Magnon Polarization Textures and Transport in Antiferromagnets and Altermagnets

Abstract

Antiferromagnets (AFMs) host magnons that can exhibit fully circular, elliptic and linear polarizations of sublattice magnetization dynamics. We analyze theoretically different momentum-space magnon polarization textures and magnon transport in collinear AFMs and altermagnets (AMs). The sensitivity of the polarization texture to a magnon momentum direction determines two regimes of magnon polarization kinetics: The Dyakonov-Perel relaxation or its dephasing due to asynchronous Larmor precession. For an easy-axis AFM, magnetic field parallel to the N{é}el vector leads to the suppression of the magnetic dipolar interaction-induced Dyakonov-Perel relaxation, accompanied by the increase in the magnon spin-diffusion length and its counter-intuitive growth with temperature. For a perpendicular orientation, instead, relaxation of circular polarization of magnons is enhanced due to Larmor precession. Finally, extremely anisotropic relaxation of magnon polarization is predicted for AMs or AFMs having Dzyaloshinskii-Morya interaction.

Phonon-mediated spin-spin interactions

Indirect long range interactions between localized magnetic moments are in metals mediated by itinerant electrons. In insulators and semi-conductor, such interactions need to be small, if not negligible, due to the absence of mediating carriers. The existence of magnetically ordered insulators, for instance, metal-oxides, is therefore an everlasting source for proposals of various mechanisms that may support the order. Here, phonon mediated interactions between localized magnetic moments is considered as a mechanism that can provide quantifiable symmetric and anti-symmetric anisotropic spin-spin interactions. It is demonstrated that while a symmetric anisotropic interaction exists for all types of phonons, the existence of anti-symmetric anisotropic interactions requires broken inversion symmetry. The latter mechanism may explain the weak ferromagnetic order observed in chiral, e.g., CuO and CoO compounds. Furthermore, the interaction is nearly independent of the temperature at low temperature while approaches a linear growth at high. Spatially, the interactions have an oscillatory power law decay with the inter-nuclei distance.

THz Spectroscopy of Urine Vapors from Patients with Prostate Cancer and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: A Critical Review and Statistical Reanalysis

The cancer specificity of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) motivates complementary, non-invasive approaches to prostate disease assessment. Building on reported high-resolution terahertz (THz) analysis of urine-derived products, this review integrates spectroscopic evidence with a statistical reanalysis of clinical data from 24 patients with prostate cancer (PC) and 14 with histologically confirmed benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Nonparametric statistical comparison shows higher PSA levels in PC, while overlapping patient distributions and receiver-operating-characteristic analysis with bootstrap uncertainty estimation demonstrate incomplete discrimination from BPH. Fast frequency-sweep spectroscopy characterizes urine-derived volatile and thermal-decomposition products, distinguishing compounds shared between groups from candidate PC-associated assignments, including glycolaldehyde, butyronitrile, pentanenitrile and methyl isocyanate. Glycolaldehyde has been detected by urinary carbonyl profiling, while benzaldehyde and phenol have been reported in urinary volatile studies. Related aldehydes identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and glycine-associated metabolites reported in proton nuclear magnetic resonance studies provide complementary chemical and metabolic context. These correspondences support plausibility of THz findings without establishing PC specificity. Together, the dataset, statistical assessment and comparative literature synthesis support THz urine spectroscopy as a platform for molecular discovery and candidate prioritization. Standardized sample preparation, separation of native urinary constituents from processing-derived products, and validation in independent cohorts remain necessary.

Nonlinear Schrodinger Equations for Dense Bose Fluid and He4 Film at Low Temperatures

We have derived the nonlinear Schrodinger equation generalizing the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equa tion for dilute Bose gas. The derivation is based on the Hartree-Fock time-dependent mean-field theory with an arbitrary intermolecular interaction potential. It is shown that obtained nonlinear Schrodinger equation with appropriate redefinition of coefficients can be used for description of dense Bose fluid at low temperatures. We also present the Schrodinger type equation describing the superfluid component of helium in two fluid hydrodynamics. This approach leads to quantum correction for superfluid component of velocity in two fluid hydrodynamics. We also have derived the nonlinear Schrodinger equation for superfluid He4 film at low temperatures. It is shown that this Schrodinger type equation for superfluid He4 film leads to phonon-roton dispersion relation for elementary excitation at low temperatures.
