On the CSIT-Limited Delay Robustness of IR-HARQ in Finite Blocklength RSMA Networks
Abstract
This letter studies the throughput and reliability of power-constrained rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) with variable-length incremental-redundancy hybrid automatic repeat request (IR-HARQ) under finite blocklength (FBL) transmission and imperfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). While perfect-CSIT feedback-delay tolerance approaches a natural ceiling as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) grows, we show imperfect CSIT imposes a strictly lower, finite ceiling set solely by CSIT quality, one that transmit power cannot overcome. We derive analytical expressions and tight approximations for common- and private-stream decoding failure probabilities, capturing FBL and CSIT uncertainty via a unified CSIT-degradation factor. Also, we show that residual interference saturates effective stream power at high SNR, limiting reliability and producing this delay-tolerance ceiling. Simulations validate the analysis and quantify the ceiling, offering design insights for delay-robust RSMA under imperfect CSIT.
