Almost-optimal bulk regularity conditions in the CLT for G$β$E

Abstract

We consider linear statistics $\sum_{k=1}^N f(x_k)$ of a Gaussian $\b$-ensemble. Following the work of \cite{LaSo22}, which was concerned only with Wigner matrices, we extend their results for general $\b$. In particular, we show that the CLT holds for any $f \in H^{1/2 + \e}$. The novel input which was not used in \cite{LaSo22} is the Helffer-Sjöstrand representation for the covariance, first appearing the random matrix context in \cite{ErYa15}, coupled with characteristic flow estimates for DBM, first appearing in \cite{Bo22}.

The half-space KPZ line ensemble and its scaling limit

For each $α\in \mathbb{R}, t\ge 1$, we show that there exists a unique $\mathbb{N}$-indexed line ensemble of random continuous curves $\mathbb{R}_{\le 0} \to \mathbb{R}$ with the following properties: (1) The top curve is distributed as the time-$t$ Cole--Hopf solution to the half-space KPZ equation with narrow wedge initial condition and Neumann boundary condition with parameter $α$. (2) The line ensemble satisfies a one-sided resampling invariance property, involving softly non-intersecting Brownian motions with an attractive potential between pairs at the boundary. We call this object the half-space KPZ line ensemble. For $α=μt^{-1/3}$ with $μ\in \mathbb{R}$ fixed (critical regime) and for $α>0$ fixed (supercritical regime), we show that the half-space KPZ line ensemble near the boundary is tight under 1:2:3 KPZ scaling as $t\to\infty$. Moreover, all subsequential limits approximate a parabola and enjoy a one-sided Brownian Gibbs property, described by non-intersecting Brownian motions with pairwise interaction at the boundary. In the supercritical case, one of the main technical contributions of this paper is the first rigorous demonstration of a structure involving pairwise pinned Brownian motions, previously conjectured in [BCD23]. Away from the boundary, we show that the half-space KPZ line ensemble converges to the (full-space) Airy line ensemble under 1:2:3 KPZ scaling as $t\to\infty$. A key ingredient in our arguments, which may be of independent interest, is a novel identity relating the full- and half-space KPZ equations, which may be valuable in deducing various geometric properties of the latter.

Seasonal Statistics of Shannon Rate in a Dynamical Poisson-Voronoi Cellular Network

In this work we consider a dynamical cellular communication network in which mobile base stations (BSs) are modeled as a homogeneous Poisson point process on $\mathbb{R}^2$. Each base station moves at a constant speed in a random direction. A typical user connects to the nearest base station and it experiences variable signal and interference powers depending on the distance of all the stations. Along the motion of the stations, the user swaps its serving station, and such an event is called a {\em handover}. We are interested in the performance evaluation of the system under some classical and tropical metrics of interest at different time of events, inducing handovers, maximal proximity of serving station, nearest interferer at closest or farthest distance with respect to the user or at any typical time epoch. The main results of the paper are closed or integral form expressions for the basic metrics of interest, in particular coverage probability and Shannon rate at these epochs. We can make an analogy with ``seasons'' based on the fluctuations of signal and interference power. Strong or mild signal or interference power correspond to different seasons of Shannon rate along the evolution of the system. We also provide a complete comparison study of the metrics at interest at these epochs. We also provide a recipe to lift our results for a 3D wireless communication model for UAVs and HAPS.

Uniform Bessel bounds for magnetization crossings in finite Ising chains

We consider a finite Ising chain in zero field and ask when the all-up configuration is as likely as zero magnetization (magnetization one for an odd number of spins). For both free and periodic ends, the crossing coupling of a long chain is half the logarithm of its length minus half the logarithm of that logarithm, up to a term that vanishes as the length grows. We compute further terms with explicit constants and, for free ends, bound the crossing at every length. The second term is missing from an earlier approximation and explains why an earlier numerical fit gives a slope below one half. To locate the crossing, we compare the known magnetization law with its Bessel approximation. The Bessel approximation is above the exact weight, and we bound its relative error for every length, coupling and magnetization. At the crossing this bound tends to zero. The central bin still has about as many domain walls as the logarithm of the length on average, so the crossing has a coupling width of order the inverse logarithm. In a fixed positive dimensionless field the last crossing comes from near the edge of the row, at a coupling of about a quarter of the logarithm of the length. For long chains it is the one-spin crossing when the field exceeds half the logarithm of two. Below that value another bin crosses later.
