated expansion is $O(ε^{5/4})$ in $L^\infty(0,T;L^2(\Q))$ and $O(ε^{3/4})$ in $L^2(0,T;H^1(\Q))$.

On the dispersive estimates for the discrete Schrödinger equation on a honeycomb lattice

The discrete Schrödinger equation on a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice is a fundamental tight-binding approximation model that describes the propagation of waves on graphene. For free evolution, we first show that the degenerate frequencies of the dispersion relation are completely characterized by three symmetric periodic curves (Theorem 2.1), and that the three curves meet at Dirac points where conical singularities appear (see Figure 2.1). Based on this observation, we prove the $L^1\to L^\infty$ dispersion estimates for the linear flow depending on the frequency localization (Theorem 2.3). Collecting all, we obtain the dispersion estimate with $O(|t|^{-2/3})$ decay as well as Strichartz estimates. As an application, we prove small data scattering for a nonlinear model (Theorem 2.10). The proof of the key dispersion estimates is based on the associated oscillatory integral estimates with degenerate phases and conical singularities at Dirac points. Our proof is direct and uses only elementary methods.

Upper bound on heat kernels of finite particle systems of Keller-Segel type

We obtain an upper bound on the heat kernel of the finite particle approximation of the Keller-Segel model of chemotaxis. The proof exploits a connection with certain non-local operators. We also obtain upper heat kernel bounds for related systems of interacting Brownian and stable particles that exhibit similar local blow-up effects.
