This is SParTA: A modular, efficient and scalable transformer architecture for jet-tagging

Abstract

We present the Sparse Particle-interaction Transformer Architecture (SParTA), a modular, scalable, and efficient transformer for jet tagging at high-energy colliders. Exploiting the steeply falling transverse-momentum ($p_T$) spectrum of jet constituents, SParTA factorizes constituent processing into two topological regimes. Ordered by descending $p_T$, only the $N$ hardest constituents (the hard core) participate in quadratic $O(N^2)$ differential interaction attention driven by pairwise physical and learned relational features. The remaining soft constituents are integrated via linear $O(lN)$ cross-attention to the hard core, preserving soft-radiation and color-flow information while avoiding the $O(l^2)$ memory bottleneck of full self-attention over all $l$ constituents. Pairwise interaction features are computed dynamically in-network from constituent four-momenta and conditioned on global jet-level substructure observables. On the quark-gluon tagging benchmark, a 300K-parameter SParTA model achieves an AUC of 92.02% and accuracy of 85.06%, matching the 2.14M-parameter Particle Transformer (ParT) at one-seventh the parameter count and outperforming IAFormer by 21% in background rejection at 30% signal efficiency. On the boosted top-tagging benchmark, SParTA outperforms ParT and ParticleNet with 511K parameters, while we analyze the architectural trade-offs relative to fully dense multi-layer interaction networks.

Electromagnetic form factors of singly charmed baryons $Σ_c$ and $Λ_c$ in a covariant quark-diquark model

We present a systematic study of the spacelike electromagnetic form factors of the ground-state singly charmed baryons, $Σ_c$ ($Σ_c^{++},Σ_c^+,Σ_c^0$) and $Λ_c^+$, within a covariant quark-diquark model. Based on this framework, we obtain their magnetic moments as well as electric charge and magnetic moment radii. Such observables are important to understand the internal structure and the inner dynamics of these heavy baryon states. Our theoretical calculations are in qualitative agreement with available lattice QCD results of $Σ_c^{++}$ and $Σ_c^0$ baryons. We also discuss the mechanism behind the dependence of the numerical results on the charm quark and light diquark. A key finding is that the electric form factors of the singly charmed baryons fall off much more slowly with momentum transfer $Q^2$ than that of the proton, indicating a more compact electric charge distribution, which is attributed to the heavy charm quark acting as a localized core. More importantly, we observe a striking difference in the magnetic structure: while the magnetic form factors of $Σ_c$ are dominated by the light axial-vector diquark, those of $Λ_c^+$ are unexpectedly governed by the charm quark due to the vanishing contribution of the scalar diquark. This highlights the decisive role of the light-diquark spin configuration in determining the magnetic properties. Finally, using an empirical asymptotic relation connecting the spacelike and timelike regions, we predict the total cross section for $e^+e^-\toΣ_c\barΣ_c$. Our findings can be tested at existing facilities including the BESIII, Belle II and LHCb, as well as the proposed Super Tau-Charm Facility.

Partial reconstruction of the decay $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrow ϕ(K^{+}K^{-})η' (π^{+}π^{-}η)$ at a future high-luminosity Z factory

The decay $B_s^0 \to ϕ(K^+K^-)η'(π^+π^-η)$ is of particular interest in flavour physics because in the Standard Model it proceeds predominantly through the quark transition $\bar{b} \to \bar{s}s\bar{s}$. However, the reconstruction of this decay is experimentally challenging due to the presence of the neutral $η$ particle, which significantly reduces the overall reconstruction efficiency. In this study, the feasibility of using the partial reconstruction technique to reconstruct the invariant mass of the $B_s^0$ meson without explicitly detecting the $η$ particle is investigated. Monte Carlo simulated events corresponding to an FCC-ee environment are used, and the effects of detector momentum and vertex resolutions on the reconstruction performance are examined. The results show that improved vertex resolution substantially improves the global reconstructed mass response and partial-reconstruction efficiency, while improvements in momentum resolution are manifested primarily through a narrowing of the fitted central DCB component. These findings suggest that future high-luminosity $e^+e^-$ colliders such as FCC-ee could effectively exploit the partial reconstruction technique to study rare decay modes containing undetected neutral particles.

Soft factor of quasi-TMDPDFs from the soft limit of the quasi beam function

The quasi-TMDPDF in large-momentum effective theory is related to the TMDPDF through a soft factor. We show how this factor arises from the quasi beam function itself. Computing the one-loop quasi beam function and decomposing it by the method of regions, we find that the hard and collinear regions give the matching coefficient and the lightcone beam function. The soft region involves only one lightlike direction, yet, once the two hemispheres of the gluon momentum are folded onto each other, it reproduces the square root of the lightcone soft function together with the reduced soft function. The analysis leads to an operator definition of the soft factor, as the vacuum matrix element of the soft Wilson lines into which the quasi beam function turns. This definition provides the basis for an all-order analysis, and it shows that the Collins-Soper kernel is reproduced to all orders.
