Hot spots in convex hyperbolic planar domains with small eigenvalues

Abstract

We prove a variant of Rauch's hot spots conjecture for hyperbolic planar domains with small Neumann or mixed Dirichlet-Neumann eigenvalues. We conclude, for instance, that on bounded convex domains in the hyperbolic plane with sufficiently large area, second Neumann Laplace eigenfunctions have no interior critical points.

Revisiting the Weak Coupling Phenomenon for Two-Dimensional Schrödinger Operators

We study the existence of negative eigenvalues for two-dimensional Schrödinger operators with real-valued potentials in the weak coupling regime. In his pioneering paper [Simon 1976] from half a century ago, Simon was the first to describe the unique negative eigenvalue emerging from the threshold of the essential spectrum of one- and two-dimensional Schrödinger operators. The aim of this paper is to extend Simon's results in two dimensions to a broader class of potentials, allowing for both stronger singularities and slower decay at infinity, at the cost of losing uniqueness of weakly coupled eigenvalues.

Solving Inverse Dirac-weighted Sturm-Liouville Problems via Cauchy problems

Building on the point interaction method developed in our previous work, this paper studies inverse eigenvalue problems for regular Sturm-Liouville problems with Dirac weights. More precisely, we explicitly reconstruct the potential of regular Sturm-Liouville problems with the single-point and two-point Dirac weights from the solutions of a class of Cauchy problems which is completely determined by the first eigenvalues of a family of perturbed problems originating from moving point interaction models in quantum mechanics. Finally, the multi-point Dirac weighted case is also discussed.

Improved sup-norm bounds for locally symmetric spaces

Let $X=G/K$ be a symmetric space of noncompact type, of dimension $n$ and rank $r$, and let $Y=Γ\backslash X$. Sarnak's local bound for an $L^2$-normalized spherical joint eigenfunction with regular tempered parameter of size $T$ is $\|ϕ\|_\infty\ll T^{(n-r)/2}$. We prove $o(T^{(n-r)/2})$ locally uniformly on every quotient. On finite-volume real hyperbolic manifolds this is uniform in the expanding cusp range $y\leq T^β$, $β<1/2$. If the injectivity radius is bounded below, we prove the global estimate $T^{(n-r)/2}(\log T)^{-r/2}$. The proof makes use of a novel kernel argument and a uniform bound on the spherical function.
