Abstract

In this paper, we introduce and investigate the notion of phi-semi contractibility for Banach algebras. We establish a complete characterization of phi-semi contractibility through the existence of specific elements satisfying particular algebraic conditions. We thoroughly examine the hereditary properties of this concept, including its behavior under closed ideals, continuous homomorphisms with dense range, and projective tensor products. Notably, we prove that the projective tensor product A tensor B is phi tensor psi-semi contractible precisely when both A and B are semi contractible with respect to their respective characters, where phi belongs to the character space of A and psi belongs to the character space of B. Furthermore, we introduce and analyze the approximate version of phi-semi contractibility, providing equivalent characterizations.

Homogeneous analytic Hilbert modules -- the case of non-transitive action

This work investigates analytic Hilbert modules $\mathcal{H}$, over the polynomial ring, consisting of holomorphic functions on a $G$-space $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}^m$ that are homogeneous under the natural action of the group $G$. In a departure from the past studies of such questions, here we don't assume transitivity of the group action. The primary finding reveals that unitary invariants such as curvature and the reproducing kernel of a homogeneous analytic Hilbert module can be deduced from their values on a fundamental set $Λ$ of the group action. Next, utilizing these techniques, we examine the analytic Hilbert modules associated with the symmetrized bidisc $\mathbb{G}_2$ and its homogeneity under the automorphism group of $\mathbb{G}_2$. It follows from one of our main theorems that none of the weighted Bergman metrics on the symmetrized bidisc is Kähler-Einstein.

$k$-Homogeneous Equiangular Tight Frames

We consider geometric and combinatorial characterizations of equiangular tight frames (ETFs), with the former concerning homogeneity of the vector and line symmetry groups and the latter the matroid structure. We introduce the concept of the bender of a frame, which is the collection of short circuits, which in turn are the dependent subsets of frame vectors of minimum size. We also show that ETFs with $k$-homogeneous line symmetry groups have benders which are $k$-designs. Paley ETFs are a known class of ETFs constructed using number theory. We determine the line and vector symmetry groups of all Paley ETFs and show that they are $2$-homogeneous. We additionally characterize all $k$-homogeneous ETFs for $k\geq 3$. Finally, we revisit David Larson's AMS Memoirs \emph{Frames, Bases, and Group Representations} coauthored with Deguang Han and \emph{Wandering Vectors for Unitary Systems and Orthogonal Wavelets} coauthored with Xingde Dai with a modern eye and focus on finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces.

Matricial ranges, dilations, and unital contractive maps

Let $J_n$ be the Jordan block of size $n$ with all eigen values zero. Arveson introduced the notion of the matricial range of an operator in his remarkable article called Subalgebras of $C^*$-algebras II (Acta Math, 128, 1972) and established that every unital positive map on the operator system generated by $J_2$ is completely positive. This describes the matricial range of $J_2$ as the set of all matrices with numerical radius at most $\frac{1}{2}$. Later, Choi and Li generalize this result of Arveson and prove that every unital positive map on the operator system generated by any $2\times 2$ matrix or any $3\times3$ matrix with a reducing subspace is completely positive. After fifty years of the above result of Arveson, the matricial range of $J_n$ for $n\geq 3$ has not been characterized. This article aims to investigate this long-standing open problem for $n=3$. We begin by establishing a structure theorem for a dilation of an operator $B$ satisfying $BB^*+B^*B=I$ and then investigate whether every $B\in\mathbb{M}_n$ satisfying $BB^*+B^*B\leq I_n$ admits a dilation $\widetilde{B}$ for which $\widetilde{B}\widetilde{B}^*+\widetilde{B}^*\widetilde{B}=I$. This study plays the central role to the development of this paper. We use this to prove that every unital contractive map on the operator system generated by $J_3$ is $2$-positive and obtain some partial results towards characterizing the matricial range of $J_3$. Next, we study unital contractive maps on operator systems generated by $4\times 4$ normal matrices, and show that this is equivalent to studying a unital contractive map on the operator system generated by $T=\text{diag}(λ,-1,i,-i)$, where $\Re{(λ)}\geq 0$. We prove that every unital contractive map on the operator system generated by $T=\text{diag}(1,-1,i,-i)$ is completely positive.
