Grounding Time-Series Foundation Models in Digital Twin Topology for Predictive Maintenance

Abstract

Digital twins increasingly support downstream analytical tasks that depend on time-series data, motivating interest in time-series foundation models (TSFMs) as scalable backbones. However, TSFMs are primarily pretrained for temporal continuation and often underperform on unseen tasks such as regression, and systematic empirical comparisons against state-of-the-art dedicated models in digital twin contexts remain limited. This paper makes three contributions. First, we benchmark five well-known TSFMs with frozen backbones on remaining useful life (RUL) prediction using the C-MAPSS dataset, finding that multivariate architectures substantially outperform univariate ones, particularly under varying operating conditions. This raises a deeper question: when cross-channel dependencies can be modeled through pretrained weights, target-task adaptation, and digital twin-derived representations, how much does each contribute, and are they complementary? Second, we propose a topology-informed fusion approach in which topological constraints, derived from the asset structure the digital twin stores among its information models, explicitly shape cross-attention, so that fused representations respect the physical system's local connectivity rather than relying on unconstrained all-to-all interactions. Third, we conduct an ablation study across C-MAPSS subsets of varying operational complexity that isolates the three sources and their interactions. The sources prove complementary rather than redundant, and topology-constrained attention outperforms unconstrained fusion, though by a small margin, enabling a frozen TSFM informed by digital twin representations to remain competitive or in some cases exceed state-of-the-art performance on this regression task.

Optimum and Adaptive Complex-Valued Bilinear Filters

The identification of nonlinear systems is a frequent task in digital signal processing. Such nonlinear systems may be grouped into many sub-classes, whereby numerous nonlinear real-world systems can be approximated as bilinear (BL) models. Therefore, various optimum and adaptive BL filters have been introduced in recent years. Moreover, in many applications, such as communications and radar, complex-valued (CV) BL systems in combination with CV signals may occur. Hence, in this work, we investigate the extension of real-valued (RV) BL filters to CV BL filters. First, we derive CV BL filters by applying two or four RV BL filters, and compare them with respect to their computational complexity and performance. Second, we introduce novel fully CV BL filters, such as the CV BL Wiener filter (C-BWF), the CV BL least squares (C-BLS) filter, the CV BL least mean squares (C-BLMS) filter, the CV BL normalized least mean squares (C-BNLMS) filter, and the CV BL recursive least squares (C-BRLS) filter. Finally, these filters are applied to identify CV multiple-input-single-output (MISO) systems and CV Hammerstein models.

Space-Time Adaptive Beamforming for Satellite Communications: Harnessing Doppler as New Signaling Dimensions

Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite downlinks are fundamentally limited by severe channel correlation: the line-of-sight (LoS)-dominant propagation and high orbital altitude confine users to a narrow angular region, rendering the multiuser channel matrix ill-conditioned. This paper provides a rigorous characterization of this limitation by exploiting the Vandermonde structure of the channel. Specifically, we link the minimum eigenvalue of the channel Gram matrix to user crowding through a balls-and-bins abstraction, and derive asymptotic sum rate scaling laws for both uniform linear arrays and uniform planar arrays. Our analysis reveals a sharp density threshold beyond which zero-forcing (ZF) precoding provably fails. To overcome this spatial multiplexing breakdown, we propose space-time adaptive beamforming (STAB), which exploits user-dependent residual Doppler shifts as an additional discrimination dimension. By constructing a time-extended channel in the joint space-Doppler domain, STAB restores a non-vanishing sum rate in regimes where purely spatial ZF collapses, {with a matching achievability bound.} We further develop a space-Doppler user selection (SDS) algorithm that leverages both spatial and Doppler separability for scheduling. Numerical results corroborate the analytical predictions and demonstrate that the combination of STAB and SDS achieves substantial sum rate gains over conventional methods in realistic dense LEO downlink scenarios.

Uncertainty-Aware Beamforming and Power Allocation for Uplink NOMA--ISAC

In this paper, we investigate secure uplink \ac{PD-NOMA} in an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system where a full-duplex \ac{BS} simultaneously receives uplink transmissions and transmits a sensing waveform to estimate and jam an eavesdropping target (Eve) whose location is imperfectly known. To explicitly account for sensing-derived uncertainty, we use the angle--delay submatrix of the Cramér--Rao bound as an error-covariance proxy and propagate the BS--Eve estimation errors to the user--Eve link parameters through geometry-dependent Jacobians. This approach enables tractable uncertainty-aware approximations of the sensing and information-leakage metrics. We then jointly optimize the BS receive combiners, user transmit beamformers, and sensing power to maximize a weighted communication--sensing utility subject to transmit-power constraints and a statistical leakage constraint based on uncertainty-averaged received powers. The resulting nonconvex problem is addressed through alternating optimization: the receive combiners have closed-form generalized-eigenvector updates, while the transmit beamformers and sensing power are optimized using a quadratic transform and \ac{SDR}. Numerical results show that the proposed design maintains Eve's statistical SINR below the required threshold under location uncertainty while achieving strong sensing performance and communication rate, with only a small secrecy-rate loss relative to an ideal secure design with perfect Eve-location knowledge.
