MOFFieldBench: A Machine Learning Benchmark for Continuous Electronic Fields in Metal-Organic Frameworks

Abstract

Machine-learning models for metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) predominantly rely on atomic structures, whereas electron-density (ED) and electrostatic-potential (ESP) fields remain underexplored as scalable learning representations. These continuous fields encode complementary spatial and electronic information relevant to structure-property relationships, particularly pore geometry and guest-framework interactions, but costly first-principles calculations, storage requirements and the scarcity of systematically aligned datasets limit their broader use. Here we introduce MOFFieldBench, a multimodal benchmark comprising approximately 46,000 MOFs with one-to-one aligned crystallographic structures, ED fields and ESP fields. A unified workflow integrates field generation, error-controlled compression and sparse point-cloud representation, supporting field reconstruction, prediction of 13 material properties, multimodal property prediction and pairwise cross-modal retrieval. ED and ESP provide competitive representations for pore geometry, adsorption and separation properties. Multimodal fusion improves several prediction tasks relative to the best unimodal reference, supporting complementary predictive roles for atomic structures and electronic fields. Learned ED reconstruction closely approximates first-principles reference densities, while predicted-density initialization reduces self-consistent-field calculation time by 13.59\% on average in paired tests. These results support electronic fields as practical, informative learning modalities and establish MOFFieldBench as a resource for studying representation choice, multimodal learning and electronic-field-driven MOF modelling.

Crystoria: A Large-Scale Crystal Dataset Linking Thermodynamic and Dynamical Stability for Materials AI

Large-scale crystal databases have transformed materials discovery by making millions of structures and thermodynamic properties accessible to materials informatics. Yet dynamical stability remains sparsely characterized at a comparable scale because its evaluation is substantially more computationally demanding than conventional structure and energy calculations. This mismatch creates a critical gap between the rapidly expanding crystal-structure space and the physical information available for materials research and machine learning. Here we introduce Crystoria, a large-scale crystal dataset designed to bring dynamical stability to the scale of modern materials data. We construct Crystoria by systematically curating low-energy and metastable inorganic crystals, standardizing their structural identities, and combining machine-learning-accelerated structural relaxation with phonon-based dynamical screening. The resulting dataset contains 2,649,640 crystal structures, spanning 89 elements, 219 of the 230 space groups, and primitive cells containing 1-48 atoms. Among them, 1,793,353 structures (67.68%) are classified as dynamically stable, revealing substantial variation in dynamical stability across chemical and crystallographic space. By bringing dynamical stability to the scale of millions of crystal structures, Crystoria provides a physically grounded foundation for materials artificial intelligence (AI) and enables systematic exploration of the dynamical crystal landscape.

Finite-Temperature Magnetism and Longitudinal Spin Transport in Compensated Half-Metal Ferrimagnets with Near-Zero Magnetization

Fully compensated ferrimagnets, characterized by nearly vanishing magnetic moments at zero temperature, perfect spin-polarized electronic structures, and ultrafast spin dynamics, represent a highly promising materials platform for next-generation spintronic devices. By minimizing stray magnetic fields and reducing switching currents, FCFs enable a viable path toward high-speed, low-power spintronic devices. In this work, we present a systematic investigation of the electronic structure, finite-temperature magnetism, and spin-dependent transport properties of the Heusler-type fully compensated half-metallic ferrimagnet Mn3Al in magnetic tunnel junctions. We demonstrate that Mn3Al is a half-metallic FCF with 100% spin polarization and fully compensated magnetization at 0 K. Combining density functional theory with Monte Carlo simulations, we characterize its finite-temperature magnetic properties and show that Mn3Al exhibits a net magnetization below 11.6 emu/cc at 300 K, confirming the robustness of its nearly compensated ferrimagnetic order at room temperature. Furthermore, we predict that the Mn3Al/MgO/Mn3Al MTJ yields a giant tunneling magnetoresistance effect at 0 K, which remains as high as 232% at 300 K. Our results establish Mn3Al and related half-metallic FCFs as excellent candidates for magnetoresistance-based spintronic applications.

Emergent higher-order optical nonlinearity in self-assembled polar supertextures

Giant optical nonlinearities enable advanced materials control and bridge exotic light-matter phenomena to next-generation photonics. However, materials exhibiting strong higher-order optical nonlinearity beyond the second order are typically rare. Here, we report the discovery of a giant and ultrafast second-harmonic generation (SHG) in self-assembled polar skyrmions under mid-infrared excitations. The transient SHG intensity exhibits a distinctive power dependence originating from higher-order nonlinearity. More generally, we show that large higher-order nonlinearity emerges across diverse domain structures in polar superlattices. Phase-field simulations demonstrate a strong and periodic local permittivity variation within each polar texture at equilibrium, and further confirm the fast polarization oscillation in polar skyrmions with mid-infrared excitations. This intense local permittivity modulation can satisfy epsilon-near-zero conditions, unlocking dramatically enhanced nonlinear optical responses without photonic engineering. Consequently, the self-assembled polar topologies with strong inherent optical nonlinearity could establish a platform for quantum information processing and high-speed optical communications.
