Unified Description for Reentrance and Tc Enhancement in Ferromagnetic Superconductors

Abstract

Ferromagnetic superconductors, where ferromagnetism and superconductivity coexist despite their antagonism, exhibit strikingly diverse behaviors. Depending on the interplay between the ferromagnetic exchange field and the superconducting condensate, superconductivity may vary with temperature monotonically, non-monotonically, or even reentrantly, all of which can be tuned by external magnetic fields. Here, we present a unified theoretical framework and construct comprehensive phase diagrams that capture these regimes and predict new phenomena, including doublereentrant superconductivity. We further demonstrate how magnetic fields drive systematic shifts between distinct temperature-dependent behaviors, thereby explaining recent experimental results and predicting new transitions. In addition, we show that the field-induced enhancement of superconductivity, previously observed as a slight increase in Tc, can under certain conditions become dramatic.

Electrical drive of a Josephson junction array using a cryogenic BiCMOS pulse generator

We have combined a cryogenic BiCMOS integrated circuit with a superconducting Josephson junction array. The BiCMOS circuit serves as an on-chip pulse generator delivering return-to-zero pulses with pulse frequencies of up to 15 GHz. With this microwave drive, we observe wide and flat Shapiro steps in the voltage-versus-current characteristics of the Josephson junction array. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first integration of a Josephson junction array with a cryogenic BiCMOS chip. Our results pave the way to a hybrid and fully integrated Josephson arbitrary waveform synthesizer with possible applications in quantum electronics and quantum voltage metrology.

Superconducting Triple Point in UTe$_2$: Thermodynamics and Symmetry

Three lines of second-order phase transitions between the normal phase and two distinct superconducting phases meet at a single point on the phase diagram of UTe$_2$. Although it is commonly believed otherwise, such triple points are not subject to thermodynamic constraints. The phase diagram is interpreted within Landau theory in terms of two superconducting order parameters with different gauge symmetries. Such an interpretation is unique under the assumption of spatial uniformity.

Unified Transport and Susceptibility Analysis of a Thin BSCCO Film: From Local Pairing to Global Phase Coherence

The superconducting transition in thin high-$T_c$ films can be significantly broadened by disorder, spatial inhomogeneity, and phase fluctuations. Here, we study the transition in a 30-nm-thick sputter-grown Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (BSCCO) film through electrical-transport and ac-susceptibility measurements. The resistive transition is examined using a Gaussian distribution of local $T_c$ values and the Ambegaokar--Halperin model, describing spatial variations in superconductivity and thermally activated phase dynamics, respectively. To relate the transport and magnetic responses, we extend the Choy--Stoneham susceptibility model by introducing the superconducting fraction extracted from transport and a temperature-dependent connectivity factor representing the gradual development of Josephson coupling among superconducting regions. The results identify separate temperature regimes corresponding to the onset of local superconductivity, expansion of the superconducting fraction, development of magnetic screening, and establishment of global phase coherence. The transition therefore proceeds progressively, from locally superconducting regions to a connected, phase-coherent state. This analysis provides a common framework for relating spatial inhomogeneity, dissipative phase dynamics, and magnetic screening in inhomogeneous superconducting films.
