Solid-angle formulas for simplicial cones and random shifted sections of polytopes

Abstract

We consider simplicial cones $C = \operatorname{pos}(v_1, \ldots, v_n) \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$ whose generators have a Gram matrix of the form $(\langle v_i, v_j \rangle)_{i,j=1}^n = \operatorname{Id}_n+\sum_{j=1}^p λ_j u_j u_j^T$, where $p\in \{0,\ldots, n\}$, $λ_1, \ldots, λ_p > -1$ and $u_1,\ldots, u_p \in \mathbb{R}^n$ are orthogonal unit vectors. We derive an explicit $p$-dimensional integral formula for the solid angle of $C$ involving the analytic continuation of the standard normal distribution function. As an application, explicit formulas are obtained for the expected face numbers of sections of acute orthocentric simplices and crosspolytopes with uniformly distributed linear subspaces translated by a fixed vector. The translation vector is assumed to lie outside the affine hulls of all proper faces of the polytope. All solid angles entering these formulas are expressed as integrals of dimension at most two. This application includes regular simplices and regular crosspolytopes as special cases.

Dimension formula for harmonic measures in invariant random graphs on Gromov hyperbolic spaces

For random walks in various group-invariant random graphs on Gromov hyperbolic spaces, we show that the associated harmonic measures are exact dimensional and their Hausdorff dimensions are equal to the entropy over the speed, Our method is inspired by cluster relations introduced by Gaboriau and applies to percolation clusters on hyperbolic groups and Poisson--Voronoi tessellations on rank one Riemannian symmetric spaces.

Well-posedness of kinetic McKean-Vlasov equations

We consider the McKean-Vlasov equation $dX_t = b(t, X_t, [X_t])dt + σ(t, X_t, [X_t])dW_t$ where $[X_t]$ is the law of $X_t$. We specifically consider the kinetic case, where the equation is degenerate because the dimension of the Brownian motion $W$ is strictly smaller than that of the solution $X$, as commonly required in classical models of collisional kinetic theory. Assuming Hölder continuous coefficients and a weak Hörmander condition, we prove the well-posedness of the equation. This result advances the existing literature by filling a crucial gap: it addresses the previously unexplored case where the diffusion coefficient $σ$ depends on the law $[X_t]$. Notably, our proof employs a simplified and direct argument eliminating the need for PDEs involving derivatives with respect to the measure argument. A critical ingredient is the sub-Riemannian metric structure induced by the corresponding Fokker-Planck operator.

Ranges of Extremal Processes and Heavy-Tailed Random Walks in Spaces of Growing Dimension

We consider extremal processes and random walks generated by heavy-tailed random vectors taking values in ${\mathbb R}^d$ endowed with the $\ell_p$ metric. We establish limit theorems for the ranges of associated paths in the triangular array setting when both the number of steps $n$ and the dimension $d$ grow to infinity. It is shown that it is possible to transform the paths by suitable linear isometric embeddings of $\ell_p$ such that the transformed paths converge in distribution and to identify the limit in terms of a Poisson cluster process. These results also imply the convergence in distribution of the paths viewed as finite metric spaces in the space of metric spaces equipped with the Gromov--Hausdorff metric. Furthermore, we prove convergence in distribution of the transformed paths in the space of counting measures on the line equipped with a Hausdorff metric induced by a suitable $\ell_p$-type distance between counting measures.
