Weil's Theorem for Logarithmic Connections on Irreducible Nodal Curves

Abstract

We establish an analogue of André Weil's classical theorem for irreducible nodal curves. Let \(X_0\) be an irreducible projective nodal curve. We prove that an indecomposable vector bundle or torsion-free coherent sheaf \(E\) on \(X_0\) admits a holomorphic logarithmic connection \(\nabla\colon E\to E\otimesω_{X_0}\) with respect to the dualizing sheaf if and only if \(°E=0\). Moreover, when \(°E=0\), such a connection can be chosen so that the induced logarithmic connection on the normalization has scalar residues \(λ\cdot I\) at one preimage of the node and \(-λ\cdot I\) at the other, for some \(λ\in\mathbb{C}\). Explicit one-parameter families of flat connections are constructed on the irreducible rational nodal cubic curve as an illustration.

Chow quotients of ${\mathbb C}^*$-actions on convex varieties

In this paper we study the Chow quotient ${\mathcal C}X$ of a convex variety $X$ of Picard number one by the action of a one dimensional torus having no non-trivial finite isotropy. Examples of these actions can be found in the rational homogeneous framework. We prove that the subvariety of ${\mathcal C}X$ parametrizing reducible torus-invariant cycles is a simple normal crossing divisor, we compute the Nef and Mori cones of ${\mathcal C}X$, and its anticanonical divisor.

The Kodaira dimension of even-dimensional ball quotients

We prove that, up to scaling, there exist only finitely many isometry classes of Hermitian lattices over $\mathscr{O}_E$ of signature $(1,n)$ that admit ball quotients of non-general type, where $n>12$ is even and $E=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-D})$ for an odd discriminant $-D<-3$. Furthermore, we show that even-dimensional ball quotients, associated with arithmetic subgroups of $\mathrm{U}(1,n)$ defined over $E$, are always of general type if $n > 207$, or $n>12$ and $D>2557$. To establish these results, we construct a nontrivial full-level cusp form of weight $n$ on the $n$-dimensional complex ball. A key ingredient in our proof is the use of Arthur's multiplicity formula from the theory of automorphic representations.

Cohomology of compactified Jacobians for locally planar integral curves

This article surveys some recent developments on the cohomology of the compactified Jacobian associated with a locally planar integral curve. Topics discussed here include the Ngô support theorem, the perverse filtration, connections to the Hilbert schemes, and cohomological structures induced by the Arinkin-Fourier-Mukai transform.
