Generalized Regular Black Holes with Tunable Cores and Geodesic Properties

Abstract

We introduce a family of static and spherically symmetric regular black-hole geometries characterized by a discrete core index $n$, a regularization scale $a$, and a dimensionless deformation parameter $η$. The construction starts from a positive, normalized effective density profile with a tunable central behavior. The lowest member contains the Bardeen geometry as a limiting case, whereas a nonzero deformation parameter generates a Reissner--Nordström-like asymptotic correction. The parameter $n$ controls the order of central depletion: the lowest member possesses a de Sitter-type core, whereas higher members approach a Minkowski-like center with vanishing density and curvature. We determine the horizon structure, extremality condition, Hawking temperature, entropy, and the horizon thermodynamic identity implied by the radial Einstein equation. Null geodesics are analyzed to obtain the photon sphere, critical impact parameter, and shadow radius, including analytic weak-deformation approximations, the exact Schwarzschild and Bardeen limits, and comparison with the leading Reissner--Nordström-like behavior. The photon-orbit angular frequency and Lyapunov exponent are then used to separate orbital and instability timescales; their ratio provides information not already contained in the shadow radius. Weak gravitational lensing and magnification are discussed through a controlled sector-isolated expansion of the asymptotic metric. We further study timelike geodesics, circular motion, the marginally bound orbit, and the innermost stable circular orbit, deriving exact implicit relations and perturbative expressions. The model provides a unified framework for investigating how a tunable regular core and an RN-like exterior deformation affect the thermodynamic and geodesic properties of regular black holes.

Effect of ultralight dark matter on compact binary mergers

The growing catalogue of gravitational wave events enables a statistical analysis of compact binary mergers, typically quantified by the binary merger rate density. This quantity can be influenced by ambient factors, following which, in this work we have investigated the impact of dark matter environment on the merger statistics. We construct a baseline astrophysical model of eccentric and quasi-circular compact binary mergers and extend it by incorporating a model of ultra light dark matter, which affects the orbital evolution of binaries through accretion and dynamical friction. Our analysis of the merged population of binary progenitors demonstrates that, compared to the baseline model, ULDM can potentially alter the merger statistics around an optimal combination of ambient density $\lesssim10^4 \textrm{GeV}/\textrm{cm}^{3}$ and eccentricity $\sim 0.5$. A comparison with the gravitational wave data from the GWTC-3 catalogue provides crucial insight into potential observational signatures of the ULDM in merger events, leading to possible constraints on the existence and density of dark matter distribution in galaxies.

Constraining superluminal Einstein-Æther gravity through gravitational memory

Every emission of radiation in gravity also includes a nonwavelike component that leaves a permanent change in proper distances of the spacetime it travels through. This phenomenon is known as gravitational displacement memory. Building up on a recently developed computation framework that harnesses Isaacson's insights on a fundamental definition of gravitational waves, we compute the leading displacement memory formula in Einstein-Aether gravity. Our analysis represents the first direct calculation of gravitational memory in a metric theory with nontrivial asymptotic vector field value. We find that an emission of scalar and vector aether waves at a propagation speed greater than the speed of tensor radiation features unprotected causal directions with a priori unbound memory build-up. Based on the results and the existing constraint of luminally propagating tensor waves, we conjecture a stringent exclusion of the superluminal parameter space of Einstein-Aether gravity.

Gravitational Memory in Generalized Proca Gravity

We investigate the gravitational memory effect in the full Generalized Proca gravity, the most general metric theory including a gravitational Proca field with derivative self-interactions that still maintains second-order equations of motion. Building on our previous works on memory in other massless and massive metric theories, we extend a unified framework for computing displacement memory and apply it to Generalized Proca gravity. We identify two non-trivial physically distinct classes of background conditions of Generalized Proca theory within the assumption of asymptotic flatness: a Lorentz-invariant but massive case, and a Lorentz-violating, massless case. The former exhibits dispersive scalar and vector modes and allows a Horndeski-like treatment of memory, while the latter resembles the asymptotic dynamics of Einstein-Æther theory including the same Lorentz-breaking effects on displacement memory. In both cases, we derive the fully gauge invariant and dynamical second order action, derive the effective stress-energy tensor and study its contribution to the memory integral. We highlight the distinction between phase and group velocity in the tensor memory formula sourced by dispersive propagating modes. Finally, we re-emphasize how observational constraints on Lorentz violation may be imposed by the structure of the memory signal.
