Herzog Class of Codimension $3$ Licci Monomial Ideals

Abstract

Let $S$ be the polynomial ring in three variables with homogeneous maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$. Licci ideals are ideals that can be linked by a finite number of steps to a complete intersection. All licci ideals admit a rigid deformation, and two licci ideals are said to be in the same Herzog class if they have a common rigid deformation. Guerrieri-Ni-Weyman gave a parametrization for the Herzog classes of codimension $3$ licci ideals in terms of pairs of partitions associated to Schur functors. In this paper, we give an explicit formula that determines the Herzog class of a given $\mathfrak{m}$-primary licci monomial ideal.

On the Rees, Dilworth and Matsumura number

In this paper we study three numerical invariants of local rings: the Rees number, the Dilworth number, and the Matsumura number. These quantities measure, respectively, the minimal lengths of certain cyclic modules, the maximal numbers of generators of ideals, and a parameter-based analogue in higher dimension. We construct a non-exact local complete-intersection ring over $\mathbb{F}_2$, thereby providing a negative answer to a question of Matsumura on the exactness of zero-dimensional complete intersections. We also present a family of artinian Gorenstein local rings over a field of characteristic zero that are exact, making progress on a question of Watanabe. Finally, answering a further question of Matsumura, we introduce and study the Matsumura number and the class of homologically exact rings, which extend the notion of exactness beyond the one-dimensional case.

Asymptotic behavior of invariants of syzygies of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules

$(A,\mathfrak{m})$ be a complete intersection ring of codimension $c\geq 2$ and dimension $d\geq 1$. Let $M$ be a finitely generated maximal Cohen-Macaulay $A$-module and $M_i=\text{Syz}^A_{i}(M)$ be the $i$-th syzygy of $M$. Let $e^{I}_i(M)$ be the $i$-th Hilbert coefficient of $M$ with respect to an $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal $I$. In \cite{Quasipolynomial}, it is proved that the function $i\mapsto e^I_1(M)$ is of quasi-polynomial type with period $2$ and degree $\leq \text{cx}_A(M)-1$, where $\text{cx}_A(M)$ is the complexity of $M.$ We prove that for $I=\mathfrak{m}$, the associated polynomials have the same degree equal to $\text{cx}_A(M)-1$. For $\text{cx}_A(M)=2$ and $j=0,1$, we prove $$\lim_{i\to \infty}\dfrac{e^{\mathfrak{m}}_1(M_{2i+j})}{i}\geq \lim_{i\to \infty}\dfrac{e^{\mathfrak{m}}_0(M_{2i+j})}{i}-\lim_{i\to \infty}\dfrac{μ(M_{2i+j})}{i}.$$ When equality holds, we prove that the set $\{\text{reg }G_{\mathfrak{m}}(M_i)\,|\, i\geq 0\}$ is bounded, where reg $G_{\mathfrak{m}}(M_i)$ is the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $G_{\mathfrak{m}}(M_i).$

On the arithmetic rank and cohomological dimension of some residual intersections

We determine the arithmetic rank and cohomological dimension of each generic residual intersection of the ideal of submaximal Pfaffians of an alternating matrix of variables. This ideal fails to be a set-theoretic complete intersection. Our methods yield several structural results: in characteristic zero, we compute the $D$-module length of the top local cohomology module supported at this ideal and show that over the integers, it admits a $\mathbb{Q}$-vector space structure. In particular, the top local cohomology module has no integer torsion. We also establish the $F$-regularity of the generic residual intersection rings considered here. Further, for each admissible height $s$, we construct $s$-residual intersections of complete intersection ideals and height three Gorenstein ideals that are set-theoretic complete intersections in any characteristic. Finally, we pose a general question of independent interest concerning the behaviour of arithmetic rank.
