Quantization and process

Abstract

This article is concerned with generalizations of pseudo-differential operators in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$, $n\geq 1$. The definition of the new calculi depends only on bounded measures on the phase space $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ and each measure gives rise to a specific calculus. Quantizations of anti-Wick, Weyl, classical and Born-Jordan are particular cases of the general calculi. Classes of symbols in this framework are then studied. The Gevrey class of parameter 1/2 is a class of symbol that is common to all the general calculi, that is, a class of symbols independent on the bounded measures parametrizing the quantizations. Precise additional hypotheses on the measures are necessary in the aim to consider the larger class of symbols $L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{2n})$. This result can be applied for anti-Wick but not for Weyl quantization. Concerning Weyl pseudo-differential calculus, we recover the standard class of Sjöstrand and Gröchening. Then, we prove that probability measures of Lévy processes on the phase space $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ with diffusion larger than 1/4 are natural examples of measures satisfying the latter additional hypotheses in order to consider $L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{2n})$ symbols. This relation is derived using the Lévy-Khintchine formula. Composition laws in that general context are next investigated. In that purpose, we give a formula for the composition of two symbols in some precise class of symbols valid for all general quantizations. General calculi are relying on Wick quantization which is therefore primarily examined for some precise classes of symbols. Additional results in that context are provided, such as Mizrahi series expansions and Banach algebra isomorphisms between operators and symbol classes.

Global existence of Lagrangian solutions to the ionic Vlasov--Poisson system

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem of the ionic Vlasov--Poisson (IVP) system for a broad class of initial data. To this end, we establish well-posedness and stability estimates for the Poisson--Boltzmann equation $-ΔΦ= ρ-e^Φ$ provided $ρ\in L_+^p$ with $p>1$, whereas previous approaches required $p>\frac{d}{2}$. Building upon these results, we construct global-in-time renormalized/Lagrangian solutions to the IVP system.

A State-Space Representation of Coupled Linear Multivariate PDEs and Stability Analysis using SDP

Recently, it has been shown that stability analysis and control of coupled Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in a single spatial variable can be more conveniently performed using the Partial Integral Equation (PIE) representation. This PIE offers an equivalent, state-space representation of the PDE on the Hilbert space $L_{2}$, and is parameterized by an algebra of Partial Integral (PI) operators, allowing e.g. stability to be analyzed by solving a linear operator inequality on PI operator variables. In this paper, we show how this PIE framework for univariate PDEs can be extended inductively to multivariate PDEs on a hyper-rectangle. Specifically, assuming the boundary conditions defining the domain of the PDE to be decoupled along distinct spatial directions, we propose a readily verifiable condition for existence of a bijection between the PDE domain and $L_{2}$. We derive an explicit expression for the map defining this bijection, and use this map to construct an equivalent PIE representation for a broad class of linear multivariate PDEs. Next, we embed the parameters defining this PIE representation in a class of multivariate PI operators, and prove that this class forms a $*$-algebra---allowing PI operator inequalities for stability analysis, estimation, and control of univariate PDEs to be similarly formulated for multivariate PDEs. Finally, we show how such an operator inequality for stability analysis of multivariate PDEs can be solved with semidefinite programming, using a positive matrix parameterization of positive semidefinite multivariate PI operators. This framework for representation and stability analysis of multivariate PDEs is incorporated in the PIETOOLS software, and applied to analyze stability of 2D heat, wave, and plate equations, obtaining accurate bounds on the rate of decay.

Diffusion bounds for non-autonomous degenerate parabolic equations

We consider possibly degenerate non-autonomous parabolic equations in $L^p$ spaces for all $1\le p\le\infty$, and prove Gaussian space-time upper bounds of the Davies-Gaffney, or integrated Nash-Aronson, type on their solutions. Our bounds cover both linear and nonlinear equations.
