Multi-Index Recovery for Total-Degree Multivariate Vandermonde Matrices

Abstract

For multivariate polynomial bases of total degree at most n, a column of the Vandermonde matrix is identified by a multi-index of exponents. In this work, we give a direct, recursive map from the scalar column index to this multi-index, based on a prescribed ordering in which exponents of the last variable are increased at the block level and the same rule is applied recursively to the remaining variables. The map is first derived explicitly in the bivariate case, where it yields closed-form column indices for the univariate Vandermonde matrices, and is then extended recursively to arbitrary dimension by means of a binomial counting function, with a proof of correctness by induction. The procedure provides random access to any total-degree column without forming the full tensor-product matrix, and is particularly advantageous for streaming construction and matrix-free evaluation. It is basis independent and applies directly to Chebyshev--Vandermonde matrices. For the full dense matrix, nested loops over the exponent multi-indices achieve the same asymptotic cost; the gain of the present approach lies in exact indexing and the avoidance of superfluous intermediate arrays.

Riemannian Submersion whose Total Manifold admits an Almost Hyperbolic Ricci Soliton

In the present paper, we investigate geometric properties of a Riemannian submersion for which the total manifold is endowed with hyperbolic and almost hyperbolic Ricci solitons. We establish conditions under which the fibers of the submersion admit hyperbolic and almost hyperbolic Ricci solitons. Further, we derive necessary conditions for the base manifold to be an Einstein and a hyperbolic Ricci soliton. Also, we determine the scalar curvature associated with the fibers and the base manifold. Moreover, when the total space admits an almost hyperbolic Ricci soliton with a torse-forming potential vector field, we obtain conditions ensuring that the extrinsic vertical and horizontal distributions are almost generalized quasi-Einstein. We also obtain necessary conditions for the fibers and base manifold to be an Einstein and almost generalized quasi-Einstein manifold. Finally, examples are included to illustrate the existence of hyperbolic and almost hyperbolic Ricci solitons in Riemannian submersion.

Toward an exotic $S^2\times S^2$ and an exotic $\mathbb{CP}^2\#\overline{\mathbb{CP}}^2$

We study a specified Luttinger filling in the construction of Lidman and Piccirillo whose simple connectivity would yield exotic $S^2\times S^2$ and $\mathbb{CP}^2\#\overline{\mathbb{CP}}^2$. An earlier version of this manuscript claimed simple connectivity from incorrectly derived group relations; that claim is withdrawn. We derive the complete fundamental-group presentation and express the group as a one-relator quotient of an iterated HNN extension containing the genus-two surface group. The filled group is trivial exactly when the final relation kills a specified fiber commutator. We also determine its universal central extension with cyclic kernel, construct geometric realizations of it, and extend the boundary involution over the filling. The final filling problem remains unresolved.

A Note on Carmichael Numbers of the form $ N=(d+1)(3d+1)(4d+1)$

We study integers of the form \[ N=(d+1)(3d+1)(4d+1). \] Using Korselt's criterion, we prove that, provided the three factors are prime, $N$ is a Carmichael number if and only if \[ d\equiv4\pmod{12}. \] We also show that the special case $d=2^m$ produces only $1105$ under the prime-factor hypothesis.
