Finite-size spin fluctuations and fixed-index sweeps in a ferromagnetic spinor condensate

Abstract

We find a dip in the optimized rotation quantum Fisher information of a zero-magnetization ferromagnetic spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate near the excited-state quantum phase transition. Its displacement from $ε_c=-q$ decreases on an inverse-size scale. At $q=0.6,0.8,1.0,1.2$, the dip value of $F_{\max}$ equals $2\langle S^2\rangle$ for $N$ up to $3840$, linking it to total-spin fluctuations. A semiclassical orbit average normalized by the classical density of states describes the dip over $N=120$--$3840$ with maximum relative residual below $0.028$; a small power law fits comparably. Inserting the measured energy offsets directly into the semiclassical formula leaves residuals of $17$--$30\%$, so $κ$ acts as an effective cutoff. Among retained states, spin-nematic squeezing occurs at the spectral edges. Separately, fixed-index excited-state sweeps have half-excitation times between $11.2$ and $13.1$ times their ground-state counterparts, with local size exponents increasing across the four sizes.

Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory for one-dimensional attractive Fermi gases

The one-dimensional (1D) Yang-Gaudin model--an integrable $δ$-function interacting Fermi gas, serves as a paradigm in quantum many-body physics, encompassing phenomena from spin-charge separation to the Luther-Emery liquid. However, a consistent description of the Luther-Emery liquid and the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO)-like pairing states in the 1D attractive Fermi gas remains elusive. In this work, we develop a universal Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) theory to describe the FFLO state both for the case of weak and strong binding between fermions of opposite spins. We rigorously derive a low-energy effective Hamiltonian using bosonization, revealing the emergence of a two-component TLL: one exhibiting spin-charge coupling in the weak binding regime, and another featuring charge-charge separation in the strong binding regime. For the weak binding regime, we further derive renormalization-group equations for the sine-Gordon term in the spin sector and show that this term undergoes a relevant-irrelevant phase transition driven by the magnetic field. We further analyze the dynamical correlation functions of the FFLO pairing state based on the effective Hamiltonian we constructed. Finally, we discuss experiments using ultracold atoms to elucidate the Luther-Emery liquid behavior and the subtle phenomena of spin-charge coupling and charge-charge separation.

Tunable state-dependent interactions in collisionally stable mixtures of polar molecules

We propose encoding a pseudo-spin-$1/2$ system in the ground ($v=0$) and first excited ($v=1$) vibrational states of polar molecules. Double microwave shielding simultaneously shields molecules in both states, suppressing two-body losses by orders of magnitude while strictly avoiding three-body recombination. The microwave dressing is state-dependent and results in highly tunable, long-range dipolar Ising exchange ($J_z$), density-density ($V$), and spin-density ($W$) interactions. These interaction length scales readily exceed the typical interparticle spacing, pushing the molecules deep into the strongly interacting regime. In bulk gases, this enables the exploration of itinerant quantum magnetism and quantum droplets with novel anisotropic spin textures; in optical lattices, it naturally realizes extended Hubbard and $t$-$J_z$ models, opening new directions in quantum simulation.

Boundary-induced geometrical frustration in a square Rydberg-atom lattice

We study geometric defects in square-lattice Rydberg-atom arrays induced by lattice-size parity in the striated density-wave phase. While odd-sized lattices select a single striated domain, even-sized lattices seed incompatible domains at the four corners, resulting in a π/2-rotation invariant state with a geometrical defect emanating from the lattice center. At larger detunings, we instead identify a π-rotation-invariant state with two domains nucleated by opposite corners and separated by a one-dimensional diagonal defect. We probe the state-preparation protocol on the Aquila atomic quantum processor and benchmark it with equilibrium and real-time dynamics tensor-network simulations. Our results assess the role of boundaries and lattice size in determining the global ordering in programmable quantum matter.
