Mechanical angular momentum loss at $\mathcal{O}(G^4)$ from static and radiative gravitons

Abstract

We determine the loss of mechanical angular momentum $L^μ_{\rm loss}$ of two gravitationally scattering bodies at $\mathcal{O}(G^4)$ using worldline quantum field theory (WQFT). The gravitational memory effect, a phenomenon of the early- and late-time behaviour of the gravitational field, leads to static contributions to $L^μ_{\rm loss}$. We illuminate how these arise: the linear memory contributes through so-called static correlators, while the nonlinear memory vanishes at this order due to symmetry considerations. The computation of the remaining, dynamical part resembles that of the $\mathcal{O}(G^4)$ impulse. We generate its integrand using a reformulation of the WQFT Feynman rules that conserves four-momentum at every vertex and plainly exhibits the classical loops. The three-loop integrals are reduced to master integrals, whose differential equations and boundary matching in the post-Newtonian limit we describe in some detail. In contrast to conservative effects at this order, only polylogarithms appear. While individual contributions to the dynamical part are divergent, these cancel in $L^μ_{\rm loss}$. The quadratic-in-radiation part of our result reproduces earlier results, while the complete result agrees with existing post-Newtonian results.

Brane expansions for anti-symmetric line operator index

Based on the D5-brane realization of Wilson line operators in anti-symmetric representations, we propose brane expansion formulas for $I_{N,k}$, the Schur index of ${\cal N}=4$ $U(N)$ SYM decorated by line operators in the anti-symmetric representation of rank $k$. For the large $N$ index $I_{\infty,k}$ we propose a double-sum expansion, and for finite $N$ index $I_{N,k}$ we propose a quadruple-sum expansion. Objects causing finite $k$ and finite $N$ corrections are disk D3-branes ending on the D5-brane.

Holographic free energy and integrated correlators of ${\cal N}=1^*$ theory

We consider the 2nd integrated correlators of ${\cal N}=4$, $D=4$ super Yang-Mills theory, especially those which can be associated with ${\cal N}=1^*$ mass-deformed theories. We provide an analytic derivation of the integrals at supergravity tree level, which has not been available so far. Our result agrees with the previous results from the study of BPS solutions in the dual supergravity models.

Symmetries, anomalies, and dualities of two-dimensional Non-Linear Sigma Models

We analyse the global symmetry structure of two-dimensional Non-Linear Sigma Models with Wess-Zumino term. When the target space has a compact isometry without fixed points, the theory has a pair of (group-like) global symmetries and many such theories also have non-invertible symmetries. We describe how the topology of the target space and Wess-Zumino term determine whether the group-like symmetries are continuous or discrete, and study their pure and mixed 't Hooft anomalies. We also revisit the construction of the non-invertible symmetries, which are associated with possible self-dualities under discrete gauging, and show how the global symmetry structure is left invariant by this gauging.
