Arbitrary Stage Spectra for Raikov Remainders Along Quotient Towers

Abstract

Let $θ$ be an ordinal and let $(N_α)_{α\leqθ}$ be a continuous increasing tower of closed normal subgroups of a Hausdorff topological group $G$, with $N_0=\{e\}$. Write $ρG$ for the Raikov completion of $G$, and put $K_α=\overline{N_α}^{ρG}$ and $H_α=GK_α$. The successive and limit differences of the groups $H_α$ mark the first stages at which points of $ρG$ become old quotient points. For every nonzero ordinal $θ$ and every set $S\subseteq(0,θ]$, there is a Hausdorff pseudocompact Boolean group with a continuous tower of closed normal subgroups such that every member of the tower is pseudocompact and the nonempty strata occur exactly at the stages in $S$. The terminal quotient can simultaneously be chosen isomorphic to $\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z$, and for every $δ<θ$ the successive factor $N_{δ+1}/N_δ$ is compact exactly when $δ+1\notin S$. Thus a tower may have a single nonempty stratum at a limit stage even when every successive factor is compact. For a closed normal subgroup $N$ of $G$, let $\widehat q:ρG\toρ(G/N)$ extend the quotient homomorphism and put $K=\overline N^{ρG}$. Over $gN\in G/N$, the fiber in $ρG\setminus G$ is $g(K\setminus N)$, homeomorphic to $ρN\setminus N$, while for $y\in\widehat q(ρG)\setminus(G/N)$ the entire $\widehat q$-fiber lies in $ρG\setminus G$ and is homeomorphic to $ρN$. For precompact kernels this gives a canonical decomposition, and nested quotients give the two-stage identity underlying the transfinite filtration. Further results concern pseudocompact Raikov remainders and include countable Abelian examples.

On $z^\circ$-ideals and annihilator ideals

For $a\in R$, let $P_a$ denote the intersection of all minimal prime ideals of $R$ containing $a$. An ideal $I$ of a ring $R$ is called a $z^{\circ}$-ideal if $P_a\subseteq I$ for all $a\in I$. In this paper, we first investigate the class of $z^{\circ}$-ideals in non-commutative rings. We provide characterizations of $z^{\circ}$-ideals in 2-by-2 generalized triangular matrix rings, full and upper triangular matrix rings, and semiprime rings. Next, we explore new properties of the lattice $rAnn(id(R))$, the set of right annihilator ideals of $R$. We prove that $rAnn(id(R))$ forms an algebraic frame when $R$ is semiprime and a coherent frame when $R$ is a reduced ring. Furthermore, we characterize the smallest (resp., largest) right annihilator ideal containing (resp., contained in) an ideal $I$ of an $SA$-ring $R$.

On some bounds for cardinal invariants of the space of quasicontinuous functions with the topology of pointwise convergence

In this paper, we obtain some bounds for cardinal invariants such as character, pseudocharacter, tightness, {L}indelöf number, hereditary {L}indelöf number, hereditary density and spread of $Q_p(X,Y)$, the space of all quasicontinuous functions from $X$ to $Y$ equipped with the topology of pointwise convergence. We prove that the tightness, hereditary {L}indelöf number, hereditary density and spread of the space $Q_p(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})$ are equal to the cardinality of $\mathbb{R}$.

Prime Density, Kolmogorov Quotients and Homeomorphisms between Macías Spaces of Integral Domains

For an integral domain $R$ that is not a field, the Macías space $M(R)$ is the set $R^0=R\setminus\{0\}$ endowed with the topology generated by the subsets $σ_k^0=\{x\in R^0:\langle x\rangle+\langle k\rangle=R\}$ for $k\in R^0$. We show that the unit group is open in $M(R)$ precisely when $R$ is not semiprimitive, and characterize semiprimitive Dedekind domains and unique factorization domains (UFDs) by means of the density of their irreducible and prime elements, respectively. We describe the Kolmogorov quotient of $M(R)$ in terms of the maximal ideals of $R$, and reduce the homeomorphism problem to these quotients and the cardinalities of the fibers of the quotient maps. Consequently, two local domains have homeomorphic Macías spaces if and only if they have the same cardinality. We characterize the pairs of Dedekind domains with homeomorphic Macías spaces in terms of the cardinalities of their unit groups and the relations among the ideal classes of their maximal ideals; in particular, two Dedekind domains with torsion class groups, such as principal ideal domains (PIDs), have homeomorphic Macías spaces if and only if their unit groups have the same cardinality and so do their sets of maximal ideals. This characterization addresses, for countably infinite semiprimitive PIDs, the homeomorphism problem raised by Macías in 2024. Under an additional hypothesis, UFDs admit an analogous characterization in terms of comaximality with prime elements. Finally, for a class of domains of characteristic zero, we characterize additive homeomorphisms between Macías spaces in terms of isomorphisms of the underlying rings, partially answering a problem raised by Macías and Ortiz in 2024.
