Full-Dimensional Beamforming for Multi-User MIMO-OFDM ISAC for Low-Altitude UAV with Zero Sensing Resource Allocation

Abstract

Low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are expected to play an important role for low-altitude economy with a wide range of applications like precise agriculture, aerial delivery and surveillance. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a key technology to enable the large-scale deployment and routine usage of UAVs by providing both communication and sensing services efficiently. For UAV ISAC systems, as UAV often acts as both a communication user equipment (UE) and a sensing target, traditional ISAC systems that usually allocate dedicated TF resources for sensing are inefficient due to the severe degradation of communication spectral efficiency. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based ISAC framework for UAVs that eliminates the need for dedicated sensing TF resources, achieving zero TF sensing overhead. By designing the transmit beamforming to meet the requirements for both communication and sensing tasks, our proposed approach enables the communication TF resources to be fully reused for sensing, thereby enhancing both the communication sum rate and the sensing performance in terms of resolution, unambiguous range, and accuracy. Additionally, we introduce a low-complexity target searching beamforming algorithm and a two-stage super-resolution sensing algorithm, which ensure efficient implementation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MIMO-OFDM-ISAC framework not only improves the communication sum rate but also outperforms traditional ISAC systems in sensing performance, making it a promising solution for future ISAC systems to support low-altitude UAVs.

Joint Detection and Velocity Estimation in OFDM-ISAC Cell-Free Massive MIMO Networks

This paper develops a sensing framework for cell-free massive MIMO (CF-mMIMO) networks operating under orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based integrated sensing and communication (ISAC). The framework explicitly incorporates the 3D bistatic Doppler geometry across distributed access points (APs) into a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) detector. To address system scalability, a user-target-centric AP association approach is utilized. The 3D velocity vector of the target is estimated, and several search and optimization strategies, including coarse grid search, gradient-based refinement, and particle swarm optimization (PSO), are developed and evaluated. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed PSO-aided detector achieves the most favorable accuracy-complexity trade-off, while Doppler mismatch can cause substantial sensing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) degradation in high-mobility scenarios. Additionally, leveraging more OFDM subcarriers enhances frequency-domain diversity and yields further sensing-SNR gains.

Unification of Signal Transform Theory

We unify the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), discrete cosine transform (DCT), Walsh-Hadamard, Haar wavelet, Karhunen-Loève transform (KLT), and several others along with their continuous counterparts (Fourier transform, Fourier series, spherical harmonics, fractional Fourier transform) under one representation-theoretic principle: each is the eigenbasis of every covariance invariant under a specific finite or compact group, with columns constructed from the irreducible matrix elements of the group via the Peter-Weyl theorem. The unification rests on the Algebraic Diversity (AD) framework, which identifies the matched group of a covariance as the foundational object of second-order signal processing. The data-dependent KLT emerges as the trivial-matched-group limit; classical transforms emerge as the cyclic, dihedral, elementary Abelian, iterated wreath, and hybrid wreath cases, with composition rules for direct, wreath, and semidirect products. The dihedral case is split by action: the Hartley basis is the matched transform of the dihedral group on the $M$-cycle (symmetric circulants), while the DCT belongs to the dihedral group on the even-reflected extension, with the finite-window AR(1) covariance an approximation to that class. A polynomial-time algorithm, the DAD-CAD relaxation cast as a double-commutator generalized eigenvalue problem, discovers the matched group of any empirical covariance without expert judgment, with noise-aware variants via the commutativity residual $δ$ and algebraic coloring index $α$. The fractional Fourier transform is treated as the metaplectic $SO(2)$ case, and a structural principle relates matched group size inversely to transform resolution. Modern applications (massive-MIMO, graph neural networks, transformer attention, 3D vision, brain connectivity, single-cell genomics, quantum informatics) are sketched with their matched groups.

CLSP-REQA: A Real-Time Quality-Aware Closed-Loop Seizure Prediction Framework with Mamba-BiLSTM and Confidence-Gated Intervention

Reliable seizure prediction is a prerequisite for closed-loop neurostimulation therapy, yet existing methods rarely account for the variability in EEG signal quality encountered in real-world deployment, and the overwhelming majority adopt non-strict evaluation protocols that overestimate generalisation performance. We propose CLSP-REQA (Closed-Loop Seizure Prediction with Real-time EEG Quality Assessment), a unified framework that embeds a lightweight signal quality estimator directly within the prediction pipeline. A Real-time EEG Quality Assessment (REQA) module runs in parallel with a Mamba-BiLSTM backbone, producing a scalar quality score q in [0,1] that modulates output confidence through a tiered non-linear fusion function (ECLO). Under strict cross-patient evaluation on the CHB-MIT Scalp EEG Database (n = 23 subjects, 198 seizures), CLSP-REQA achieves an AUC-ROC of 0.7426 +- 0.0199, outperforming the unadapted cross-patient baseline of 0.69 reported by Jemal et al., using only 16 EEG channels compared to 23 in prior work, and without requiring any target-patient data or domain adaptation. On the SIENA Scalp EEG Database (n = 14 subjects, 47 seizures), CLSP-REQA achieves AUC 0.7012 +- 0.0249, substantially surpassing the best domain-adapted cross-patient result of 0.61 on the same dataset, demonstrating strong cross-dataset generalisation. The framework outputs a structured four-tuple (p, q, c, Phi_SHAP) directly compatible with closed-loop neurostimulator interfaces.
