B-index polynomial for twisted knots

Abstract

A twisted link is a generalization of a virtual link associated with link diagrams on closed surfaces, which may be non-orientable. In this paper, we generalize the notion of the index value for twisted knots. Based on this generalization, we introduce a polynomial invariant for twisted knots, called the $\mathcal{B}$-Index polynomial. Furthermore, we construct a family of twisted knots $\{D_n\}_{n\geq 1}$ with arc shift number $n$ and determine their $\mathcal{B}$-Index polynomials explicitly in terms of $n$. These results demonstrate the effectiveness and sensitivity of the $\mathcal{B}$-Index polynomial as an invariant of twisted knots. We also study the behavior of this polynomial under mirror images and orientation reversal. Furthermore, we conclude this paper by investigating the cosmetic crossing change conjecture and establishing a condition under which a crossing does not admit cosmetic behavior.

Hyperbolic links associated to Hamiltonian subgraphs in simple $3$-polytopes

In a series of papers A.D.Mednykn and A.Yu.Vesnin introduced a construction that for a given right-angled polytope $P$ in geometry $\mathbb L^3$, $\mathbb R^3$, $\mathbb S^3$, $\mathbb L^2\times \mathbb R$, $\mathbb S^2\times \mathbb R$ and a Hamiltonian cycle, theta-subgraph or $K_4$-subgraph $Γ$ in the $1$-skeleton of $P$ builds a geometric $3$-manifold $N(P,Γ)$ with an involution $τ$ such that $N(P,Γ)/\langleτ\rangle\simeq S^3$. The brach set of the corresponding $2$-sheeted branched covering $N(P,Γ)\to S^3$ is a link $C_Γ\subset S^3$ consisting of trivially embedded circles. This construction reformulated in the language of toric topology works for such a subgraph $Γ$ in any simple $3$-polytope $P$ and gives a topological $3$-manifold $N(P,Γ)$. We give a criterion when $S^3\setminus C_Γ$ has a complete hyperbolic structure of finite volume and generalize this criterion to similar links in $3$-manifolds different from $S^3$. We prove that hyperbolic links $C_Γ$ are parametrized by nonselfcrossing Eulerian cycles, Eulerian theta-subgraphs and Eulerian $K_4$-subgraphs in hyperbolic right-angled $3$-polytopes of finite volume in $\mathbb L^3$ with $0$, $2$ or $4$ finite vertices. The complement $S^3\setminus C_Γ$ is glued of $4$, $8$ or $16$ copies of the corresponding right-angled polytope. We give a criterion when the link $C_Γ$ consists of mutually unlinked circles and prove that if such a link is nontrivial, then it contains the Borromean rings. The latter problem is motivated by the Efimov effect in quantum mechanics.

Tensors, Gaussians and the Alexander Polynomial

In this paper, we formally show that the Alexander polynomial of a knot can be computed through contractions of a Gaussian function. We build on the approach of Bar-Natan and Van der Veen to universal knot invariants using (perturbed) Gaussian functions. We endow the Weyl--Heisenberg algebra with an XC-structure. Given a knot, the universal invariant arising from the XC-algebra induces a Gaussian function whose partition function recovers the Alexander polynomial. This formalism allows for the addition of suitable perturbations to the Gaussian function, from which perturbative expansions of knot invariants can be derived.

Rigidity Theorems for the Weyl Problem of Convex Surfaces in Hyperbolic 3-Space

In this paper, we study the rigidity of noncompact convex sets in hyperbolic 3-space. We prove that any intrinsic isometry between the boundaries of two closed, noncompact convex subsets of hyperbolic 3-space of dimension at least two extends to a global isometry of the ambient space, provided that their ideal boundaries are circle-type closed sets with countably many connected components. Moreover, the same conclusion holds if the ideal boundaries consist of finitely many mutually disjoint disks together with a set of one-dimensional Hausdorff measure zero. This result generalizes a recent rigidity theorem of Luo, Luo, and Rao by allowing the ideal boundaries to contain disk components. As a direct consequence, we establish a uniqueness result concerning the Weyl problem for convex surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space, as proposed by Luo and Wu. In particular, our approach provides an alternative proof of the discrete Schwarz lemma. The proof uses Pogorelov's rigidity theorem for compact convex bodies in $\mathbb{R}^3$, the Pogorelov map, and properties of locally convex surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$.
