Krylov exponents and power spectra for maximal quantum chaos: an EFT approach

Abstract

We examine the effective field theory (EFT) of maximal chaos through the lens of Krylov complexity and the Universal Operator Growth Hypothesis. We test the relationship between two measures of quantum chaos: out-of-time-ordered correlators (OTOCs) and Krylov complexity. In the EFT, a shift symmetry of the hydrodynamic modes enforces the maximal Lyapunov exponent in OTOCs, $λ_L = 2πT$, while simultaneously constraining thermal two-point autocorrelators. We solve these constraints on the autocorrelator, and calculate the Lanczos coefficients and Krylov exponents for several examples, finding both $λ_K = λ_L$ and $λ_K = λ_L/2$. This demonstrates that, within the EFT, the shift symmetry alone is insufficient to enforce maximal Krylov exponents even when the Lyapunov exponent is maximal. In particular, this result suggests a tension with the conjectured bound $λ_L \leq λ_K \leq 2πT$. Finally, we identify autocorrelator solutions whose power spectra closely resemble the so-called thermal product formula seen in holographic systems.

Holographic Krylov Complexity for Charged, Composite and Extended Probes

We study the holographic spread/Krylov complexity of operators with non-trivial internal structure and of genuinely extended operators. We first consider a massive particle in AdS$_5\times S^5$ carrying conserved $R$-charge, and show how motion in the internal space modifies the complexity growth, yielding a natural holographic realisation of symmetry-resolved Krylov complexity. We then move to probes that are effectively pointlike from the field-theory viewpoint but possess an intrinsic structure in the bulk: baryon-vertex configurations and giant gravitons. Our results indicate that, for this broad class of structured but pointlike probes, the leading large-time behaviour retains the characteristic form expected for local operators in conformal theories, while the internal structure and induced charges produce informative subleading effects. We also study a genuinely extended probe, a fundamental string falling in AdS while stretched along a spatial direction, as a model for the spread complexity of a non-local operator. In this case, although the leading behaviour still exhibits the expected growth pattern, the subleading terms and intermediate regimes differ qualitatively from those of pointlike probes. This provides concrete evidence that extended operators carry a finer notion of spread complexity, sensitive to their spatial structure. Our results broaden the class of probes for which holographic Krylov complexity can be analysed explicitly, clarify which features are universal and which depend on the nature of the operator, and open a promising route toward a sharper field-theory understanding of complexity for charged, composite and extended excitations.

Advances in kappa deformed electrodynamics

The so called $κ$-Minkowski spacetime is a prominent candidate for a quantum gravity space, and its properties have been the subject of investigation over the last thirty years. In this work, we propose classical electrodynamics equations that satisfy the dispersion relation derived from the bicrossproduct approach to the $κ$-Poincaré algebra. We explore the conservation laws, a new gauge symmetry, and the solutions for the scalar and vector potentials under the influence of the deformed parameter. The characteristics of the vacuum as a material medium are shown in terms of the refractive index and the group and phase velocities. The Green's functions associated with the wave operator in the bicrossproduct basis are calculated in both the retarded and advanced prescriptions. Finally, we discuss how the deformation scale affects the causality of the theory.

On non-relativistic integrable models and 4d SCFTs

We elaborate on the relation between the generalized Schur index of $N=2$ SCFTs in four dimensions and the non-relativistic limit of the elliptic Ruijsenaars-Schneider model. In particular we discuss explicitly how to express generalized Schur indices of theories of class $S$ in terms of elliptic Jack functions. For example, in the $A_1$ case the indices are given naturally in terms of eigenfunctions of the Lamé equation. We use the expression in terms of eigenfunctions to further check the recent observation that the generalized Schur indices of different theories in the Deligne-Cvitanović series can be mapped onto each other. This mapping implies non trivial identities on unrefined sums of eigenfunctions of non-relativistic elliptic Calogero-Moser models associated to different root systems. We claim then that the non-relativistic limits of various integrable models give rise naturally to generalized Schur-like limits of classes of $N=1$ SCFTs. As an example we discuss the relation of the Inozemtsev model, the non relativistic limit of the van Diejen model, and compactifications of the rank $Q$ E-string theory. We argue that in general the ``Schur index'' of $N=1$ $4d$ SCFTs can be understood as being related to the free fermionic limit of a non-relativistic integrable model.
